An intriguing game that doesn't quite deliver.

*This is my first review, and I feel I ought to explain how I rate things. First, I start with a little overview of the game. I then will break the game down into 4 sections: Story, Gameplay, Graphics, and Sound. I will give each of these section a score out of 5, and then I will give an overall score based on the scores of each section.*

Overview:
Last Legend is in no way ground breaking, and it is this fact that makes the game all the more intriguing. Many RPG Maker games try to be that super serious, super epic RPG that we all wish we could make, but can't. These games always fail, as they have far to lofty goals they are trying to achieve. But Last Legend doesn't try to be more than it is: a simple amateur RPG, that still has many of the problems you usually see in amateur games.

Story:
You play as a guy named Tyler, who is searching for a treasure that his father, and his grand father for that, looked for their whole lives, but never found. On this adventure, he runs into a bunch of other people who end up joining him and helping him on his quest.

The story is really nothing special, but it's not horrible either. It has a mildly interesting plot, and doesn't try to be more than it is. It isn't trying to be amazing and epic, just a good backdrop for a fun game. And this would work, if not for the mediocre gameplay.

The only really huge problem with the story is the dialog. Most of the dialog is very boring, and not written very well. It's not horrible, but not good, either.

Score: 3/5

Gameplay:
This is probably the worst part of the game. The combat lacks any kind of strategic depth. I often find myself just mashing the space bar, and hoping the battle ends soon. The high encounter rate doesn't help with this, either.

And to be honest, there just isn't a lot to really do as far as gameplay goes. You walk around, talk to people, fight random battles, and that's about it. Games should be about gameplay, but many amateur games don't do a good job of this, and Last Legend has this problem as well.

Score: 2/5

Graphics:
The graphics are passable. The whole game is made using RTP, with no extra fluff added. For the most part the game looks good, but some of the maps are iffy, such as the forest near the beginning, and many of the maps look very similar, but in no way bad.

Score: 3/5

Sound
This is the best part of Last Legend. Much of the music is written by Erave, a very talented composer. I often found myself lingering in certain areas just to listen to one of the many great songs Erave has composed for the game. The music adds a lot to the atmosphere and feel of the game, and ends up adding a lot of life to the game.

I did notice one glaring music problem, though. The battle music is taken from Final Fantasy 8, and it is glaringly out of place, especially since, as far as I can tell, every other song in the game is original. This problem alone keeps this section from getting a perfect score.

Score: 4/5

Final Thoughts:
Last Legend is a game with potential. It has a passable plot, very good music, and doesn't set too lofty of goals for itself. But problem, such as almost non-existent gameplay, really hurt the fun factor of the game.

Overall Score: 3/5

A few things.

CBLOCK composed about half of the music. The battle theme is one of his originals. So it's not from FF8.

CblockDis composed around half of the music
including the Battle Theme (Battle1), Crisis Theme (Crisis1),
Sadness Theme (Farewell), Sky Dungeon (Skydungeon),
Rallah Village (Village 3), Castle/Royal Theme (Castle 3),
Noel's Theme (Thief), ZaknNik's Theme (gag), Ice Cavern (Ice Cavern).

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "no gameplay?" There are puzzles/obstacles in every dungeon. Also, there are some minigames and sidequests. But this review has been noted and I've worked extensively to make the combat more interesting.
