The game will launch for $9.99 (USD) with plans to provide free updates if there's some demand. It includes English, Portuguese (BR), German, and Russian localizations, with more to come!
Please wishlist and consider picking up a copy June 1st if you enjoyed the previous iterations of the game. Your support will help pay artists for my other project, Starless Umbra, and help complete it at a (more) reasonable pace.
PS I mentioned having a demo up, that is still planned when I have a moment. I took the one posted her temporarily down because it was really old.
If you haven't been following me on twitter you might be surprised to learn that I'm still working on this and it is almost complete. I know I haven't posted much, but this project means a lot to me because it's the first project I've done from the ground-up. A ton of work was put into the game engine and its assets. I'd love for it to reach a wider audience, so I've submitted it to Steam Greenlight.
This does mean I'd like to sell my work. Making games as a hobby takes a lot of time and effort. With your help the ultimate goal is to fund artists for my main project, Starless Umbra, and speed up the development process tremendously.
If this sounds good to you, please consider voting on Steam Greenlight:
Heroes of Umbra is now in beta. That means the core content I had originally planned to complete is complete, with a few (okay several) bugs. From here on out I'm going to be polishing and adding some optional content, sidequests, and so on to the game. This has been a huge learning experience and I'm eager to get back to my other project.
First off, thanks a bunch for giving Heroes of Umbra a whirl this past week. I've received tons of great feedback and I've logged my fair share of bugs so all in all I am incredibly grateful. Your feedback was good and you should feel good.
If you haven't played yet or already have and just want to play more, I'm going to be hosting a small server this Saturday, May 11th to go on boss runs and farm skeletons. The exact time is up in the air, but I'm leaning towards 6PM Pacific Time based on the responses so far. You can also check play.heroesofumbra.com to see when my server is up, but I will finalize the time soon.
It's about time I release something to get some feedback on the functionality of the current build, and since I have a three-day weekend coming up, this weekend gives me a great excuse to do so.
This Saturday the 23rd, I'm going to try to do two things:
1. Release a playable tech demo. I haven't gotten feedback for many of the later changes to the game. As this has only been in development for a few months, feedback, bug reports, and so on at this stage are all extremely valuable to me.
2. Host a small server. HoU isn't designed to be an MMORPG, but instead something similar to Minecraft. Anyone can start a server, and you don't need to be online to play single-player. I've done my diligence to keep network traffic and bandwidth down to a minimum, but I'm not sure if it's at all playable over the internet.
With that being said, if you want to play this, then grab the build this Saturday. I'll be removing the download after I get enough feedback, so be sure to grab it while you can.
EDIT: Small plug, but I created a Facebook Page last week. Your "likes" make me very happy.
