Because We're Here ~Act I~ on Steam

Hello, RMN!

Remember old Eike?? The person who made those very wordy modern-history-based RM2K3 games? (What an introduction.)

Well! I'm delighted to announce that the first episode of my first commercial game has just been released on Steam! It's called Because We're Here, and it's a story-driven, horror-tinted dating sim in a WW1-inspired setting.

It's still very wordy. But they are much better words, and also arranged into much better sentences. Am I selling it??

So, if you liked my Notes On games back in the day, it would be wonderfully good of you to give it a whirl! Also, being realistic, I'd say that you will probably like this as well~

(The demo that I put up on RMN a couple of years ago is no longer available; it covered the same plot points as Act I, but it was a very very early WIP in a whole bunch of ways!)

I hope some of the very small group of people who were really into my RPG Maker games see this! Let me know what you think if you do play it! (And it'd be amazing to hopefully make some money from this and be able to pay for the resources I still need for future acts ahaha.)

Also, I browse here occasionally but obviously I don't really post, so if you are one of these people then hey, here's my twitter!

NotEC: Plus - Released!

Hi! Just a very quick blog post to say that the re-done NotEC - Notes on the Etgoesian Crisis: Plus - is released! I was gonna wait until a few days after uploading the screenshots, but I had the file right here, so thought "why not?".

To quote the last blog post (which had details of my next project in it too), here are the most prominent changes:

~~~~
"I've changed the sprites, to a style derived from heavily-edited Romancing SaGa 3 rips, I brightened the portraits so they look a bit less amateurish, I changed a lot of the character names to be more in-line with the game's early modern Dutch setting ('Pete Walsh' to 'Piet de Valk', 'James Bagworth' to 'Joost Bojinck', and so on) and I changed a lot of the in-game lore to be in-line with Because We're Here - most notably, 'Orville' became 'Wessling' and 'Mellynd' became 'Lassalle'. And of course, 'Edgos' became 'Etgoes'.
Oh, and I scrapped the Star Ocean character system. All characters are recruitable in a single playthrough now! (So ultimate weapons, and the secret support conversations that come with them, can also be attained with much less hassle.) The single exceptions are the characters you must choose between, as you'll find out when you encounter Derek and... oh, you'll see for yourself.
I also put in a way to get past the notoriously-buggy penultimate battle against Jorgund and Magarlindt. So, anyone who got stuck on that: you can finally, er, finish the game! Sorry about that."
Anyway. I thought it best to make a new post just to let you know it was out! If you never played this silly, sarcastic, weirdly historical short jRPG, give it a spin now it's draped in Romancing SaGa realness.
NotEC Remake/Re-Release - and a Visual Novel Spiritual Sequel!
Hey, NotEC subscribers! You might be interested to know that I've just announced my latest - and most professional to date - game! I present: Because We're Here ~ Mohnblume und Blauerose, a darkly comedic dating sim set in an alternate First World War.
If you could subscribe to the RMN gamepage, or even go as far as follow the Tumblr or Twitter or Like the Facebook page, I'd be eternally grateful. The aim is to take this to Kickstarter, and it'd be great to have social media going strong by that time, so every little show of support really does help a great deal.
And with this news, comes another semi-exciting development: I've given the entire NotEC a makeover, and created Notes on the Etgoesian Crisis: Plus. I'm just going through final tests now, but it ought to be released within the week. It'll look something like this:
Miscellaneous
Completionist's Corner... Complete
I've updated the gamepage, with guides to the proportionally-quite-formidable amount of optional content in the game - check out the Completionist's Corner tab! If anyone's got far enough yet to be able to disregard spoiler warnings (or thinks they're never going to play it, so reads spoilers, then realises from the spoilers that it actually looks better than they thought, then is annoyed that they've already read the spoilers (not that I've ever done this (I've done this a lot))), then head over there now and see what's available. I was thinking of putting in a guide to the questions in the final dungeon at some point in case anyone gets reeeeally stuck, but we'll see.
There's also some good hints in the 'Tourist's Guide to Edgos' tab, for if anyone's considering starting playing this, as well as an updated FAQ tab for those burning questions we all have. Anyway - if anyone's interested in any of the optional stuff, hope the guides help you out a bit!
NotEC (finally) released!
So! I've submitted Notes on the Edgosian Crisis for download, and I think it's available now. I've sat on this game for the two years since it was 99% completed, and spent the last couple of months returning to it every now and again and tuning up minor detail after minor detail. But, I think the time's come to accept that nothing will ever be perfect, and finally let it see the light of day, hah. I'm a slow worker anyway, and don't always have loads of time for gam mak: I started making this game in 2008, can you believe? (And it was originally based off a game I made at the age of 14, some years previously.) Given that very little of the writing was super-recent, it's odd... some of it isn't the kind of thing I'd really do anymore, whereas other bits are pretty much unrecognisable as by 'me from the past' - but I'm very happy with it, as a hopefully-very-polished manifestation of 'rpg maker game' dreams of years gone by. Anyway, enough waffle. Hopefully you'll enjoy playing The Inspired and Also Educational Adventures of Orson E. Rockefeller as much as I enjoyed making it!
(Also, I'm aware it's not the prettiest gamepage, but I'm not really huuugely bothered about that kind of thing - if anyone fancies helping me out, though, feel free to get in touch. Hopefully it won't hurt my chances of people actually playing it! I'm sort of assuming the people who'll like the game will probably find out about it through word of mouth, more than anything, but every little certainly helps.)
tl;dr Fans of the classic RM2K/3 games, as well as rich, historically-inspired settings, beautiful folksy soundtracks, original watercolour portraits and very silly, very bittersweet, very British humour: I made you a game!
*short nod*
Hello. There ought to be a download of this game up sometime in the very near future (possibly today). Hopefully you’ll like it, it’s been a long time in the making!
I’ve got one or two other things planned for this gamepage – I’m working on a hints & guides page (there’s a lot of optional stuff), an FAQ, a page of miscellaneous art, and a page about the original (awful) 2004-or-so verison of the game that never saw the light of day! But I won’t stick them up all now; expect them sometime after the actual game’s released.
There’s more NotSMW stuff coming at some point, in case you’re wondering about the new version (most importantly: it’s back to 2K3 (and I’m flexing my spriting muscles)).
