Here is a preview of the opening cutscene of Blood Shard. This is a far sight different from the original RMVX demo, if anyone remembers. Give it a view if you've already seen the old one, just to get a glimpse of how different the tone of the game now is.

Please note that the music used will be replaced in time, when I eventually write the pieces. These are some I found on NewGrounds, and I intend for Blood Shard to have a fully custom soundtrack. Enjoy! Also, the 'runthrough' of Arcontana is just a little taster, there aren't any events in place yet. Those are the maps you'll be in though. Think of Arcontana as an introductory segment.

Very impressed with how you created the barrage. The way the screen shook, the animation effect, and even the idea to have the blasts fly past the ship were all very cinematic and reminded me of how they would have done it back in the day, with the classic games. Very well done. I'm looking forward to getting to try this game in May.
*Wonders how you made the animated fire in the city* :3 Also, corpses usually shouldn't be able to be walked over, right? o-o
People have already touched on the good points, so I'm just gonna say that opening a game with a Nietzsche quote borders on self-parody.

To each their own I guess!

@Everyone else - thanks a bunch. Sana, the fire's just part of the parallax that's already animated. And nope dead bodies probably shouldn't be walked over, will have a wee edit of that.
The atmosphere is very dark, and it's lovable. I'm waiting eagerly for the demo!

Ayep.
I'll have to give this a more thorough watch when I get home, but holy beans this got darker! It's so cool seeing how this has evolved, broseph. Can't wait to see more :3

you can see that I should not like to see perfunctory philosophical quotes undervalued; they are by far the most humane form of padding and in the midst of modern game development it is one of our foremost virtues. if one is sufficiently rich for it, it may even be a joy to be wrong.

I thought it was a very interesting opening, my only complaint was when you kept it going into where the player moves around, it took away from the feel it gave as if this were a trailer or even the beginning of a movie. Maybe going from the city burning to another quote or some other words or just something besides fumbling around, it looked like even you didn't know where you were going.
Again though, everything besides that was epic, gives us a taste of the story and how how some of the characters feel about others (Drake in particular) and I think it was a good intro minus the ending there.

Ah, well I just put it up for a little taster of the opening scene and what Arcontana looks like, but I see your point. It wasn't really meant as a trailer of sorts. I'm gonna make a full part one trailer soon though, so I'll take that into consideration :)

@Everyone else - thank you for all the kind words. As far as progress goes, Arcontana is pretty much done now, save for a little balancing to do.
