Name: Untitled

Developer: Redd

Story: You're in purgatory. You have to get out, and it's everywhere...watching. You've found a key. It has to go to a door, right? Right? Right!?

Gameplay: Very simple. This game is 3D first person like Doom. The color scheme is simple: black walls, white floor and smiley face, red smiley that watches and promises to kill you. They're hand drawn smiley faces so they get bonus points for being creepy. You are in purgatory so this game is actually pretty deliberately repetitive: you are repeatedly not finding the door, you are repeatedly seeing white and red smiley faces everywhere, one of those red smiley faces is repeatedly chasing you, it is repeatedly hunting you down like a dog and repeatedly killing you and you are repeatedly having to start over. The game really feels like a visual representation of pure, unfiltered insanity. No, you can't kill the smiley face. All you can do is run, but that doesn't do much good. You usually don't see him until he's almost on top of you.

Graphics: There's not much to say here. The walls and ceiling are black and featureless except for the smiley faces drawn all over it and the floor is white and featureless. There's a door graphic and a hand drawn gold key. That's about it. The graphics didn't exactly take a lot of effort, but the effect is profound. You become obsessed with finding the way out.

"Getting to know you, getting to know all about you..."

Music: Every bit as varied as the game. That is to say that it's the same handful of notes over and over again.

Conclusion: This game gets under your skin. It presents itself as average, but it manages to be unforgettable. You should play this game once, but I really don't recommend playing it a second time. I mean, do you really enjoy being in purgatory? You know, this isn't the kind of game you're supposed to enjoy. It's supposed to elicit a feeling and a thought from you; not entertain.
