In No Manatees Promised you'll be playing a bunch of minigames and enjoying a lush underwater world full with life.

You want some kind of story? Too bad, because there is none. There are, however, a total of 4 mini-games which test your finger speed, memory and reactions.

Will there be Manatees? Well, you will have to play the game to see.

The game is a one-month venture to make a game for rpgmakerwebs 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest.

Considering the creator, I have no doubt this will be good.
I'll add screenshots and stuff as I go.

Interesting. Although I bet it's going to be pretty surreal. You're fairly good competition, SnowOwl. But I'm not letting you rob that $10k out of my hands ;) You can settle for the $3k second prize, right? ;)
I don't mind. I usually don't win stuff anyway ;_;

Really though this is looking really good and I can't wait to play.
I may or may not have repurposed this game-site into the new and upgraded(?) collection of mini-games I'm working on instead for the rpgmakerweb contest.

It's released. woohoo
Hey, SnowOwl, I just got through playing. Here are my thoughts:

First off--and I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by saying this--but I think you missed a real opportunity here. When I saw your initial screenshots early in the competition, I was like, shit, that's one more person who can potentially destroy my chances of winning. And then you produced this game, which seems like it's way outside your comfort zone. This was the time to showcase what you do best. My philosophy for this competition was: I'm going to make a game, and if it manages to place, that will be absolutely fantastic and perhaps lead to something resembling a career in an industry that I very much want to break into, and, if I don't place, well, at least I'll have a game that I'm proud of under my belt, which is what I've been attempting to do outside of the competition, anyway.

Anyway, I probably have no right saying that since I don't know what factors influenced the creation of this game as opposed to the creation of your initial idea, so I'll move onto the meat of the game:
-Visuals were fine, as always, and the music was fitting for the zany nature of the game.
-Most of the mini-games weren't very interesting. The frogger clone was too easy, the flying fish was glitched, I assume, and allowed you to "eat" the same fish multiple times, and the memorization game is really familiar ground. The maze game probably could have had another five seconds cut off the timer (I finished with ten seconds left), but this was the most engaging game.
-The tone of the game is really bizarre. The simplicity of the mini-games makes me think this was designed for small children, but the opening scene probably wouldn't make much sense to them, and your audience certainly consists of teens and up.
-RPG Maker's poor collision detection was problematic at times, but the games were so short that I never felt too cheated.

Overall, and, again, this is probably unfair of me to say, but I really wanted to see you make something strong in this competition. As a collection of short mini-games for small children, this works pretty well, but reaching them from this website seems unlikely.

Well I was going to write a review on this game, but I was basically going to say what Housekeeping just said. When I looked at the underwater screenshots, I thought you were making some buzzy surreal underwater exploration game, which I thought you'd be fantastic at. It could have been a departure from your usual style of games, not into the arena child-friendly minigames, but into the surreal exploration genre, without the horror modifier. But you've expressed this yourself on several occasions, that this was just an experiment to see what you could do if you didn't rest on your laurels. I think you've learned a lesson that sometimes it's good to play to your strengths, and you have very many of them. This game just doesn't utilize them that much.

Love you :)
As I've said, this game was an experiment to see if I could make something zany, instead of my usual tone. It's way out of my comfort zone, and it shows.
I don't think you're overstepping your bounds, it helps to hear what exactly went wrong, even though I had some of it already figured out.

As for why I made this instead of the initial game: I had some problems with a persistent illness the month that the game was supposed to make, combined with other factors, which just didn't make it feasible to make something that would take more than a couple of days to make. And well, thinking that you're going to win a competition with hundreds of games with something you made in a few days is if you ask me stupid. So I decided to make something purely for fun that I could end at any time I wanted, hence this little experiment.
It's always good to train your weak areas, and this was just that.
Ah, that makes sense. That was a pretty shitty time to get sick, but it's cool to see you trying to branch out from horror.

Yeah, I understand now. For some reason I'd still like to see that game coz I know you can knock that ball right out of the park :P If you're still ill, then get well soon!
Well, the music is awesome. The minigames aren't too bad, either, but you really don't want to replay them
