Brief Story Summary:
Our story begins with the primary character, Lucien, on a camping trip. He's been enjoying the nature in the forests on a world called Medea. Everything has been fine till one day he hears screaming and shouting coming from a nearby village and he decides to check it out.

Project Goals:
My goal with this project is to learn how to use RPG Maker VX Ace. I have never used anything like this before to create games, so I need to start somewhere and that is what this project is for. I was originally just going to create a 'placeholder' style game with no real purpose but the ideas kept flowing and the maps, objectives and story kept getting longer.

Project Progress:
Currently the project has reached a first demo milestone. I have squashed as many bugs as I can find myself and now I need for others to play it and give me feedback to find more bugs and design flaws. The current playtime is around 1hr 15mins to 1hr 30mins long and everything has been painstakingly crafted to create an exciting dungeon crawler experience.

Future of Project:
I am now aiming to make Tales of Medea (Prologue) into a game of approximately 10 to 12 hours gameplay, with 3 tiers of weapons and armor and expected level of end game characters to be around 30 to 50. This game is to be a prologue to a bigger and better game that I will start from scratch, which will see the world map expanded to include other places, more characters and so on.

Onward and.. onward.

So the RSW event is winding down, I still have people sporadically downloading the demo but I'm not getting any more feedback. I know how it goes though with such things and consider that no news is definitely good news.. not great news but I certainly feel that the demo release was successful in a number of ways. First of all it was successful in proving that I could get a demo released to a schedule, it also was a success in that it the game itself was received well and wasn't an abysmal failure.

So what's next? When will I be releasing more? What am I working on now?

Well, I don't think I will be releasing any more playable content for a while, probably not until the game is getting much closer to completion. When things are getting close, I'll likely be asking for people to be play testers to test the game out for me before I do a beta release and so on. In the meantime, I will definitely be releasing more gameplay footage videos and more screenshots as I go along. In fact, I should be ready to show off a small snippet of the game by the end of this week. It's only a very small section of the game but it looks pretty nifty. :)

Currently I am working on finishing all of the fortress maps that leads up to the second boss battle, however there will be a couple of mini-boss battles along the way and some puzzles to solve too. For the fortress area alone, there are at least 22 maps planned (included the throne room and the 4 dungeon maps already shown in the demo).. so it's quite a bit of work to get everything looking not only good but also consistent as well.

In addition to this, I am designing some backstory side-quests that will be optional mini-stories that the player can use to find out more about each character in the game. They will likely not involve any actual combat/battles but instead be purely story-based with a little puzzle solving included. They will be flashback mini-stories to before the game starts and will not give any experience points, treasure or gold. They will, again, be optional and clearly marked as such and additionally will have points within the mini-stories where the player can exit from the mini-story and go back to the main game.

Further to the above, I have been working with the composer of the Cinematic Soundtrack to create exclusive, custom tracks for the game and a pixel artist to create some custom enemies as well. As I release more gameplay videos and screenshots, you'll be able to catch glimpses of these custom tracks and artwork.

Anyway... onward! :)

Let me be the first downloader for your RSW release! You should consider making a page specifically for feedback. I'll post something after I get around to playing the demo.
Ok thanks!

I've created a page for feedback on the demo now :)

Ok thanks!

I've created a page for feedback on the demo now :)

May I suggest you add another menu option for your feedback at the top of the page. An example of this you can find here:

Sample page

It is easier to find it there than looking for the link in your game description ...

Also, good job including both RTP and non-RTP versions of the game.

Ahh yes, I see I missed that option :)

Thanks for the help.. this is my first RPGMaker.net page :)

No problem! Don't worry if you don't get that many downloads yet. I think everyone else participating in RSW is probably still trying to beat the deadline.

Also, you'll have to be patient with waiting to receive the feedback since there'll be quite a few releases to look at by the time all is said and done. You can probably relax for now, unless somebody reports a game break bug! :P
Hehe that's true.. I was actually 1 day early in finishing.. :)

It's my birthday today.. so I will be celebrating the rest of the day with family.. hopefully once I get back, there'll be some more downloads and maybe a little feedback too :)

Really hope there's no game breaking bugs.. I play tested it a bunch of times plus I play tested it again to check the "with RTP" pack worked on another computer too..

Happy B-day then! Eat lots of cake! I just started playing your game, so hopefully I'll have some feedback for you later today ...
No game-breaking bugs as far as I could tell; I enjoyed my time with your game. I also downloaded the one without RTP, so I can't really say if it's missing any files. I gave you some feedback on another site, but just to reiterate, try to spice up your battles a bit and make sure the player can dash in large dungeons. Other than that it's a really great first project coming along. I hope to be able to see just where the quests lead our hero in the future.
Like it so far, the maps and narrative stand out. What's the target demographic?

I don't really know what the demographic/audience would be as such. It's certainly not a horror game or a vampire game or anything like that.. I'm just throwing my own heart and soul into it, making it in the image I would like a game to be... so features such as touch-based enemy encounters rather than random encounters are being used because that's what I feel is the best style and so on.

Ah, I was just wondering about some of the dialogue, like 'bad people' so I was wondering if you had a younger audience in mind. I like enemies present on the maps aswell, did you write the script for them chasing with line of sight? That is very cool.

Some subjective criticisms I'd make are that from the bandit cave to that fortress is a pretty hefty jump in difficulty, that a lot of the game world so far is rather dark in the literal sense, and that in combat our characters miss a lot and enemies have an awful lot of hp/def.
Hey light487, yours is the first rpg game i have tried. over all i though it was good.

Interesting take on the world map
I liked the sparkly stuff instead of chests and actually making the potions, kept me exploring.
I like the use of your surroundings good forresty feel with the diversity of trees.
the big ogre at the start was cool, got me enticed, I straight away needed to know the rest of the story, i was hoping i could throw water on the fires :(

the interiors looked great, nice atmospheres and loved the lighting.

found a few bugs,
there is a passability issue with a crack in the first house above the stairs, can walk on wall tops via it.

when choosing armor at the town, it darkens out everything the others cannot use, until you highlight the leather upper. Then it says all can use although when you buy it you find you cant, although knew before as picked up a leather upper already, but tested.

found a typo, when you unlock the door in bandit cave the skelie to the right has some txt with a missing word.

when using the heroes: turn TP into MP spell/skill it gave it to the enemy :P that being said it was the fire birdy guy that becomes your ally, didnt use it again, got scared hehe

also i used the without rtp version

also there were a lot of enemies in the castle, bit of a grind, wanted to see my surroundings a bit more but there was always a baddie wanting to kill me :P

I found the LOS to be interesting on a few baddies.

I found it hard to discern the attacks the hero was using, the strong attack did not feel like it was strong due to same attack graph as normal attack :)
also i would like to suggest different speeds/frequencies of different butterflies >.<

I loved walking into the town and seeing all hell break loose, was really good, explosions, battles, flames, people flying past me.. walking in on chaos.. nicely done :)

thanks for the demo :)
I am currently downloading this at the moment. I like the concept behind it and am excited to get to play it. when you are ready for testers let me know and I will be more then willing to help out. keep up the good work.
Will be a few months at least to go.. I just finished off the fortress area and there are at least 4 major areas (maybe 5) to go. :)
After returning the pendant I am told to rest up and continue the next day. There was nowhere for me to rest, not even in the bed below. So I wandered around escaping battles as best I could until I am beaten down to 1 hp. No place to do anything. All the way back to the bottom right where I went to a dialogue and a fight but having only 1 hp it was over. The hidden sprite not only kills me as well but steals 650 each time which I didnt even know I was carrying...lucky sprite.
I have no idea what to do in the game.
Pendant?? Bed below?? Hidden sprite??

Are you sure you're playing the same game that you're leaving feedback for?
Damn....this is what I get for trying to play so many games! Luckily games arent women. Boy would this have gotten me in trouble! Now I have to find what I was complaining about and post it in the right spot so I can continue playing!
I will try and find a problem with your game! Just kidding.
Sorry for the balls-up here!

not a problem. I have plenty of time on my hands. just take your time and make the game to the specs you want it to be at.
Just finished up the demo. The battle system is well balanced. Story wise so far so good. I didn't come across any spelling or grammar errors during my play through.

Will you be releasing a second demo any time soon?
