Ulstern’s Alchemy Guild has received a secret tip on the whereabouts of Tarneus’ tomb, rumoured to hold the Elixir of Immortality.
However, Tarneus disappeared before anyone could see if this was true, and the place has remained a mystery until now.
The party will travel to the tomb, hidden deep underground, and discover the results of Tarneus' research.

Alma is a Magic Engineer and Isaac’s wife. Isaac is an alchemist, sent by the guild to explore the tomb. He asks his nephew Ellis, a young Illusionist studying at Vlad’s Magical Academy, to come along to disable the spell sealing the tomb’s entrance. Ezekiel is the priest who offered the guild the information, and is their guide to the tomb.

-Made in two weeks (two very stressful weeks x.x) for the Release Something Weekend.
-Conditional Turn Battle System (CTB)
-Four totally different character classes.
-Both humorous and serious storyline (some dark themes).
-Complete game takes around two-three hours to complete (your mileage may vary.)
-The game is part of the Arum universe. (See if you can spot all the cameos in the credits!)

May I say again this game was made in two weeks? Actually more like three days, since most of the combat, systems, eventing and writing (and hah, testing) were done in that time.
To reach the deadline we had to skip many things. Fancy effects, custom icons and character graphics (except combat sprites and title: Eagles and Scinaya did us some badass materials there!).
We will undoubtedly find minor (and hopefully not major) bugs here and there post-release. We will probably release a patch to that soon, so be gentle: that was three extremely stressful days towards the end XD
(Also I feel I must say that this entire torture was just because Fomar wanted the Full Game achievement >C)

And please, PLEASE! For the love of all that’s holy and sacred to you, give us your feedback!
This was a lot of work and it really makes us feel like it paid off when we hear your opinions on the game, and keeps us motivated to make more games.
So tell us who your favourite character was, if you liked the plot, did you defeat the secret boss…anything! We love hearing from you guys.

I am so loving this game, Ezekiel and Alma are the best characters for me. Alma is a "badass-boss" and Ezekiel has his funny side which is lovable

.I am almost done (I think) but I am stuck :/ In the maze, I have found the switch and it says something like "A sound was heard in a vast distance" or something. I have roamed the whole place but I can't find anything anymore. Am I supposed to look in the mirror? Those big doors haven't opened yet. Can you please help?

Thanks ^^

(Originally a double post)

Nvm guys, I found the way. Lol, there was one switch under the mattress (I think it was a mattress) and I hadn't turned it on xD

EDIT - I like Alma x Ezekiel even if she is Isaac's wife XD I laughed so hard when they went back before the last fight xD The fight was surprisingly easy due to Alma and Ezekiel being killers as always.

Lol at the playful romance between Ezekiel and Pudding.

Yup, definitely 10/10 for this game, had some hilarious moments and great battle system. Memorable characters, I am gonna miss them. Now I want a sequel :/
Yay another fun game completed! An enjoyable quick romp - is Blue Coral Games planning to work on any commercial games in the future?
We are currently working on a commercial game, in terms of scope it's the biggest game we've made so far.

We're making progress and will probably start releasing information about it during May.

Hope you will enjoy it when the time comes!
You did an amazing job with this game! Loved aaaall of the characters and the world you've created. I can't wait to see them again in your future game(s?), and in the meantime I'll play the ones you've already made before (which I'm also pretty excited about).

Great work!
Thanks, hope you enjoy them just as much.
I've played this a bit and so far both the battle system and the writing has been great. I haven't dived too much into character customization yet though.

Edit: I've beaten the game. Overall, it was great.

The characters are really fun and well characterized. It was also nice to have a married couple as party members. I can not think of any advice to give you here.

The skill set-up is also great. All characters had customizable roles (Isaac being the least flexible though) and contributed to the party in interesting ways. Most of their skills also remained intact after I customized their stats towards specific goals.

Combat actually required some thought and there was also a lot you could do to speed it up with some further thinking. This also happened without breaking the skill-set of the characters. I did not enter the scenario where I only had to think about damage output. I wonder if that holds up in a future playtrough though.

So, what could have been even better? I can think of one thing in particular. The enemy variety felt rather low. I looked a lot upon the situation I was facing, but I rarely paid attention to the actual enemy lineup. The only exception was when I faced one enemy with very high defense and low HP, then I would build up Overkill on the other enemy and use it to bring the former one down. Other than that, it didn't seem to matter whether the enemies were bats or skeletons or whatever. Eventually I encountered the "been there, done that" situation. I must however note that this happened much later in this game than usual.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for letting us know!
Hi,

I heard about In Search of Immortality through Humble Bundle and it came as a bonus. After installing it, I tried to play the game, but I always get the message:

Script 'OnlineAchievements' line 20:
Encoding::UndefinedConversionError occurred.

"\x93" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8

I've tried downloading straight from here, but I always get the same error and can't play. It just displays the Blue Coral Games logo, then the message above is displayed and the game crashes.

Do you know of a fix? I'm really looking forward to playing the game!

Thanks!
Odd, you're the first person who I've heard of having trouble with it, I'll send you a copy without the online achievements and hopefully that'll work for you.
Thank you, it seems to work fine!

Since I don't know much about coding and programming, I don't know what could've caused it. But I've seen those before (UTF-8), related to characters, like unicode characters and those that are not, and I think it's worth mentioning that, being from Brazil, I use a lot of different characters in my computer. For one, my username features an "ô".

I don't know what kind of information the game gets for the achievements and I know I'm probably sounding silly and dumb (not that I'm that smart lol), but I guess it's like going to doctor and tell him as much as you can--while it may not make any sense to you, he's the specialist and will probably know if any of that is important and what it actually means. =)

But thanks again for the new file!
I'm not sure if I can fix it. Line 20 is:
if File.directory?(PROFILES_PATH)

PROFILES_PATH is "#{ENV}\\RPG Maker Online\\"
which is where I store the profile so it can be accessed by any game with the script rpg maker must just not like the foreign characters.

All you'll miss out on is the achievement system.

Hope you enjoy the game.

I'm not sure I understand what you said, but maybe the normal file is failing when trying to create that path?
When I open C:\Users, I see 3 folders with different versions of my name. One of them has the normal ô, another has a in its place (with only a Big Fish folder in it) and the last one as a “ instead of the "ô" (just an empty "Microsoft\Windows" folder). Does it make any sense, or am I just saying nonsense? =)

I personally don't mind playing without achievements (as long as I don't even know which are they, I'm fine lol). But I hope this can help other players, too, I don't know.

Anyway, I've asked a friend to try the game, just to see if it's working fine. I'll tell you when he does that.

But the game will have to wait a bit, since I ended up starting another RPGM game. But thanks for all the trouble and I'll be sure to write a review someday!
Ok thanks, I'll look forward to the review!
Thanks again for all the trouble, for I was able to have some fun for a few hours!

I've already submitted the review I promised. I hope it helps you as devs and potentials players to pick it up!
What did you use for the turn gauges?
Wonderful game! How did you guys make this in such a short time? I had so much fun and the dialogue and interaction between characters was epic! Pudding was my favourite character and I want too see him and a grown up Ellis in your next games. The dialogue after the final battle had me laughting for a couple of minutes. Alma and Isaac were such a cute/twisted couple and Ezekiel was a surprise! :D The thing that bothered me were the very strong monsters and the fact that they were not visible at all. I hope all of your next releases will have visible monsters. Good luck with all of your future projects! :)
