(RPGMAKER2003 Petition) - help legalize rpgmaker2003 (400 signatures short)

Thank You Nessiah and Cherry!❤

RPGMAKER2003 now available for purchase through https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/ or Steam

The Uncanny series is a series of rpgmaker2003 games/tech demos. The purpose of which is to virtually recreate certain SNES RPGS in RPG Maker 2003 as reference material, in order to encourage fellow players and users alike to take a closer look at the SNES RPGS that we’re trying to emulate and carefully examine the various techniques these games employ.

Often, these games won’t be exact recreations and at times will take a few creativity liberties either due to technical limitations - which will be documented - or to create something entirely original out of these assets and materials.

*Currently, YS III: Wanders of the Uncanny recreates the intro found in “Ys III: wanderers of Ys” for the SNES and struggles to recreate the parallax scrolling effect found within the opening level of the game.

*There are some parts, I feel I could have improved upon and could make it much closer to the source material (Some of the dialogue moves too fast or is a bit too slow in the later scenes). But overall in its current state, I feel this demo has served it's general purpose; to show that, if nothing else, rpgmaker2003 is capable of creating very elaborate cut-scenes and faux parallex scrolling.

*There is no gameplay, just text and cut scenes
*You can enter the houses by pressing the action key
*Pressing X/ESC will quit the demo

Limitations of RM2k3

-Parallax scrolling
*SNES appears to use more than two panoramas.
*rpgmaker2003 can only use 1 panorama. To have two panorama's appear simultaneously is currently not possible in rpgmaker2003.

EDIT: I tried to by pass this by creating a picture that would act as a second panorama, (you can check this out by hitting Z on the adol icon on the far left corner of the map) but rpgmaker2003 won't allow for pictures to exceed beyond an x: -640 coordinate. If anyone knows if any of the current patches available would fix this please let me know and I'll see if I can try and correct this immediately.

UPDATE: as many of you suggested. I decided to bypass this input restriction through variables. As of this update, we now have a fully functional first area of the game, that features faux parallax scrolling. I'll continue to tinker away at this project, but the most immediate restriction remains to be the first area of Tigray Quarry:

You know, I've never played a YS game before but really want to get into it. Do I need to play any of the other previous installments before playing this? I imagine this is probably a direct port / remake just made for the RPG Maker medium.

Either way, this looks pretty sweet. I know you're probably going to get the odd comment about "Why make this in 2k3 when I can just play the real thing -- BLAH, BLAH, BLAH," but whatever! I like people porting other games over for other engines. I'll definitely be checking this out.

Odd? It's totally legit to make a fuss over these things, especially since they're ripping a game off and not really doing anything original to it.
I apologize. I thought I made this very clear in the game’s description but I guess I haven’t.

This game is a study. The idea is to study how this game could be recreated in rpgmaker2003 and
then use these principles while creating your own game in rpgmaker2003.

YS 3 isn’t a good game. But it’s an interesting game. It has cut scenes and parallax scrolling.
Wouldn't it be neat if someone could make an entirely original rpgmaker2003 game based on the look of YS 3?

Again, I apologize for any confusion.

LBR, I think that your game description was clear enough. I do like the idea of trying to find what is technically feasible.

Ys 4 would have been easier.

Ys 4 would have been easier.
It would have, but that would kind of miss the point. I mostly took this on cause I wanted to figure out how to recreate parallax scrolling in rpgmaker2003. And Thanks to Kaempfer's Thread: https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/22895/

and Zachary_Braun's wicked template on delayed overlay scrolling, I might actually continue this at some point.
