What is it?
The DKCW engine is an HTML5 based game engine made using Scirra's Construct 2. When released, anyone using Construct 2 will be able to create their own broswer based Donkey Kong Country games, free for everyone to play.

What's it current status?
As of this post, and for the time being, the DKCW is still in development. What we want to do is gauge interest before continuing with development.

What can I do?
Simply play the demo made using the engine, give us feed back, and share the game with other people.

Current Engine Feature Set:
-Support for different characters with different stats (jump height, speed, etc...)*
-Blast Barrels
-Moving Platforms
-Walking/Jumping Enemies
-Flying Enemies
-Bananas!
-Flying Levels (With Funky Kong)*

*Implemented in the engine, but not shown in the demo.

Planned Feature Set:
-Implementation of Diddy, Dixie, and Kiddy
-Support for Animal Buddy Transformations
-Barrel Interaction (Pick Up/Throw)
-More stage features (Bouncy Tires, Crocodile Heads)
-Bonuses
-etc...

Eventually, the DKCX will have most of the features you've come to know and love from Nintendo and Rare's classic.

While I'm not a huge DKC fan, I think there are enough fans of this game to beat down your door for something like this.
@Isreri
I hope to implement that feature, yes.

That's what I'm actually concerned about. I was really gung ho when I started this on Monday, but now I'm realizing the DKC isn't really as popular as Mario or Zelda. Not that it's not fun to work on, but I wonder how many people would want to use this...

Add a lot of customizability to the player avatar, enemies, and levels, and I'd wager people will eat it up.
I for one, am a HUGE Donkey Kong Country fan. Count me in! This looks all kinds of killer!
Wow this looks neat! Going to have to give it a try. Subscribed!
i always wanted a donkey kong country editor! i can't wait till it gets done
^Same here, ha. The Kongs need some love in the fan game arena and hopefully this will help.

In the meantime, I advise anyone interested to start getting used to Scirra's Construct 2 program. I'll do my best so that only a minimal knowledge of the program is needed to successfully incorporate levels, but it would certainly help to know a little more.
After testing it, it is really cool! I found it hard to run and jump at the same time, but that's just cause I didn't feel like configuring Joy2Key for a short demo. Keep up the good work!

I'm actually gonna try out this engine a little bit myself. Looks pretty cool. :)

I've been using Xpadder myself, ha.
BTW, are you using a laptop by any chance?

Yeah, I am. :)
Cool, I'd use this.

You say I would need Construct 2 already - is that free?

Yeah, I am. :)

I figured. My lappy has the same problem so I use a USB keyboard. I think by default they can press more keys simultaneously.

Yup, Construct 2 is free. The differences between the free and licensed version of the program should not have any effect on people using the DKCX to make their games, but I'm currently confirming this with the Construct 2 makers.
I'm impressed with what I see.

A quick curiosity though: is the engine limited to just level production or can we construct world maps as well? If we can construct a world map, is it in the style of Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, or 3?

Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing what you do with this project. The Donkey Kong Country series has always been one of my childhood favorites.

Best of luck to you on development.
cool but too bad construct 2 sounds hard to use. I wish I had got some coding knowledge at school but my school doesnt have a programing class...Oh wait. This engine doesnt require us to know much programming doesnt it? Like that mario bros maker?

There will be a world-map function as well although it will be optional.

Construct 2 is around the same difficulty as RPG Maker... probably easier. You just need to learn the basics, I guess.
