Introduction

This is a reboot of Eremidia: Dungeon!, which has been redirected after years of development.

The storyline has drastically changed and the gameplay has been improved, yet I keep some aspects true to its former counterparts.

After months of reworks, the game has reached its first milestone and the alpha version has been available to be tested.

Synopsis

The story revolves around the Scout who's been hired by the Queen of the soon-to-be-ended Kingdom. The mission is quite simple: search and rescue the missing King when he's embarking the expedition towards a mysterious island in the sky. The Scout then embarks the journey into the island with an Airship full of skillful crews and a Farsight Amulet in hand.
Long story short, the Scout finds himself/herself stranded in an euclidean chambers
in the middle of void which connects the inner part of the island and the outer world, called Void Rift. The Scout is not alone; he/she's in there along with the crewmates of former and latter Airships, yet the King was alleged lost in the Rift.

Along with the Guardian Duo--Richter and Theo, who were also part of the Airship crewmates--the Scout has to find the King and save him at all costs. Little they know the Rift has surprises for those brave and foolish enough to explore the seemingly endless masses of land in the middle of void, and even lesser they realize that the island hides such a threat to the Kingdom; it is called Herald of the World's End for reasons...

So, why with the Kingdom?

In this project, Eremidia Kingdom is simply called "Kingdom" intentionally; while it's still having connections with its former project, An Empty Tome is an independent story which is currently handled by me (richter_h). The whole story is all based on my insight and proposed concepts without direct intervention from the dispersed RPGMakerID community. Most of the contents are left intact; some are altered from their original concepts.

Eremidia itself has been neglected for more than a year, and I have no intention to continue it after this project. That's why the story hints the Kingdom will be ended when the story is concluded.

Features

  • The story is now streamlined into rather linear, simplified story.
Control one of the Scouts with distinctive abilities. Yep, unlike the previous build, now the Scouts are taking part in battle.
Navigate through the Void Rift and find the connected places harbored around the emptiness, including the not-so-great Great Library
Randomized loot across the maps. Sometimes you might find common items, sometimes you might find artifacts inside a chest.
Event-based encounter. No random encounters, and for those who knows how to run, most of battles can be avoided by simply run away from the mishaps!
Grid Battle System; Fight various enemies along your way in the Rift in chess-like battlefield. In this case, everyone is a queen. Party placements can be set in Formation menu.
Per-action EXP gain; no need to finish the battle to get them EXPs. Characters who deliver the killing blow gains more EXPs!
Various 'recruitable' characters with unique abilities, including those who were NPCs like the chatty town guard Richter, Iris the sly Astral Witch, and even the cunning Theodoric armed with ropes and dagger. They'll be recorded into Companions Book once their recruitment conditions are met.
Separated level up system. Characters won't level up after battles; they have to be manually level up via designated Level Up menu. Their skills are also can be upgraded. The upgrades cost EXP points.
Scout's choices will affect many things. Your deeds also will be measured with hidden Karma parameter which determines many things--from rewards given by quest givers, access to hidden places, to recruitment conditions for the recruitable characters along the story. Side stories and even main story will be affected by the Scout's choices
Scout's battle performance also will affect things like rewards, access to hidden areas, up to some perks that accessible only by reaching some degree of skills.
Collect artifacts across the connected planes in the Rift, which will be recorded in Tome of Artifacts. Those artifacts are beneficial in nature, but some artifacts have their drawbacks to the characters.
Record every enemies encountered across the Rift into Eremidiae Bestiarium. Recorded enemies will tell the Scout everything about fought enemies.
Gacha, the notorious feature of many Japanese mobile games is also present in An Empty Tome. Some artifacts may be appeared by gambling with the RNG.
Planned: A growing headquarter. Sanctuary will be filled with many characters as the story goes on.
    Planned: Multilanguage support

Chessmaster's Challenge v1.6.2

Yet another new patch for Chessmaster's Challenge v1.6 is available to download. What's new? Well, there are some to mention, for example:

- Transit Point chest now deposits 50/100/150 golds, depending on which path player is currently on;
- Healing effects now can get through protection and/or magic immune spells;
- Enemies may drop gems more often;
- Several tweaks on enemies as well as playable characters; and
- Some new enemies awaiting in Easy and Medium paths, namely Watchers, Birdmen and Sketelons.

Check the CHANGELOG for more info.

If you already have previous version of Chessmaster's Challenge (namely, v1.6 prior to this update), you can just grab the patch and place it in the existing game folder in your harddrive. Also, since the first build of v1.6, your old savefiles can work with the latest build.

I think you should add a character page because you have so many unique ones to use. Games great so far.

A dedicated wikia will be ordered for this, since there are more things besides characters. Items, accessories, and many more. Also, the lore about each project included in this project probably will be written in it.

Thanks in advance.

looks really awesome
i love games with playable female characters! :D
has cute costume drawings and that checker board battle terrain
looking 4ward to trying this :D!
subbed :D
I gave this a shot last night.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was much better balanced than Wandering Brawler by miles. The spread of different characters and abilities were interesting and the timed hits system seems to have been improved.

I was actually enjoying myself till I ran into a missing file error in battle that threw all my progress out the window. e__e

But then, I had an old version, so I figured that was fixed. Oh well!

The writing needs more consideration though. I know the story doesn't seem like it'll be all that deep, but I'm seeing a load of invalid words all over the place and awkward sentences abound. Maybe get some help with that? Hell, I'll even offer to help in that regard.

In any case, the system mechanics were sound, so nothing to say there.

All in all, I had good fun. I might even download the new version and give it another shot. And for the record, my party was Marvel, Souki, Ryuna, and Nina. They all seemed to work pretty well together despite being a party I made up blind with no prior knowledge of their abilities.
About the errors, many told me so. The missing file was my mistake, and have fixed. Yeah, my bad anyway...

Since most of the dialogues are written by only one person (that is, me), I need someone who can provide proofreading for the writings. Any kind of help is appreciated. :D

I'm working on some assets for now, and thanks to friends of RPGMakerID the monsters will have original sprites as well with other sprites, including the playable characters. So, the new version will take some time to release.

Well, you did well with hybrid of starter pack and alternative pack, as most of players who gave feedbacks chose. And of course, you can choose other 16 characters if you're willing to...

Thanks for your response, and glad to hear you enjoy the game. :D
Hey, I love this game (and addicted to it)! However I've run into a big problem... I can't get into Hazel Ruins Level 6! It keeps on giving me this stupid error:

Script 'Game_Event' line 69: NoMethodError occurred.

undefined method `>' for : Array

It's very sad... as I would like to continue my plunge into the Hazel Ruins! Also, sometimes it says my character levels up and then they actually level up in the next encounter, but it still shows the animation as if they did level up... weird!

I'm running V1.1.12 btw.

This is just like the error reported from someone who plays the game, too...
Are you start the game before you patch the game into v1.1.12? If yes, that may causing the error that the old save data won't work with the current version.
If no, it seems I must check it out and see what exactly the culprit of the error is. Perhaps it'll take a while to fix it, and by the way I'm working on the v1.2; if I don't upload the patch for v1.1.12, perhaps the bugs will be fixed in v1.2.

After all, glad to hear that you love this game, darksydex3226.

its just weird i swear i was going to play that he then it had the same name as this o.o
and was the same game o.o
guess ill re dl that and see :3

Edit
i believe i had a older version of this which led to the confusion sorry about that :3
either way playing this now give feedback
when finished :3
That's why I put a "!" on the filename. The "Dungeon" name is common and maybe is one of public domain name, and I want to make this game stands out.

Anyway, happy E:D!, and feedbacks welcome :D

Wondering if anyone beat this yet?
would be kind enough to put a legit playthru full game

maybe i just really suck(even tho ive gamed my whole life o.o)
but the battles or i should say the lack of resources makes it difficult
i find myself needing 1-3 healing potions a battle yet you
dont obtain enough money thru rewards to buy more potions

even using the healing service after every battle does not seem to be enough.
i also need to figure out what the heros "specials" do like vampire ect next to attack

and that those specials allow you 2 turns for some reason

Edit v
i did not know you had to learn skills manually thru the status screen, made it alot easier
^
//
also the wording of some things
Cruna Magika>description at top says based on health on right it says based on mana
Double Strafe>"enemies turn into fear" < what?

there's many more those are just examples
Ah, Cruna Magicka is pretty tricky to implement to E:D!'s rules... The original game, Cruna Aktrid, has a rule where when the MP, let's just say that to generalize, has depleted enough, it'll decrease the fighter's defenses. It's a common rule applied to both players and enemies, but not in E:D!. Cruna Magicka exists to simulate Cruna Aktrid's rule, but reversed. Mana left will increase Armor.

So it should say it's based on mana.
Lol, yeah..
It's pretty hardcore game in this current version. Especially if you don't know the character's potentials (but hey, his game named "Wandering Brawler" is harder than this game. You can even die in tutorial).

I would suggest you to wait a little longer.
The grid battle system will be more friendly battle system. I already tried that as the beta tester, hehe ...

not even lvl 2 yet :(

So far only a few who have beat this game, and mostly gave me feedback but I can't remember someone made a LP or such.

Well, the player must know each of characters he/she have and learn the Timed-Hit system, or else you'll find it hard to fight against a bunch of slimes or such.
An alternative: you can heal your party with Nella's Healing Light or Ryuna's Dragon Incense. If you pick one of them or both, use them as a primary healer.

Each character has his/her unique ability that can be pulled in command menu, like Vampire Pact, and that ability has Instant-Cast trait; it means after using the ability, the character can do another action.
For further notices, take a look at Skill screen. There are some information about the skills, what trait it has and what effect it will do to the target.
In 1.1 the skills must be learned first before they can be used. Pricky, indeed, so that's why I fix that in the next version.

Some skills are kinda complicated, like:
Cruna Magicka: Basically an armor boost based on current MP. The more MP unspent, the more armor bonus.
Double Strafe: In this version, grants chance to shoot arrow twice instead of once.

In next version, many things changed, and like TheoAllen said, it's far easier than this version of the game.

Well, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask me.
Sorry for the lack of in-game information and the difficulty of the game, though. I hope that didn't make you to stop your attempt to beat the game.
The next version will be up soon, so stay tuned.

Cheers~

partially my fault for deciding to skip the battle tutorial (bad idea)
even with custom scripts its usually pretty obvious what to do.

but not only did i not know about the ! extra damage
i had no skills because i did not check the status screen
due to habit
you never learn skills thru it XD

with those 2 things the game becomes alot easier
tho still ? on money income
and that unfortunately enemies lvl with you :(

i was only using a normal attack b4 that's why i was just like...how do you win!? XD
Yeah. That was my fault to not set the initial skill set to each actors, so I decided to fix that in next version. As TheoAllen said, that helps players especially at the first levels.

In next version, too, the default money gain at the beginning of the game increased and the characters have their initial skill set. Proven at the beta test phase, and perhaps it's balanced enough when it's released.

Well, you can't rely to normal attack forever since some characters are suck in that department, and more in the next version where Grid System implemented (you can check the video footage above for a preview). As I said earlier, know your party first. :D

If you managed to reach 3rd floor and beat the boss there, you can unlock up to 25 more characters. You can see some of them at Characters section for a preview.

Well, do you have favorite characters in your party?
