Version 1.1 Update!

Download the patch in the Downloads folder (or, if you're worried about the patch not applying properly and have ALL OF THE INTERNETS download the new updated full download to be safe) and extract it to the root directory (where the EXE is) and overwrite everything.

This update includes various MP3 fixes, and a few bug fixes and minor level tweaks.

ORIGINAL POST:

What started as an expansion to STTB2 wound up becoming the size of a full game! 25 levels blossomed into 50 which blossomed into over 80, and now we have a project with 101 stars to collect.

The Super Squad has finally had enough of Kirby hanging around and has decided to escort him back to Dreamland and out of their hair. They borrow Tatanga's Starbase and set out, but on the way they're suddenly attacked by Bowser's Space Armada! The Starbase crashes near a mysterious anomaly in space, and the Super Squad decides to set out to investigate, certain that Bowser is once again up to no good.

The structure of The Last Levels is a bit more open than STTB2. At the start of the game you are given a choice of two paths, and each of these paths comprise about half of the game's content. Both paths wind up meeting near the end before the final set of levels. As well, there are several branching paths within each of the two routes, every secret exit in the game has at least one level behind it (even if it's just a Green Star Challenge). So try and find the best route to reach the mysterious anomaly, or go for 100% completion!

Two secret worlds are also hidden somewhere out there, the 'World of Random Discontent' contains a number of highly challenging levels to test your SMBX abilities, while the 'World of Random Content' contains mostly breezy fun and strange levels to have a good time with.

Overall The Last Levels is designed to be a more challenging experience than STTB2, so get ready for Space Adventure!

BASIC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

This is a standalone game! We had to modify a lot of built-in SMBX assets to make this presentation possible. That means you need to extract the contents of the download zip to its very own folder somewhere on your hard drive. Do not extract it to a standard SMBX folder or its worlds directory or things will get broken!

Once extracted, run smbx.exe and select 'Start Game', and have fun!

STTB1+2+2.5 COMPLETE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

It's possible to merge The Last Levels with a copy of Super Talking Time Bros 1+2 if you have both. However it's important to note that SMBX is very often weird about this, and it might just refuse to work if you attempt it. It's easier to keep The Last Levels to its own directory, but if you'd like to consolidate it with your STTB1+2 folder then it can work if you follow these instructions and hope the swirling vortex of chaos that powers SMBX decides to cut you a break!

Open your Super Talking Time Bros 1+2 root folder, where the SMBX.EXE is located.

Have ready the zip file for The Last Levels.

Extract the contents of the zip to the root Super Talking Time Bros 1+2 folder.

Overwrite everything. All folders, files, even smbx.exe need to be replaced for this method to work!

If you did this correctly, you should see the fancy new splash and title screens we created for The Last Levels, and all three STTB episodes will be available when you start a New Game!

Enjoy!

Having some trouble getting this to work. There's a horrible screeching noise when the "push up to start" screen comes up, and when I push up the game stops responding. I tried replacing the music file that's supposed to play on this screen, and it seemed to fix the problem. However, the same thing happens when I get to the world map: awful screeching noise and the game stops responding when I try to enter a level. Is anyone else having this problem? Is anyone NOT having this problem? I have redownloaded the game several times and followed the basic installation instructions exactly.

Are you playing it as a stand-alone from the download, or did you try to patch it into STTB1+2? There are sometimes weird issues when it's extracted into STTB1+2. Best best is to, if you can, either play it on its own, or download a fresh copy of STTB1+2 and extract into that.

REMEMBER!: You can copy your saves. Just grab the .SAV files from the World folders.

I hope that helps.

Stand-alone (ie. followed the instructions for basic installation), though I do have a STTB1+2 installation in a different folder on another hard drive. I'm not sure I understand how copying my .SAV file would help.

Investigating things further in the world editor, it seems like there's something weird going on with the Super Mario Galaxy music files you're using on the overworld map (the ones in the 'music' folder if I understand correctly). They work fine in winamp, but whenever they're supposed to play in game or in the editor, the program stops responding. Replacing these files with my own copies of the same music has fixed the problem every time it's come up so far.

It doesn't sound like any of the commenters here had actually tried playing the game yet, so I thought this might be a thing you should know about. If this isn't happening to anyone else, I'll just continue replacing files as needed.
We encountered a similar issue during testing, though not with those specific MP3s.

This seems to be a very odd quirk with SMBX and certain audio set-ups, we were never able to nail down what happened before, and it happened so infrequently there was really no way to test for it. So far no one else has had issues with those specific MP3s, and no one else might. But when we get around to doing the first patch I'll see if I can replace all the SMG2 MP3s with different versions.

Other areas of the world map use SMG2 music, as well as the ending, so that might be a thing, just a heads up.
i want to help with one of your games with the levels.

Anyone is welcome to join on our projects (and it seems like we always have something cooking now), but you have to be a member of talking time. Go sign up at telebunny.net/talkingtime (soon to be available at talking-time.net).

Once you are there, you should be able to find our project pages, but if you have any questions you can PM me (just "McClain" on there).
I tried to join Talking Time once. My account request was never approved.
