While This Might Not Be a Part of the RM2K3 Challenge Event...

...Withered Reason should be the focus of your RM2K3 needs as it is a serious RPG with a completely original story, well-developed and respected characters, a semi-open world, non-linear (if you know what you're doing) experience to indulge in, a HUGE amount of intricately designed maps to explore, over 360 and counting, developed gameplay OUTSIDE of the battle system, a tweaked battle system that allows for a different experience from most RM2K3 games, and balanced gameplay that does everything to please the player.

For the last few years I've been working to complete this project, but with academic obligations, less-than-optimal progress has been made. However, it's the consistency I've shown these past couple of years that has brought Withered Reason into it's current form. For those who have already played the demo, Withered Reason has transcended beyond that form and has incorporated many new features, locales, characters, plotlines, and subtle technical workings that only help to enhance the experience for the player.

For the uninitiated, Withered Reason follows six main characters as they come to grips with the conflicts that have been raging around them for their entire lives. Each character has a unique back story and motivations which drive them forward through the exposition.

If you're looking for the next great RPG to come out, Withered Reason is where you need to focus your attention. I plan to work diligently as I have intended all this time to complete my work and give it to all of you to enjoy.

Well, I generally avoid demos here and focus on reviewing completed games. This blog made me reconsider. Expect a review sometime soon. Given the tone of this blog post, there are only two possibilities:

a) This really is the "next great RPG", an example of what a lone developer can do if they're willing to reach for the stars, yet maintain their commitment to quality at every turn. That's a rare thing indeed, and certainly something to be praised.

or

b) You're vastly over-estimating the quality of your game relative to what has already been released, on RMN and elsewhere: an unfortunately common malaise among developers and artists in general (i.e. the many attempts to create "the next Fallout" throughout the noughts, none particularly successful) In this case, an honest review will hopefully serve as a necessary corrective to show the disconnect between promises and reality.

That is all for now. I sincerely hope it's a) rather than b).
Just keep in mind that the demo is intended to introduce certain characters and plot points. The current game dwarfs the demo many times over in terms of quality and mechanics
Well, I'll be writing about what I see, no more no less. For reference, however, can you please give a quick run-down of the more important differences so that I can have an idea of what "many times over" actually means?
I wanted to start off by saying thanks, the only other review I have is on another site and I appreciate you taking the time to review my game.

Anyways there are around 5 more towns, 8 new environmental areas/dungeons, a working item synthesis menu, class changing that follows along the lines of what's present in the demo, MP goes UP when attacking, and the overall format is more open-world inasmuch as you can explore the map freely once you get a boat, you can get it earlier than the main story dictates if you fulfill certain requirements, the world map is much more developed, perhaps the biggest change in the world map format is that there are miniature "transition" areas that consist of a map or two with encounters since there are no random encounters, and more puzzle-based elements just about wraps up the major differences.

Also, map design/quality is ALWAYS improving
So, where exactly does the demo end? I'm currently stuck right after Zelan and Kuran fight the mysterious guy at the remains of the bridge. I finish the fight with no problems, and find the chest that is dragged back into the sea, but afterwards there's nowhere to go since the player cannot jump backwards to higher ledges. Is that it, or am I missing something?
snake back around from where that fight is to the rock, jump back over, go to the right and up, and you'll see another rock you can jump on. It'll trigger a sequence where the bridge is built to connect the two sides, you'll cross automatically after the CS is over. There's another fight after that. After that one, instead of exiting that map to the bottom, go over what looks like another bridge to the left of that and there's another mini-scenario with another boss
A bit late, but thanks! I always just assumed rocks were only there to mark the jump points, and that you were supposed to jump at the ledges. Anyway, that chapter is done, and now I just need to navigate the mansion as Aryn. I should figure it out well enough, but I did just find a bug that just restarted the entire nighttime balcony scene when I walked over there. :(
I'll be sure to address that, thanks. Anyways that's more or less the rest of the demo, at this point it's just going to the town and you can walk around a bit.
