Speed your starship through perilous solar fields as rogue Space Axolotls fire plasma bolts in your path!

On a daring mission to save an energy-starved space colony, Solar Platypus must navigate his advanced starship Solar Cruiser to collect errant solar-cells. As the Galactic World Colonization Initiative's top Solar Pilot, he is our best hope to save the colony!

Ominous Sentinels oscillate along the perimeter of the solar field and riddle the area with plasma bolts. These are drones of the nefarious Space Axolotls who wish to collect the solar-cells for themselves. The slightest touch of these plasma bolts will reduce the Solar Cruiser to ash!

Can Solar Platypus endure, evade the danger, collect all of the solar-cells and save the colony?

This game is inspired by/is a clone of Solar Fox - an awesome game for the Atari 2600 from 1982

Groooooovvvvvvy...

(Well I AM in the Atari spirit)

Looks pretty rad, boss. I look forward to giving this a spin when the beast gets unleashed. ^^
Fun game. That ending music blew my eff'in mind. I sat and listened to the whole thing. It's a lot like the title music from Solstice on NES. Super progressive.

Here's my first playthrough, no sound :/ Made it through on one quarter.

How long do you think it will take for you to upload a new version with more levels? I wanted to add this vid as Media, but since it has no sound it would be lacking. I want to re-record so I'm wondering if I should wait.

The final area where your score updates, or the game over music? In either case, they both came from the freemusicarchive.org site. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/RoccoW/ most of the tracks are by this guy
Yeah, I reread the game description and saw that link. He's talented! It's the game over music that I'm talking about.

So when's the next version?

The 524 is for 524 Stone Crabs

I played the Arcade Heroes version and I loved it, I can't wait for the next version!

How did you get that score panel to work, by the way? Was it with a script?

yes. Fomar wrote a script for me for a very simple HUD for the Settlers of Kentan and I tweaked it a little.

oshitatimer! coming in the next version.
24/40 levels completed so far.
40 rocking levels for you to enjoy! Let me know if you find any bugs or whatever. All of the music is by RoccoW. Rock on, Platypii!
O.O that was FAST. Two games finished within a week of each other?! Awesome!

Now go finish Aether Pulse!
Well, this is a simple arcade game. I did want to add a savepoint just before the final level (it's a doozy) so if you find any bugs/unbalanced levels, let me know right away so I can address them.
All right, my only real complaint is the final level. It's...well....I'm pretty sure it's impossible. The other levels are hard, but that level is just downright unfair.

I've beaten it several times now. But yes, it is hella-hard! You have to hang out in the middle area for a bit to lure some ships there.

Just added to my playlist. Can't help the Atari retro appeal. That and it's a kentona completed game!

This game is awesome! Despite the simple premise it never gets boring as all levels are well-designed, and it's very challenging but always lots of fun. The learning curve is really smooth as well, so after every completed level you're capable of showing reflexes you didn't even know you had before. It also helps that the music is just amazing and fits the fast pace of the game extremely well. After a while, I became completely absorbed and it sort of put me into a state of super-concentration where I managed to pull off stunts in the game that seemed just impossible.
It's a good thing there's a save point right before the final level, though, becuase that one is going to kick your butt and then kick it some more.

I did find a few oddities, like lingering enemy projectiles sometimes being transferred over to the next level, or the player sometimes being able to pick up solar cells just by turning towards them without actually moving onto their tile.

Other than that, Solar Platypus is a thoroughly enjoyable arcade game and I highly recommend trying it out. If you haven't played this game yet, go rectify that right now!
