If you have Windows XP This has happened to one Windows 7 user, too?!...The game will fail to play the credits at the very end and crash, possibly deleting your save file. You're not actually missing out on seeing any content, but if you want to keep your save file safe you might want to save in 2 different slots as a precaution.

The results of this crash reminds me of a bug I had in Hero's Realm, where sometimes you would get an error somewhere along the lines of "Insufficient memory to create stream" and the program would crash and the savefile you were on would become corrupted and unusable.

The worse news is I never did find the cause of the crash.

Do you know what error message people are getting?
It's a little reassuring that it's not just my game that occasionally crashes for no apparent reason...

It depends on the person. Some people are getting the error message "no such interface supported," while others don't get any message before the screen turns black. In a few cases, the audio from the video successfully played, but the screen stayed the same as though there was no video.

I thought for a while that the cause was a missing .dll file on Windows XP computers. But after a Windows 7 user also encountered the error and I found out that I myself don't have the supposedly missing file, I'm not so sure that's it anymore.
Problem is that Rm2k3 has a random chance of not working on newer OSes. It's technically...unsupported by now unless it's updated like RM2k Value.
I think it has something to do with the “video playback” option, as I’ve also had the same problem with one my games while running a .AVI file when I had to switch from using XP to Windows 7 after upgrading my computer a year back. In the end, I just had to upgrade my video drivers and it fixed the problem.

You could also just use pictures to post the credits information while playing the ending BGM in the background on another map and this will also solve the problem.

Oh...so...is there nothing I can really do to fix it?

Hm...it's not really practical to make everyone playing the game update their video drivers, though.

Using pictures instead is a great idea! This sounds awful and lazy, but to be honest, I'm so done with my own game right now that I can't muster up the motivation to go back in and change the credits. After all, at worst people will just not see the credits. But, lesson learned.
