http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiCx8mKtXZc
*Episodic Releases now supported! The game will be released in 6 episodes. Players will be able to keep and continue from their old game saves as of V1.02.
*Note: The Radish/Radish Monster quest is part of the Ultimate Sidequest. The Radish Monster makes an appearance in Episode 2.
The Story
Dark Lord is seeking out the 5 Cliches of Power and with them he can rule the land! For some reason, only you can stop him. Also...he has stolen your nifty hat that you didn't really like anyway. Along the way, you'll probably fall in love with the shy healer who happens to hold some mysterious key to stopping him. There's probably a magic tree involved too somehow. Maybe you even start your own rock band...who knows?!
Features
*A hilarious world of RPG cliches including but not limited to:
Enemies that are slightly different colors!
Potions of Uselessness! Vendor Trash! A...herring!
Dungeons that mysteriously crumble apart after you beat the boss!
Innkeepers who are *definitely* NOT vampires!
NPCs that are guaranteed to keep you cracking up with witty one-liners
that you'll swear you've heard before!
A fully working slot machine so Ralph can foster his gambling addiction!
*A quirky narrator and a snide Save Crystal keep you company throughout your
journey!
*Cute as a button(TM) original Battler art!
*Clichiary (Unlockable Achievements)
50 classic RPG cliches to uncover as you play!
*The Ultimate Sidequest
The most devious sidequest ever imagined! Help various NPCs with banal quests
that only you can complete! An optional but major part of the game.
*A simple, easy to use crafting system. It's use is optional with the exception of some quests and sidequests.
*Default RTP! (with some slight edits and added original resources)
*A fully mapped world! No cheesy overworld.
*NO auto-generated dungeons! Yuck!
*No unnecessary grinding, impossible puzzles or being forced to repeatedly
slog back and forth through the same areas, leaving you to just play for fun!
*Unlock fast travel options as progress through the game.
*Save anywhere! No totalitarian save points, forcing you to repeat the last hour of the game. Save Crystals appear in the game for visual cues, healing and snarky advice but you can save your progress at any time, at any place.
GAMEPLAY TIPS:
Click on as many things as possible. You can find all sorts of free items and other stuff!
Don't forget to sell armour, weapons and other items you don't need to make extra CC (cliche coins) to buy better ones. You have to unequip them first.
Recipes aren't enabled yet in Episode 1 so sell any ingredients you find for extra CC.
There is a log of wood behind your house and another one in the same area by a grove
of trees. Pick them up and sell them for a little extra CC.
Take note of enemy weaknesses in-game. While one type of enemy may be weak to a
certain attack, spell or item an enemy of the same type with higher resistances or
defense/magic defense may be less weak to it.
Use the Inn for cheap healing after battles.
Use small healing items after battles to heal yourself. Use better healing items during battle.
Use skills and items! They can make the difference in battle. Timing is key.
Stock up on items before you enter the first dungeon. You can leave the dungeon to sell/buy
items if you need to.
You can use fast travel skills outside of dungeons and dangerous areas.
You will encounter enemies randomly in the first two areas. In the dungeon you will encounter random enemies and traps but at specific points. Be careful! There will be a visual cue before you enter a boss room but there may not be for mini-boss encounters!
After fighting the mini-boss outside Cliche Town you should go back to town, heal and buy items/equipment before venturing further down the Forest Path.
The Blue Guy has high DEF and lower ATK. The Red Guy has high ATK and lower DEF. You may want to focus on killing the Red Guy first.
At some point during the Crumbling Dungeon you may want to make a quick trip back to Forest Junction and talk to the Merchant to buy/sell items. You won't re-trigger enemy encounters that you've already fought so it's fairly safe to leave the Dungeon. You should go see the merchant in Forest Junction before boss battles if you need extra items.
Shrug it Off can be used outside of battle if you have enough SP saved up! Shrug it Off doesn't help much when you're about to die but it can be useful otherwise during a battle if timed properly. If you're fighting weaker or defensive enemies you can take the opportunity to heal.
Useful Items:
Forest Frost: Raises your DEF for 3 turns and is an overall useful item.
Stim Shake: Restores 50% of your SP.
Fire is effective against living and undead creatures alike however it relies on your Magic Attack (MAT) stat. It is partially effective against Rat type enemies. Since Ralph is a Warrior, this may not be a particular effective item for him though. You will unlock magic users in Dock Town during Episode 2.
Ice is very effective against Slime and Jelly type enemies so you may want to stock up on a little Icewater and save your Breathmints for boss battles. Be careful though, some slimes have higher MDEF than others like Slime Wizard and Pinky. Pinky can also raise its party's MDEF as well with its Wiggle skill, making Ice attacks less effective.
At level 3 you earn the skill Punchkick. It deals a double attack with a chance to Crit. Make it your friend!
Save often and carefully. You can't undo a bad save. You will encounter save points in the
game as visual cues and that may also provide storyline information but you can save at any
time during the game.
You may want save from room to room in the dungeon. I don't want to give everything away but you may encounter some nasty stuff in there. You can use multiple save files if you need to.
There are two kinds of Plot Devices, a locked Plot Device and a normal Plot Device. Locked Plot Devices require a Plot Key to open. Normal Plot Devices must be lowered by solving a puzzle, defeating an enemy or doing something else.
The Switch Room in the Crumbling Dungeon is a bonus room. You only get one chance to solve the Switch Puzzle. Not completing it won't prevent you from progressing through the rest of the dungeon nor will you miss out on any vital plot points/items/etc.
It's possibly to complete a Heart Container in Episode 1, if you have a Herring and if you are also really lucky in the Crumbling Arcade but don't count on it. If you sold your Herring you can get another in Dock Town in Episode 2.
Boss Fights:
Slime Wizards have a healing spell and will cast them when a Boss's health becomes low. Icewater, Breathmints and Punchkick are effective against them.
Stimshakes and Forest Frost both come in handy during Boss Fights.
Talk to the save cyrstal before the last boss fight. You will learn a new skill critical to defeating the final boss!
The final boss has a deadly condition attack which he may use when he's close to dying. Be careful! A Pirelli's Miracle Cure will restore your senses.
You'll find a chest full of coins in the Crumbling Arcade, that seems like it was left there by accident. Enjoy!
You can see the achievements (cliches) you've unlocked in-game by accessing the Clichiary
under Items-Quest Items.
