Nothing innovative and has issues, but relatively well done.

I know It is old, but great game, and just wanted to note a few things:
-Chase scenes: kinda annoying as the game is pitch black and one is likely to run into a bunch of holes in the floor that cannot be seen until you are on top of them and then die.
-Again with it being pitch black: scenes where certain enemies are black shadows that move as fast as you when it is pitch black and you only see them 1 step away (it doesn't give enough time to run, basically anytime I saw enemies, I just remembered the paths and hope I got lucky while running, it isn't a challenge, just based on luck of not hitting a shadow..)
-Background noises weren't that interesting and seemed a little generic but they were somewhat okay in making me feel creeped-out.
- - this really bothered me: in a story, the characters need to be consistent,
which i found they weren't: some examples
Tiaga, the coward seemed pretty brave to just walk out after finally meeting a friend, and also why is he surprised that the other spirits were real when he was talking to a spirit... Kayako seemed a little more scared than Tiaga when she is portrayed as brave, finally this one really got me: when Yuuki stabbed Tiaga, she screamed in terror and felt so sorry: then after she leaves the room, she doesn't seem phased, she even laughs about random stuff after meeting up with Kayako, the only time she seems sad again is after Yukiko mentions his name again (and the ending). I honestly felt I was sadder for Tiaga than Yuuki was...

- - I know sometimes (especially if English is not one's first language) making a proper translation is difficult. But this really needed more proofreading. There were mistakes in nearly every sentence of dialogue b/w characters (usually tenses like took or take, so everything is understandable, it was just noticeably irritating) but even things that things that the creators knew where mistaken: like a part that says lots of soul (missing an S) then the other character said souls (knowing souls is plural).

+Love the choice of music
+liked the story (not spectacular but done well in my opinion)
+Minus some inconsistencies, I grew to like the characters (some generic tropes but done well)
+Plenty of background story to be found, I was really interested in finding all the notes, and it was worth it.
+Game has nice art, way too dark, but it was nice - immersive and pretty in certain areas.

* While I always like to refrain from assuming something is bugged I felt the need to point this out: (Disclaimer: I would REALLY LIKE TO STRESS: while I feel the second half of this "bug" is a bug, I am not sure if the first half is also a bug, so I am not intending it to be immediately taken as one)
Like the walkthrough says, I dont attack dad (dont get the katana) I did not lie to the priest and he letured me, I found the pendant for the snowman, I prioritized finding Tiaga, I did side with tiaga in the beginning, I won against psycho me and still stabbed Tiaga. Now that did confuse me as I followed the walkthrough, but that alone just made me think I missed something (which I still doubt.. I was thorough) But even if this wasn't a bug, I am pretty sure this was: The walkthrough says if you slash the door open, you will kill Kayako (which I believe b/c I did do that) after that, she was nowhere to be seen, I found the two items on the floor, but towards the end, the room before the archives, she appeared in my character screen and even though I killed her, I got the ending with her alive (and she was there for the final battle).

Overall:
characters: 4/5: Usually the protagonist seems like she'd be a side character, but she is well done and unique/memorable. the other characters follow basic/typical character tropes but they are made well (once again no need to reinvent the wheel here just make it well)
Visuals: 2.5/5: Nothing spectacular, but it was pretty and set a good atmosphere, but the fact that most of it was pitch black really takes away from it and also hindered the play-ability of the game at points.
Story: 4.5/5 nothing special, but done well (no need to reinvent the wheel, just make sure it is properly made)
Sounds: Divided into music and background noises:
-Background noises 2/5 I guess they did the job but where generic, overused, and uninteresting
- Music: 4.5/5 Love the music, I think I will keep the folder saved so I can re-listen to the songs. Really set the atmosphere.

To conclude: I really like this game, but there were a few variable: constant errors in grammar, excessively dark areas that make it hard to play, etc. that hindered my enjoyment of the game. And I would like to note that I dislike rating out of 5, i think 10 is more accurate b/c 3.5 feels low, a 7/10 is not bad, it just means there is work to be done (if a game is truly average, I would give it a 50/10 or 2.5/5 as I don't like game critics using 7 as "average". So good game overall, I am writing this review way after it's release, but in case anyone is wondering whether to play it or not now, I still think this was an enjoyable experience that I am glad to have had.
