This is a game for those who love to explore, experiment, and discover. Welcome.

Story:

You have seen and done things that were
never supposed to be, and I have come
here to offer you a choice.

You can try and go back to your lives as
they were, fighting the Knights and
relieving people of their possessions...

...or you can help me.

Help me make sure that what happened to
you doesn't happen to anyone else ever
again.

Arrym is a Wraith, one of an elite band of thieves notorious for taking on big jobs. He has all the talent in the world, but what little motivation he once had has all but dried up.

Branak has the opposite problem. He is a Wisp, a newly inducted member of the guild, with seemingly misplaced dreams of greatness. He is determined to prove himself in the eyes of his superiors and take his place among the Wraiths.

They are partners.

In the midst of completing a job and evading their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Thorn, they are presented with a bigger job. Much bigger...and far more noble than they would typically agree to.

Grant me the resolve to return to the treasures
I cannot yet obtain, the ingenuity to obtain those I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

- Wraith Prayer

Battle System:

Almost everything on-map in Canvas is evented, including the battle system. Use an assortment of pixel-based attacks and abilities to dispatch your enemies in a variety of ways. You can anger them with arrows, stun them with bombs, throw them into each other with gusts of wind, and more! Each on-map enemy was carefully crafted with its own behavior, movement style, and methods of attack to provide the player with challenging and often thought-provoking encounters. Your on-map weapon will change appearance based on the weapon you have equipped.

Features:

  • Character swapping- each with their own unique "tool" and advantage/disadvantages when it comes to combat (Weapon range, attack speed, etc.)

  • A variety of shared tools/abilities acquired throughout the game, useful for combat and puzzle solving.

  • Item crafting

  • Area maps

  • Bestiary

  • Glossary

  • Characters grow based on your AP allocation

  • Breaks the 8th wall!

  • A free-jump system that works hand in hand with my...

  • Robust elevation system- Ties in with projectiles, tools, line of sight, jumping, etc.

  • Puzzles aplenty!- You will need to experiment with your tools, and then come up with new and creative ways to use and combine them.

  • Mini-games galore!- As you explore the world of Canvas, you will discover many evented mini-games to add variety to the gameplay. They are all fully-interactive game systems as opposed to pass/fail based on a number or stat systems.
    • Lockpicking (2 versions)
    • Mining
    • Fishing
    • Pickpocketing
    • Blacksmithing
    • Persuasion

*The game is around 15 hours long.

The game is unencrypted, and for those who own Rpg Maker VX Ace, I encourage you to poke around and explore.

Hi aquatorrent,
Thanks for giving Canvas a try! Were you able to continue on from where you were with the walkthrough? Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again.

np :)
now i'm having a trouble in barriad pass in c7. i already stand on the empty platform next to the switch and lure the harpy on the upper level to "hit" the chest through me (and jump down after it attacks), but the attack doesn't seem to reach it- i think it hit the wall instead (based on the sfx). did i miss something?

and i can't seem to understand how to mine. mind letting me know how to do that?

Great progress! You're doing the right thing in C7, but the map has an error. Not knowing how many people would make it there, and with a full release coming very soon, I opted to include a small file fix rather than reupload a new folder. If you go to my locker you can download the specific map data and replace your copy in the data/maps folder. Let me know if you need more help with that. As far as mining goes, first choose any 3 spots to place nodes. The number it tells you is how many combined spaces the nodes are from the ore. For example, if it says 7, it might mean that one node is 3 spaces away and the other two nodes are each 2 spaces away(3+2+2). You would try and find all the spots that are a total of 7 spaces away from the nodes in my example. If the ore is next to a node it is 1 space away from that node. If it shares the spot it is 0 spaces away. At this point there might be several spots that would work, so you get a fourth and final node to try and narrow it down to the exact location. Hope this helps.

thanks! it worked. i just realized that the problem has been addressed before. my bad. i finally succeed in mining an ore, although i'm kinda lazy to re-explore through the map and find all the ore that i missed so i'll just skip that. finished the demo with some places being not "finished" (because i fail to understand on how to clear those things), although i think it's fine. i'm just super curious about the hint to pass through evermeadow forest. i tried to follow the girl's movement but that doesn't seem to be the case.

no problem. i already addressed the other things on the review (which is waiting to be accepted) although it might be a bit bad since i was half asleep when i wrote it (haven't got the time to recheck it). it's good that you are still working on the game despite of the low response on the game though. :)

and yeah, a hint for evermeadow will be great. i don't think i remember the other puzzle very well so i'll just skip that.
played this a few months back and got stuck. Now I know it wasnt actually finished, lol. Will probably have to redownload this then. I liked Manifest alot so I know this game will be good.

Oh yeah I was also stuck at ever meadow

@aquatorrent - A hint for the Evermeadow is that every single tool, character specific and shared (maybe with the exception of the map), will be used directly for puzzle solving at some point. It's an optional location, so I don't want to spoil it. It's one of my favorite puzzles in the game.

@bicfarmer - Hope you get a chance to play the full version. If you do find yourself stuck again, the walkthrough should help, and I can help out if it doesn't. Thanks for the interest and the kind words.
Does anyone know how to kill Peanut please? I'm getting slaughtered whatever I try. Thanks in advance.

@mal - Thanks for picking up a copy of the full game! I can help you out with Peanut below...
When you hit him with your weapon it won't hurt him, but it will anger him. He'll pause for a moment giving you a chance to get some distance, and then he will run after you quickly. I recommend using the sprint shoes as your shared tool to keep away from him. After chasing you for a few seconds he will charge in the direction he was facing. When he hits the wall he will be stunned for a few seconds. You can get a couple of attacks in from behind where he is vulnerable, and then move away quickly. Repeat. He hits really hard, so you might need to heal often, or you can always change the combat difficulty which will cut his HP and his attack in half. Don't worry so much about getting hit by the flame spurts as their damage is minimal compared to a hit from Peanut.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need additional help with him or at any other point. Thanks again for playing.
Thanks for such a quick reply. I actually managed to beat him!! This is a great game & I am really enjoying it. I also played Manifest & loved that one too.

Thank you very much. Glad I could help. I look forward to hearing back from you as you progress.
I have no idea what I'm doing with the schematics at Fort Thorn. I have looked at all 4 & I'm not even sure what I'm meant to be doing. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Help below.

There are 4 puzzle rooms in Fort Thorn that require one of the schematics to complete. The one in the bottom left of the map is optional (the only schematic without yellow squares). The first of the mandatory puzzles requires a 5-digit passcode, and one of the schematics will highlight which 5 numbers to enter (read top to bottom and left to right). You will need to stand on a specific spot in the puzzle room for the schematic to line up.

If you need more explicit help with the first one, please don't hesitate to ask. I can help as needed with the others as you get to them, just let me know.
Thanks for replying so quickly. Am trying to work out the invisible pits with schematic D but am clearly doing something wrong! More help please?! and thanks for being so patient!

nvm, have started to make progress!!
Can't activate the switches at D6 - screenshot posted below

Based on the screenshot, it seems as if you already did activate them. There was a gate on the upper left door, but it's gone in your screenshot. That only happens when you have both switches pressed at the same time.
Sorry for being an idiot!! I didn't get a message about a gate being activated so I assumed (wrongly) that nothing had happened. Many thanks for your help & patience.

EDIT - I am now stuck at D4!!! I have frozen everything to reach the button but don't know what to do next. Sorry for being such a pest!

You never have to apologize and you'll never be a pest. You are taking the time to play my game.

Definitely one of the most complex puzzles in the game. It requires several abilities/gadgets to solve.
Some help below...it's going to be specific step by step instructions on the puzzle. If you want less explicit hints, don't read the spoiler below and let me know.

1.Shoot an arrow at one of the golems to anger him and let him run down to the bottom wall.
2.Freeze him away from the side walls as he paces back and forth.
3.Stand above the frozen golem when you shoot the 2nd golem. That way he will run into the ice block when you move out of the way, and he won't go all the way to the bottom.
4.Freeze him away from the side walls so you're able to move the resulting ice block side to side.
5.Move the 2nd, higher ice block until it is in line with the switch, just below the spikes.
6.This is the part that will require some timing. Use your wind flux to push the ice block into the dragon so it stops on the switch. It should be pretty forgiving on the time, but if you throw the block up too early or too late, you'll have to repeat steps 1-5.

Good luck!
Wow...you weren't joking were you? It took the best part of an hour but I finally did it! The sense of satisfaction is huge. Am now looking to battle with the boss. Thanks again for your help & patience.
