This is a game for those who love to explore, experiment, and discover. Welcome.

Story:

You have seen and done things that were
never supposed to be, and I have come
here to offer you a choice.

You can try and go back to your lives as
they were, fighting the Knights and
relieving people of their possessions...

...or you can help me.

Help me make sure that what happened to
you doesn't happen to anyone else ever
again.

Arrym is a Wraith, one of an elite band of thieves notorious for taking on big jobs. He has all the talent in the world, but what little motivation he once had has all but dried up.

Branak has the opposite problem. He is a Wisp, a newly inducted member of the guild, with seemingly misplaced dreams of greatness. He is determined to prove himself in the eyes of his superiors and take his place among the Wraiths.

They are partners.

In the midst of completing a job and evading their sworn enemies, the Knights of the Thorn, they are presented with a bigger job. Much bigger...and far more noble than they would typically agree to.

Grant me the resolve to return to the treasures
I cannot yet obtain, the ingenuity to obtain those I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

- Wraith Prayer

Battle System:

Almost everything on-map in Canvas is evented, including the battle system. Use an assortment of pixel-based attacks and abilities to dispatch your enemies in a variety of ways. You can anger them with arrows, stun them with bombs, throw them into each other with gusts of wind, and more! Each on-map enemy was carefully crafted with its own behavior, movement style, and methods of attack to provide the player with challenging and often thought-provoking encounters. Your on-map weapon will change appearance based on the weapon you have equipped.

Features:

  • Character swapping- each with their own unique "tool" and advantage/disadvantages when it comes to combat (Weapon range, attack speed, etc.)

  • A variety of shared tools/abilities acquired throughout the game, useful for combat and puzzle solving.

  • Item crafting

  • Area maps

  • Bestiary

  • Glossary

  • Characters grow based on your AP allocation

  • Breaks the 8th wall!

  • A free-jump system that works hand in hand with my...

  • Robust elevation system- Ties in with projectiles, tools, line of sight, jumping, etc.

  • Puzzles aplenty!- You will need to experiment with your tools, and then come up with new and creative ways to use and combine them.

  • Mini-games galore!- As you explore the world of Canvas, you will discover many evented mini-games to add variety to the gameplay. They are all fully-interactive game systems as opposed to pass/fail based on a number or stat systems.
    • Lockpicking (2 versions)
    • Mining
    • Fishing
    • Pickpocketing
    • Blacksmithing
    • Persuasion

*The game is around 15 hours long.

The game is unencrypted, and for those who own Rpg Maker VX Ace, I encourage you to poke around and explore.

Congratulations! It's very exciting to know that at least one person is getting close to beating the game.
Halfway done with Manifest, looking forward to playing this game next! :)

Thank you for the kind words. Alundra, Phantasy Star IV, or both? =)
"Canvas Quest" has been released on Steam today.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/659260/Canvas_Quest/

It's unfortunate that two games that have "Canvas" as a title component have been released in quick succession, and even the more so because your game, sbethune81, should probably be the one to make money.

That is unfortunate, but I don't think my game will affect their sales. Canvas hasn't gotten much traction...yet =).
I encountered this bug in the beginning of the game where I am allowed to walk anywhere ... like even up mountains, structures, and water. I'm not sure what triggered this bug, It might have been from a weird jump I made towards a wall or something. Even after exiting the mad to another location I was able to walk wherever. Thought I'd let you know here to be sure you know m8. Game looks lovely though ^_^

Thank you for letting me know. It is most likely that you entered a minigame where passability is set to "through" and the command that sets it back to normal wasn't processed. Unfortunately, every so often a command isn't processed correctly. If that's the case, there isn't anything I can do about that. Of course there's always a chance that it's a mistake on my part =). If someone is able to reproduce it, I can look into fixing it.

For now, if you'd like to keep playing the game as it was intended, there are a few options. You could send me your save file, and I can reset your passability. You can also try and enter into another minigame (other than lockpicking), and the passability should be fixed after exiting it or completing it. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help and thank you again for playing and letting me know about the bug.

@chuy9711 - I figured out what happened that allowed you to walk through the walls, and I think I've provided a fix that will keep it from happening again. The download has been updated. Thanks.
Hello :)
I need help. I don't know how to get past the golem in E4 in Gossamer Spires. Otherwise I'm really enjoying the game. I have finished the ruins of resolve.

I have also been experiencing a bug whenever I play the persuasion game, I'm transported on walls/sea and cannot get back where we are supposed to walk. I have used breadcrumbs to get back on the map but it doesn't work after playing the persuasion game in the Cove.

PS: Thank you for this lovely game!

Thank you so much for playing, koko10! Congratulations on making it so far and beating the ruins.

In fixing a series of bugs a while back, it caused that transporting bug after the persuasion game. I have since fixed that and updated the download, but you must have downloaded a copy from earlier. If you copy your save files, redownload the game from this site, and paste the save files back in the new folder, it should be all cleared up. Please let me know if it isn't. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I'll give hints and explicit help below...

You'll first need to move the golem so you can get next to him. Then you will need to use a combination of 2 of your abilities to get rid of him.

If the hints don't help...
Use the lyre to force the golem back. Freeze the golem and then use Earth flux to smash him.

If you've already tried this, and it didn't work, this problem will also be cleared up by redownloading the game.

Please let me know if you need anything else at all. Thank you again for playing!
Wow! Thank you for a fast reply. Yes I did try this solution and it didn't work. I will redownload the game and let you know if everything is fine.

Edit: It's working now :D :D :D

Thanks for letting me know. Both the golem puzzle and the persuasion game are working?
Yes both are working. I'm going to accumulate some AP now ... The boss seems really difficult to beat. Thank you again for your help!

My pleasure. Don't hesitate to ask if you need some guidance on the boss. Good luck!
Hello again! Sorry to bother you again. I think I do need some guidance on the boss. As soon as I reach the green life bar (love the rainbow themed life bars btw), i.e, when the hands of the monsters appear, nothing seems to work, neither physical attacks nor the flux. :(

It's never a bother. You are playing my game, and I'm grateful for that. Some help below...

When the eye on his chest closes you'll need to attack both hands/arms until they go away. Then you can attack his eye again when it reopens.

Good luck! I'd love to hear back from you when you finish.
OMG! I have beaten the boss finally!

I actually thought the hands/arms were part of the boss and thought I wasn't doing it right when I was attacking the hands since its life was not decreasing. How silly of me!

Thank you for all the help and for this wonderful game!

Just started playing this, and in the middle of the second dungeon right now. The puzzle design and mini-games were very good so far, and pretty fun to play/solve. I especially like the mini-games, and their difficulty level seemed well balanced. The non-pixel fighting felt a bit clumsy though, and the story should've expanded on the artifact or the green stuff, instead of transitioning to fetch quests.

I encountered a bug though,at a save point, causing a "RGSS3 stopped working" crash. Edit: I did some testing and it seems to only happen in Grimwood Forest so far. It happens like 50% of the time. Might be something with the moghunter leaves and yanfly save screen.
