"Stories are told of a powerful man who once lived in this very desert. He was a scholar of the magical arts, a warlock, who dedicated his life to studying fire and its destructive powers. But he was not the only one who was called a warlock in these lands ..."

The tale of the two warlocks is known to everyone in the quiet desert village of Kal'Deera -- especially to the children. One of these children, an orphan boy named Naveed, is one day challenged to break into the Desert Warlock's mansion on a dare.

Little did he know that he would become involved in creating an entirely new tale of the two warlocks when he accidentally releases the spirit of the Desert Warlock who had been trapped long ago ...

You take control of the desert boy Naveed in his quest to retrieve the lost and stolen artifacts of the snarky Desert Warlock Ashtad. Explore dangerous lairs, hidden temples and dank caves, examine your surroundings, make use of the advice the people of Kal'Deera can give you and discover the powers of the artifacts you find on your travels to further your progress in the desert around Kal'Deera and uncover the secrets behind the warlocks' legend.

The game will be released in German first, followed by an English translation.

Dungeon Preview: Mirror Grotto

Since we started working on Fata Morgana more actively again, it's time to present some more content. And what better content is there than the dungeons you're going to traverse over the course of the game?

No One Likes to Talk About That Place

To the north of Kal'Deera, there's an abandoned mine. Years ago, it was discovered that a vein of crystals, used for all kinds of purposes, ran right through the mountain ridge to the north of what would later be Kal'Deera. People started settling in the village and the mining begun.

First, things seemed to run smoothly, even though the valuable crystals were deeper inside the mountain than people expected. Even the less valuable crystals could at least be made into jewelry, so no harm was done in digging further.

Then, the miners hit the entrance to a grotto deep down below, with walls covered in exactly the kind of crystal they were looking for. But with these crystals, the madness started. Miners started hearing and seeing things, often deeply personal and unsettling to them. Accidents became more frequent and the morale sunk.

Eventually, after one too many deaths, the mine was given up and the grotto was closed off. No one has ventured into the mine deeper than the first sections since then.

The Mirror Grotto

No one except for our poor protagonist, whose quest leads him right into it. The mirror grotto is one of the dungeons that requires more thought than action, but that doesn't mean you're going to drown in puzzles. (Also, we kept that one for another dungeon.) The maddening effect of the crystals, too, is going to play a role here.

And there will be blobs. Blue, wobbling blobs.

How are the battle, character customization and exploration systems going to be?
Judging from the screenshots it looks a little like Zelda so far.
We decided to cut down the amount of actual battle in the game (makes sense, considering the fact that our protagonist is a noodle-armed teenager). What you will do, however, is using your surroundings and your brains to get around obstacles (move things, use items).

The main items in the game are the artifacts you set out to find, as each of them has a unique power which helps you to get through the dungeons.

And yes, Zelda was a big inspiration for this. ^^

I like the look and premise of the game :)
I get an overhead Prince of Persia vibe from this.

Are tiles 100% custom?

Nope. They're Refmap, but they do contain lots of edits.
Ah. I don't recognize them, probably cause I don't play many games.

So is this going to take a really long time to reach an English release?

We're going by the principle of "it's done when it's done," especially since we've got to overhaul older concepts and need to adapt parts of the game to new scripts. Translation, I think, will actually be the easiest part after all that.
