I've stopped production on this game, so it is now, officially cancelled.

You will need the VX RTP to run this game:
http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages

To install:

First, make a new folder, and call it Tristian: LoTL.
Put the compressed download into that folder as well as the Audio folder and extract like normal with WinRAR or WinZip.
Install the fonts included if you don't have them yet.

Basic Controls:

Apart from the usual arrow/directional keys:

Alt + Enter - Toggle Full Screen mode
Enter/Spacebar/Z/ - Action key
Esc/X - Main Menu/Cancel an interaction
Shift - Sprint
Left Shift + Z = Pull an object towards you ( like a crate or boulder )

out the door

13 days before I am supposed to 'celebrate' being on this site for 7 years, i've decided to leave rmn as well. having grown uncomfortable with the circle-jerkers ( aka the devs whose games get the most attention and all their friends ) and the few rotten apples here, it's simply become an unhealthy place for me to hang around.

while i won't be posting here anymore, i'd like to stay in contact with some of the members here by ways of building an e-mail list ( yes, it's a little different from the usual chatrooms like discord/skype, but i see them as massive timesinks. i never get anything done ) informing subscribers about my future projects. so... if you're interested, drop me a pm and we'll see where the road takes us. the simple gesture would mean a lot to me, because it shows that some of you still care. who knows? maybe you'll get a surprise or two.

maybe.

maybe some of you hate me for broken promises i couldn't keep, maybe some of you lost your respect for me because I couldn't keep doing what I loved to do. or maybe some people just hated on Enelysion because it became popular...

who knows? it doesn't matter anyway.
i'm going to keep on being a creative workaholic.

So long, and keep gaming
i was always too serious for this place, anyway

I don't know if you are ok with them being used by others as long as credit is given, or if you don't want them to be used at all, so you may want to make that known too. I mean Enelysion was unencrypted and you made no secret of the fact you didn't have an issue with anyone seeing what was in it. Some may have read that as you had no problem with people using what was in there for their own projects, too.

That and the fact I've seen your tilesets on some resource sites, so I'll admit I thought you were ok with others using them. Maybe encrypting is your best bet, won't stop everyone but it should hopefully stop most.

Well onto the demo. Love the new graphics and excellent choice of music as always.
Battles were hard without being impossible. (I really don't like it when battles are super easy :/ )

Only thing I noticed was at Avegin castle the archway didn't quite line up. Like so.

Also sometimes the text scrolled a bit too fast and I didn't have time to read it.

But so far it's impressive. Can't wait for the full version.

It's a-me your friendly neighborhood nuisance. I know it's a short demo, but I gave it the full testing treatment. I hope you don't mind.
Let me start by saying that I was completely blown away by the level of polish in the demo. Not only is it gorgeous looking, but the writing feels stronger too. I really think this game is commercial level at this point.
BTW why don't you promote your game online around a little bit? RpgM is getting a lot more respect lately, just look at World's Dawn.
OK, now for the nasty part...

Bugs:
- Reading the message that tells you that the southern exit's the wrong way increases your walk speed.
- The game lagged a little during the opening credits. Maybe it only happened to me?
- Why does casting blessing close the skill menu? It's really annoying when multiple castings are needed.
- Enemies are static unles you walk around them more than once. Doesn't sound intentional...
- Ianna clearly needs to defend every turn, but she can't if the enemy is strong to Tristian's attacks (making you lose a turn), that's alright, it keeps you on your toes. The thing is that you can easily overcome this with no penalty by choosing to move with Ianna first, then Tris.
- You can walk over rivers on the world map!XD
- Found some random crysalis, too. On my first attempt, the one to the northwest of the castle (through the tiny pass), didn't force Tristian to stop, which resulted in the "Crysalis gotten" popup not appearing. I haven't been able to replicate that bug, though.
- The trees at the castle courtyard can be walked through!

Opinions (They're pretty silly, I encourage you to to ignore them, but if you do read them, I apologize beforehand for the nitpickyness :P)
- Remember when the yuri in this game was only an undertone?XD
- "All skill" sounds like silly skillset name, imo.
- Is jp awarded per battle or does it depend on what action is taken? Even though I had both Tristian and Ianna learn jp up, their gains where not nearly close.
- It's a shame the dialogue between Tris and Dante, upon returning to the throne room is optional, it's pretty cool, and many might miss it.
- I assume that all the guards, will have at least one generic line to say if you speak to them in the finished game, right?
- That tiny bridge at the castle's main room looks silly imo. Specially between two sets of carpets.
- I love that this time we can explore some of the castle, it used to feel a little too small.
- Autotext makes it sometimes necessary to scroll back to read what was said (or maybe i'm a slow reader)
- In the balcony scene, the moon looks very white, imo. Maybe it would look better with a slight tint of blue, grey or yellow?
- Speaking of color, on the end titles, the blues of the sky and sea looked a little too similar to me.
@Mirage: I should just let that whole graphics thing slide. I shouldn't let it bother me. If it helps devs make better maps in the long run, then good for them. =) Since it is a pretty tileset, even though I took ages to put everything together.

@Nirwanda: No, I don't mind at all. Rather squash the bugs now than have a whole swarm of them come final release day. I'm glad you felt the game gave off a commercial/professional feel, because I was aiming for that.

About your report:

- Naturally, Tristian is in a hurry after she says that, so she will start 'running' after she makes that painful decision to abandon her men.
- I did experience a bit of lag myself. Maybe it's the paralled process.
- Blessing runs a common event afterwards, that's why. Every time you use it, the spell 'levels up', but I don't know how to keep it in Ianna's Skill menu after she uses it.
- I probably need to fix the way the enemies can 'see' the player then. But sometimes it is good to avoid them from time to time.
- A problem I've been trying to overcome ever since using the PTB version of Battle Engine Melody. I don't want the player to just skip over to the next unit in battle, and it can be abused, especially in that first fight, where Tristian keeps targeting the soldier's weakness' with her Royal Sabre/Liangale Bow. Because then you can just select her over and over...
- Forgot to add a Switch to that particular Crysalis event. ><

Other stuff:

- Yuri is a fully-fledged thing now. :D
- Hey, Orlandu has 'All Swordskill' from FFT. lol
- JP is earned on actions. Using more skills nets you more JP. If Ianna is going to be guarding every turn or so, she ain't going to be gaining a lot of it. Tristian automatically defends her if her HP drops below 50%.
- Yes, it is a nice scene between them, but I am giving the player an incentive to explore. ^^
- You can use the arrow keys to scroll through previously read text.

I don't think it's okay to take stuff without permission, personally. Sure, I'll admit to opening up and exporting resources from other games, but only to study them and see how they were made. I'd never steal them or post them on other sites. So personally, I'm thankful you don't encrypt it, but I would completely understand and respect your choice to encrypt projects if you feel it's necessary.

If you're really okay with the way things are, then that's your choice. However, I'd say you should get loud whenever someone post your resources on other sites without credit (or worse: claiming it as their own), as that's pretty scummy.

Back on topic, I'll probably play the demo sometime today or tonight as soon as I can find some time.
Thing is, with Enelysion and Tristian's old tileset, I didn't own the rights to them, even if I did assemble it, so I can't stop other devs from using it. But I would be pretty damn annoyed if someone took Tristy's new tilesets and put them up on another site without my permission. Let alone using them.

Weren't the portraits in Enelysion done by Ronove? I think that alone would have made it acceptable to encrypt it if either you or Ronove wished it. As for the tilesets, all it takes is a name under the credits section to give people who truly wanted to use them the nudge they needed to seek them out on their own. It gives those artists traffic, which is encouragement to keep creating, and potential creators would have a new source of resources to draw from since most creators have made more then just one specific tileset. Everyone wins.

Again, it's your choice. But if it really bothers you that badly, then encrypt your files. Anyone who cares about this issue will understand your reasoning, and anyone who is pissed at your choice is probably a would-be thief anyway.
I tend to keep my projects unencrypted for a reason though( allows easier patching of possible bugs and such and stops me from uploading the entire game again ). And yes, the portraits for Enelysion were done by Ronove; she did the lineart, I did the colouring, so it was a joint effort.

People will find ways to decrypt game projects if they really want to.

But onto the game, I do look forward to your feedback, Nova. Maybe you could give me some writing tips and I can in turn, give you mapping tips. ^^ 'Tis a fair exchange, no?
I second, Nova's statement, protect your hard work, it's really good and it'll be a shame if people take advantage of it.

About the blessing/ptb thing. I'm pretty sure, you're popular enough here that if you ask directly, someone will step in to help you. You can also ask at RMW, even if it's not your favourite site, you know there are a ton of cool scripters there, right?
For what's it's worth, about the bless bit, Modern Algebra did something to this effect, but only for new scenes apparently, while in this help thread, it was done for script calls. They're both for ACE, but since rggs 2 and 3 are not that different, it might guide your future helper.

- Hey, Orlandu has 'All Swordskill' from FFT. lol
Never finished tactics, though I got far in it. I should probably pick it up and finish it sometime. (Though FFT's engrish is hardly a defense for anything :P)

I feared as much :(

Thanks for the througout reply, and may you have fun a sucess making this game. :)

That sounds quite fair! I'll PM you my feedback once I'm done and we'll go from there.
Sure thing. ^^ Maybe I can take a bit of a break with Tristian now and work on those Enelysion spin-offs...
Welp, Enelysion just broke 4K downloads now. Tristy sure has a mountain to climb once it's completed. XD
Sorry, but I have to ask. The enemies in the forest are overpowered, and do way too much damage. How do I defeat them without dying?
Use either Tristian's Cover ability ( grants immunity from all attacks for the whole party for two turns ) or use Percival's Guardian skill. Also use Tristian's Thunder Halberd against water-based foes ( she'll one-shot them ) and Perc's Swift Axe on the earth-based foes.
Thank you. I was wondering how to fight them :)

Use elemental weaknesses, and take advantage of Percival's ability to cut elemental damage on the party in half. You can change equipment in battle, so if you've found the lightning spear, switching it in when you need to deal lightning damage is very useful.

EDIT: Whoops, I was too late XD;
I ninja'd you, uni. >:D

Hehe, yep :D
So, I set a Target Completion Date for this thing. I am planning to release the full version of Tristy on the 24th of March 2016. It coincides with Enelysion's 5th anniversary on this site too. =)

Holy crap that's awesome! Seeing a final release date on this is pretty out of left field, but that's really exciting!

That's my birthday, too!
Then I'd need to make it extra good, eh, Nova? XD But I will get plenty of testers/proof-readers on hand before the big release day. And finalising a release date actually compels me to finish the game once and for all.
