Time to take my exit.

It was bound to catch up with me in the end. My complete lack of attention ( and the passion that I had three years ago ) to everything RM-related has forced me to drop everything in pursuit of a new hobby, which is writing. Making a game is far too time consuming, and in the end, it is only a handful of people who ever give a damn. I'm not a great game creator and I never will be. I've been keeping these bitter feelings inside me for months ( my absence on RMW being a sign and not bothering to update my GMD there because the site won't even load properly for me anymore ) now, but this is seriously the end of the end.

I've wasted five years of my life ( 2009 - 2014 ) trying to make half-decent games ( granted, Enelysion can still stand as a sort of legacy, but never to be completed ) but in the greater scope of things, I just couldn't care anymore. And no, this post is not fueled by a bad mood or a bad day. I just don't want to RM anymore. Period. I'd rather take my love of world-building and character creation and try to turn out a half-way decent page turner.

I'm not even halfway decent at anything in RMing, to be honest, mapping aside.

So don't try to persuade me to come back. Because I won't.

You didn't waste 5 years. You worked on something you enjoyed doing and probably got writing experience out of. It's completely understandable that you'd leave RM but don't say you wasted your time with it. Things can always be carried over to the next.
You definitely don't suck in any way or form. Lack of attention? To be honest, it feels like everything RM is kind of like that nowadays. IMO, the RM community was WAY more alive and kickin' a couple of years ago.

Anyway, this is quite sad and touching to read, but I understand. If you don't feel like you're achieving anything really, then it probably feels like a "waste of time". Have you ever considered doing CO-projects(team projects,)? I'm starting to realize that time flies and suddenly, I won't have much time on my hands at all for RM. I'm just saying this because RM can be really time consuming at times.

Good luck with the writing though! You will be missed!
I think you're making the right decision. The only reason I want to make a game is just to suppress my "turn every story into an RPG" urge. After that I was to just write books and try to become a published author.

I wish you well, and you should keep in contact with other writers around here. They say the more writers you surround yourself with, the better!

I'm becoming more and more convinced to try and get my boyfriend (whom I met on a RM site) to just stop developing games - which he hardly does anymore - and just write our story into a book form together!
I had this same kind of resolution about six years ago myself, though funnily enough I went from wanting to be a novelist to wanting to mak gam. The idea was that I could reach more people via a continual work-in-progress than I could with a full blown novel that would first have to be written, then actually published.

Of course, I have nothing to show for all the years (yet), whereas you have one of the most popular modern RM games around. It's definitely good that you came, saw, and left behind a legacy. I hope everything goes well for you from here on out.

But I don't believe for a second that you'll actually never return ;D
"She'll be back. They always come back."
Though I am sad to hear this I understand where you are comming from. One of the main reasons I work with RM is I love to create worlds but my lack of writing skill when it comes to the actual writing (not story developement I can do that) keeps me from making my stories into a novel. So if you can make a book out of your story go for it.
This post screams like a desire for people to persuade you that your work wasn't a waste and to stick around.

If you don't want people trying to persuade you to return, you wouldn't explicitly tell them not to. You put a lot of time into your stuff and it did in fact show, so it wasn't a waste; be more confident about your work, unless you want to think writing is a waste too later down the road.

:(

Well - this sucks! You were one of the coolest chicks around…

I hope that you manage to find success in whatever you decide to do from now on, yuna21. And you are not a bad game creator, silly! At least you managed to finish a couple of games during your five year run on here and accomplished quite a lot in that time, a lot more than most people would and ever will do around here.

Maybe one day you’ll decide to come back and scratch that creative itch; but in the meantime, I wish you the best of luck. Godspeed!

Oh, and I still plan to review Enelysion regardless of your sudden retirement announcement, unless you decide to go all “wacky tobacky” on us and take all your game pages down. (Please don’t do that – please?)

You're magical to me.

;_; I'm sad to hear you're going. I want you to know that you've been an inspiration to me since I've gotten on this site! You are a wonderful developer and you'll be missed! And you aren't bad, quite the contrary!
No, I won't take my game pages down. It will remain here. And LoTL is being made into a novella/book form with some drastic changes, so that's not a waste ( I was considering Enelysion, but I figured LoTL's characters were more intriguing ). Maybe one day, I'll write a proper sequel to the game.

Five years is a long time. The communities come and go. While I have come a long way from that Phan game ( Phantasy Star ) that I posted here ages ago ( Oct. 2009, to be exact, the page has long been deleted ), I will still take the skills I got from working on projects.

So yeah, I'm going to shelve RM for a long, long time. I doubt I will come back to it, though ( I can't for the life of me see myself working on a game in my thirties, I'm already 26. Just one of those things ).

But you guys were an awesome crew to be around with regardless. I still have to thank you for your encouragement and support.

Cheers. =)
Best of luck - my dear child - you are only 26 years old - the future holds a lot more in store for you - follow those dreams- do not let anybody take that away from you - I will miss your games -they were great to play so I do wish you well for the future
hmph! There's nothing wrong with RMing in your thirties >:(

Yeah, just take a look at Kentona! Even while raising a kid, he’s still game making in his late adult years and doing a fine job as it is on running this place. Really, I don’t think it should matter so much on how old you are; if you still enjoy doing what you like to do, then who cares, more the power to you!
I wish it was that easy. But deep down inside I've always been a writer ( it was one of the reasons I started RMing, to fuse writing and artistic ability in one ) and tbh, RM is too limited now for my imagination. The stuff that you see in my games... they would be ten times better in a novel form, especially Tristian. A person's imagination can conjure up images far more powerful than any game, if the story is well written ( one of the reasons I enjoy reading more than playing games ).

Tbh, I've only played around five RPGs since 2001. I'm really not a game nut ( like most game devs here are. I'm a bookworm. Always have been, always will be ).

It's been an interesting five years with RM ( going from a rookie game dev that came here with a pretty crappy fan game to where I am now, and I couldn't do it without this community and the old rpgmakervx.net ). So I can at least thank you for giving me that experience ( especially the writing exp. ).

I suppose while I'm taking an exit from RM game making, I'll probably still hang around this forum. You guys are too awesome. =)

I'd like to point out that this is false. The scene ALWAYS seems more kickin' when you are in the thick of it, and always less so when your personal interest wanes. In truth, the RM scene has been rising steadily for years, and it's only recently that it has had a bit of a plateau (which was later broken through after VXAce's Workshop introduction on Steam).

The RM scene is healthier and more vibrant than it's ever been!

Oh yeah, about the subject at hand. I'll see you when you get back, yuna21 (they always come back after the first time they "quit")

Jesus – you have ”two kids,” now? Oh man, I’ve been out of the loop for quite some time, it seems. I remember when you first posted baby pictures of the first one on RMN and now you have two? Well, congrats...I guess.
It's sad to hear that you are puting RM on the shelf :(
I have been in the RM-community for a little over a year now, and you have been one of the big inspirations for me. You are not a bad game developer, and I have enjoyed your games a lot. They have given me a lot of new energy when I lacked motivation to continue on my own project.

I do however understand how you feel, cause I have asked myself the very same questions: 'I have put so much effort into this, but maybe It's just a waste of time?', 'My game is not even turning out ok, and I suck at RM... what's the point?', 'What's the point in puting down so much effort, when the game will probably just be enjoyed by my friends?...' etc, etc.

But as long as you keep working on something that you hold dear to your heart, then It's not a waste of time. Even if people won't like it or it wont be fully finished, It's at least something that you enjoyed doing and learned from.
On the other hand you should not say that you suck at RM, because there are a lot of people (including me) that would love to have your talents. You should be proud of all the hard work you have put down, and if you are indeed walking away now, you should do it with your head held up high.

It might not be much, but you have inspired me at least :)

I wish you all the luck in the future!
One last thing.
