Turn-Based no more.

The battle system is being changed from normal Turn-based to Press-Turn Based.

For those of you familiar with the MegaTen games, this battle system should not be new to you ( even though the mechanics are a lot more simpified. I haven't played the MegaTen games myself, but I know the games use a battle system similar to the one I'm using now ).

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, basically, it can be summed up like this:

Your characters get one action turn per round. Using skills, items etc. uses it up like normal, but if you strike an enemy weakness, use critical hits or hit them with a status effect, you gain an extra turn for your party.

Hit it with Fire!

Once all your turns are up, the enemy party has a go. The same rules apply to them. If they strike a weakness, inflict a status etc., they will gain extra turns as well. Some foes will grant an extra turn to the entire party just by having a certain enemy in the troop party ( normally a tough nut with high defense and resistance. Or one that has high speed and constantly heals the enemy party whilst chucking status effects at your party. Bastards. ><) Getting KO's results in a 4 turn loss, so you have to keep your chars alive.

Course, if Ira/Tristian kicks the bucket, it's Game Over.

So if you've defeated an enemy troop whilst using up all your available turns, the enemy will go first on the next encounter, regardless of your party speed. Not even passive traits like Fast Attack will allow your chars to go first. It is a battle system where smart playing rewards the player and poor planning or execution results in punishment. characters with high critical hits ( 50% + ) are often the key to winning these fights.

So Ira and Trabant end up being lifesavers since their respective classes specialise in critical blows. One turn is all it takes to swing the battle in the player's favour. Or to screw it all up.

That's gotta hurt. Being Burnt in the middle of a Fire-attack is an instant KO...

I'll be releasing a 45 min tech demo that puts the player around the 6 or so hour mark of the game ( cause that's when all the nice stuff starts to show XD ). Should give the player a feel of the new battle system, the transport system ( yay for ferries and later, airships. It works a lot like FF12's system ) and other pretty things to look at. Like my maps, for example. :D

Don't be deceived. This area is nasty with a capital N.

Oh gods, oh gods, I'm going to die. A lot.

...but also, very pretty.
Yeah, that area is merciless. XD But the rest of the game isn't too bad.
I don't know why but I swear you were gonna talk about actual "Battle Mechs" like giant robots. I was thinking to myself, "What does have to do with anything?"
lol, sorry. It was just short for battle mechanics. XD

I also came expecting giant robots and was very confused.
Well, as long it plays out pretty fair and balanced I can’t really complain. The original demo was a bit brutal I remember in terms of difficulty, but it was beatable and I think most of the problems were due to some of the overall design decisions at the time and some of the balancing issues of some of the characters. I don’t know if I like the whole “If Ira/Tristian gets owned U LOSE FOO’ (ie: the Banon situation),” as one lucky strike from the enemy will be the difference between hanging around for a little while longer or seeing the game over screen, but I suppose it makes sense seeing how they are the main characters in the story and having them fall in combat would probably not be a good idea (especially for morale).

Either way, it shall be interesting to see how all of this will play out in the end, as it looks like there’s way more strategy to everything this time around than before.

You never know, Sailerius, perhaps the title of this blog is secretly hinting at a secret boss battle involving giant mechazoids and Tristian riding around in one of those giant mechazoids, sporting green hair and all. :)
Don't worry, I'll test the thing to the ground before I release a tech demo. XD If some of you want to be a tester, bump me a PM.

Edit: Only caught the FF6 reference now, Addit. Epic fail. >< I would so do it if the game was set in a steampunk world, though.

That little guide should help out players. :3

And here I thought that you were a gaming connoisseur. *tsk tsk*
