Progress! Progress!

So maybe they're just graphical stuff ( since it's my favourite part of game design, making things looks pretty ) but I have to pat myself on the back, since Tristian is looking preeety awesome so far. ^^ ( I rarely congratulate myself ). Gameplay wise, well. I played the game for 1.5 hours straight yesterday without encountering any nasty bugs, so that's a good thing, right?

I had to stop since my arm started to ache. >< But it's really starting to feel like a good 'ol JRPG romp ( even if the main characters are older than the average and generic 15/16 year-old MALE hero ). The youngest char is Lance, at 18.

Anyway, pretty screenies ( and super adorable chibi sprites ).

I've been working on the sprite emotion sets now. Daaaaw, they are so cute!!!

Connaught's magic users like natural looking environments, so finding trees in the main palace ain't so strange. They like natural light, too.

As one of the sages puts it: "We are deeply attuned to nature, so the more natural our environment looks, the stronger our chakras or channelling power. Which we need to cast magic."

Oh, and 7 hour mark. The party ( read Tristian ) will probably be reunited with Ianna around the 8-9 hour mark. Then things get REAL interesting ( concerning their er.. relationship, that is. )

And I need some ideas for Darcy's Thief class, apart from the usual Steal command. The class really doesn't make a good fighter class, but I suppose because of Darcy's SPD stat, I could turn her into a support unit or something... Then again, the MegaTen nature of the battle-system means the SPD stat isn't as important as it is for the default Turn-based system... Hmmm... Maybe she can... STEAL enemy HP and MP, lol.

Don't freak out, Dante... Yeesh. I simply love how their facesets matches the sprite-style so perfectly. Yeah, I'm keeping the FE edits this time round.

And gotta love Fire Emblem hacks too. You should recognise that the sword here is the same sword chibi Tristian is hefting. XD )

I assume you mean you are looking for thief skills within the battles rather than the game in general? If so I'd add stealth attacks, thieves after all are a sneaky lot that stick to the shadows. Not sure I'd go as far a a back-stab or the like, unless Darcy is a thief with a side order of assassin, in which case then it's perfectly justified (as would an attack that ignores defence, as assassins generally only get one shot and they have to make it count). As well as poison, smoke-screen (blind), and maybe a disappear skill, which makes Darcy hard to hit but prevents any action other than supportive towards the party, anything offensive and the disappear, well, disappears. I may be bordering on ninja skills here, but the overlap is somewhat expected.

Perhaps a scan ability as well, if you want to incorporate that dynamic, after all thieves need to be able to read their marks if they are pick-pockets, or they case a job and observe routines if they are burglars. Both of which requires a keen eye and the ability to analyse detail.

Of course if Darcy is a little less sophisticated and is basically a bit of a thug then you could have a mug skill which would equate to a stun and/or bleed attack.

Oh and unrelated to the above, I'm adoring the hell out of that black porcupine armoured man, the purple scarf is just icing on the cup-cake of happy.
You could focus more on support then fighting. She could inflict numerous states on enemies. Buff the players, etc.

And for her fighting skills, keep them weaker, but again able to inflict negative states such as bleed.

Maybe do some trap attacks? For example Darcy uses an explosive trap, one or two turns later it goes off dealing damage to the enemy.
@nhubi: That's the Big Bad for you. XD So he has to look pretty intimidating, lol.

Yeah, physically, Darcy is a rather weak character strength-wise, so I wouldn't focus on giving her the usual skills based off the PWR/ATK stat. And let's face it, I already have Trabant and Ira/Tristian for damage. And Dante too. XD

I suppose Darcy could also have some skills that gives the whole party and extra turn for attacks/skills. Speaking of which, I really need to reduce the number of equipment granting extra turns. Or I need to up the enemy's Evade.

Evade > Speed now.

Those are some neat ideas for thief skills. Thanks, guys. ( I don't play a lot of RPGs, tbh, and almost never use Thieves/Ninjas for some reason >< )

Oh, Tristian, you sly dog, you. I always knew that there was something "quite secretive" going on between those two.

Why do I have this reoccurring image in my head of Darcy tickling the enemies with a portable feather duster or having Trubant launching her towards the enemy using his incredible strength as some sort of a duel technique.

(Trubant looks down towards Darcy.)
Darcy: "…W…What are you –“

“AIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!”

“126 Points Of Damage!”
“Critical Hit!”

Darcy: "Ow... Next time warn me before you do that, 'kay?"
^ Yes, it is pretty subtle relationship, but I think most players missed it. XD

And Darcy is the most amusing character in the game. I'd imagine her skillset would have to be quite hilarious. Since she is intentionally designed as Tristian's foil.
Thief skills, without crossing over into assassin skill territory, huh?

*Alertness - Passive skill that prevents enemies from surprising/ambushing the party
*Close Call - Passive skill that has a chance of auto-reviving her if she runs out of LP (HP?)

*Diversion - Lower enemy turns by 1 (not cumulative)
*Lurk - Raise her own EVA by a lot
*Provoke - Inflicts Berserk
*Gank Weapon - High level skill that "steals" an enemy's weapon, dumping their ATK to near zero.

Since Darcy is the leader of a rebel group and not just some derpy thief, I assume she's pretty resourceful and may have a handful of tricks up her sleeve, Lupin III style.

*Powder Pouch - Thrown into the enemy's eyes, inflicts Blind
*Poison Dart - Token thief skill. Inflicts poison.
*Smoke Bomb - Another token thief skill. Instantly escapes battle, or raises party's EVA
*Caltrops - Lowers enemy SPD and/or EVA
*Antivenom - Cures poison. Handy in case the thief poisons herself by accident x_X
*Slip Needle - Thin, bendable needle that can easily slide into armor joints. Lowers DEF or does damage that ignores it.
*Napalm (or Hot Oil) - Fire damage and inflicts Burning
*Fouling Gas - Instant death or high damage to incorporeal enemies, like those Entites
*Animal Call - Inflict Charm on wildlife enemy types
*Portable Feather Duster - Inflicts Stun and Confound

I noticed it too, but I didn't think this game would go in a yuri direction ;D
Those ideas are awesome, Dy. Thanks a lot ( if only I knew how to implement Close Call ><. That sort of like Life 3 from FF6, isn't it? ).

But the other skill suggestions had me in stitches. Lol, Animal Call. I can only imagine her making a baboon call.

Actually the one I adored was Portable Feather Duster, just for the graphic & sound that would have to accompany the attack.

Personally I think "Gank Weapon" is a keeper, if only for the name.

Yeah, I had something similiar to Life 3 in mind, but without having to cast it beforehand. With me not being familiar with VX, I don't know how to implement it either :p
^Yeah, I'd have to look at the Battle Engine Melody Script for VX to see what kind of skills I can implement ( the first 3 parts out of the 5-part script. Lucky I'm so familiar with it now XD ).

I do know that I can't create skills that will cause the enemy party to lose turns through player skills, so I rather gave Darcy a skill called 'Advantage', which does the opposite ( party gains one extra turn ). Everything else save Close Call can easily be done. I don't want to give them too many skills either ( maybe 8 max skills per char ), but that I'll save for another blog post. =)
