Character Gameplay Showcase: Callox Pallisade

Hey guys! I'd like to start introducing some more gameplay tidbits of Chronology, but this time I'd like to focus on the characters, something admittedly I haven't done too much on! I'd like to change that and to give a more complete picture of my game before its release this year. In doing so, I hope to give you guys a better understanding of what's to come. Basically, I showcase a small sampling of each of the playable characters, and what they have to offer gameplay wise, what type of battler they are, and what they contribute to the party. For a better understanding of my battle system, let me direct you a previous blog post on it, here.

Let's start this off with the main character, Callox Pallisade, Imperial Knight of the Judec Empire.

Imperial Knights, the elite officer class of the Imperial Army are rigorously selected from talented applicants (or especially meritorious Imperial Army enlisted troops) and trained within Gallia Academy, near the Imperial Capital. Imperial Knights are trained to both excel in individual combat, and engaging multiple foes, and they are also drilled in tactics to support their allies, whether its their fellow Knights or ordering enlisted subordinates. While not magicians (although some Imperial Knights are talented mages), they are also taught basic magic.

Callox stats and skills reflect this well roundedness, as he is able to battle alone or in a group, and has many options to ensure victory. Being the main character (and thus the character the player will see the most of), I figured it prudent to equip his Virtue Tree with a wide variety of different passive and active skills. While primarily a physical oriented character, the player will get a significant array of magic and physical abilities to craft a 'build' with Callox.

In addition, early in the story he gains the abilities of the 'Animus', which adds an extra layer to his repertoire...

Callox excels in Swordplay, Spellblade, and his mysterious Animus abilities. Swordplay moves are mostly focused on physical abilities and party support, Spellblade is focused on martial magic and support, and Animus abilities are a true mixed bag with a diverse pool of abilities.

As mentioned above, Callox primarily trusts his sword in battle, so he has many physical oriented skills to overwhelm his opponents with his considerable talent at swordsmanship. His skills have high utility and do reliable damage.

Whether its his Imperial Knight training or his mysterious 'Animus' powers, he dabbles in magic as well. While he doesn't have the pure magical ability of Dais Kruetz, he is able to scratch the surface of his Animus abilities, as you can see here as he crushes a foe with Red Lance, a Fire elemental magic ability that does even what Dais can't with his fireballs; burn away two turns of a Defense Buff.

The ability to lead and support allies is a core tenet of Imperial Knight training, and Callox has many abilties that enhance the abilities of the party, even at his own peril. Here, a particularly powerful move, 'Embolden', shaves away a turn from all party members Cooldown on their abilities, except for Callox himself.

Thanks for reading! I hope you've got a better idea of what at least Callox can do, and there's more to come! More characters are next!

It was really a hard choice for me to make the switch, at first. But the engine is very, very powerful.
