Skies? We're underground...

Zephyr Skies 2 is the sequel to Zephyr Skies and also an entry in this years Halloween contest. It is a fun and easy to get into Rogue like.

Story
We get a bit of back story, to our mission etc, then a bit of dialogue every few floors. Story has never been the biggest part of a rogue like and Zephyr Skies is no exception.

Graphics
All custom and fairly cute. It's the visual effects though that make this game gorgeous. From the lighting effects to the distortion near the end of the game. The game is pure eye candy from start to finish.

Gameplay
I haven't played many rogue likes so a bit more in the way of instructions would have been appreciated but I feel I understand the mechanics that initially confused me now that I've played the game through. You move around 13 floors looking for the correct stairs down while killing enemies and gathering various items of loot. My only issue was that during the final boss battle the game unexpectedly closed on me! It happened at the same time as an application nagged me so I don't know if the two events were related or not. Anyway the gameplay itself was very solid and enjoyable, if you're completely unfamiliar with rogue likes then you attack enemies by walking into them or by using a skill and it's the same for enemies when they hurt you. The final boss did offer a nice twist but I don't want to spoil it, either play for yourself or watch the video to see it.

The game uses a class system, it offers you a choice of 4 randomly chosen classes when you start a new game, personally I didn't like the randomness involved I would have preferred to choose my class from the full selection.

Et cetera
The game is only about half an hour long so I would fully recommend that you download it and give it a go or two. I might even have another go when I've finished judging!

Here's my playthrough:

Thanks for the review! We had fun making it so I'm glad you had fun playing it!
(Also for whatever reason I can't see your playthrough video at all. This might just be me however) I am a moron
Thanks for the review. That's a very unfortunate (and ironic) place for the game to be interrupted. Luckily we have a recording of the end cutscene. It may not make sense unless you spend exactly 11 seconds on the main page though.

(starts at 1:08, for some reason embed isn't keeping the time arg)

I'm glad the project was enjoyable as a game even without its meta-aspects.
Thanks for that, I would have eventually replayed but only after I've finisehed all the other games. Now I'm both more and less confused if that's possible?

So I take it all those expeditions ended up somehow colliding despite being at different times and places?
