Hit and run

This is probably the easiest and the shortest game, and it could benefit from a lot of improvements. Since this is the developer’s first game, despite the obvious lack of quality it can serve like a useful experience in the further game making.

Storyline

The story is very short and simple. Four campers get attacked by the spiders and they need to run away. Along the way nothing happens, there are almost no dialogues, and those which exist are very short and they give us almost no info. The idea itself is good, but not set in motion properly. Adding some things like the characters being killed (or abducted) randomly, or the explanation why the spiders are attacking can help the story.

Characters

We have four characters which all appear the same, because the player knows nothing about them.

Battle System

Since this game is battle based, I expected to at least see something challenging. The battles are quite frequent but not challenging, as the strategy is not required. The player simply has to attack to proceed. Maybe making some of the spiders less, and some more powerful, can provide a greater challenge.

Graphics

The graphics are nothing special. There is a suitable title screen, but that is all. The forest map is almost empty and the menu is weird, with half of the text options erased. There is also one thing I don’t understand. VX Ace has the facesets, so why are the characters’ walking graphics in the menu instead of their faces?

Random things I disliked

Undeveloped plot.
There is just one dialogue in the game.
Lack of information about the characters.
Too much easy battles.
Weird menu.
Lack of things the player can interact with.

Random things I liked

The title screen.

Overall thoughts

A short, battle-centered game in which your only task is to attack and run.

Thanks very much for the review. I'll take the points you made on board. I did rush this game to get it finished before the Halloween deadline. With regards to the dialogue I wanted to keep it simple because characters would be dropping down dead and I didn't want to have dialogue with anybody not in the party.
I took the decision to use the actor's walking graphic instead of the facesets just to try something a little different.
I wasn't 100% happy with this game but I will definitely improve on my next attempt. Thanks for the feed back!
You're welcome. I understand it was pretty hard for you to complete everything before the deadline, mainly because it's your first game. Besides, it didn't have any bugs, which is good.
As for the graphics, I find it weird, but it is good to try out new things.
