Subject yourself to this game

Subject is a short text adventure game developed by Indrah and Mareemo for the All Hallow's Event. It was impressively made in less than 2 days and features 8 endings.

The game starts off in a small darkly lit room. You find yourself on the bed surrounded by bandages with little explanation. You're soon provided with some of the usual text-adventure options: Look, Listen, Smell and Move. When you approach the mirror in the room you see you're covered in bandages. Why? You don't know.

Soon after exhausting the options you find yourself in a corridor with your first real choice: the red or blue door. An appropriate distinction I might add as your actions in each room will have an impact on later choices.

You'll be given your first save prompt before you make a choice. Prompts are used repeatedly throughout the game when you have to make a choice that will impact the outcome of the narrative. I like this feature since it allows you to quickly explore other avenues instead of having to start all the way from the beginning again.

And in this game, discovering all the different endings is most of the fun! It doesn't take longer than a few minutes to discover one of the initial endings, but it sets up enough intrigue to have you load your last save and explore other options. As you get more endings, you'll start to build a bigger picture of the overall plot. As expected, the last 2 endings provide the most explanation but I felt obliged to get all 8.

Of course, it wouldn't be much of a text-adventure game if it wasn't well written. I think this is one of its strongest points. Not just the text itself but the way it is presented throughout the game is really finely executed. You'll want to exhaust every option just to see what happens and I think that speaks for a finely crafted adventure.

Visuals and audio are also top notch in creating a dark atmosphere that immerses you in the game. The monochrome style works well in making a dark game feel even darker.

I'm not a huge fan of text adventure games but I enjoyed this one. Perhaps because of its brevity. If you're interested, you should check it out. It probably won't take you longer than 20 minutes to discover all the endings but it's well worth it.

Thanks for your kind words ;A;
It's the first "official" feedback I get from someone (who isn't a direct friend, that doesnt QUITE count the same XD).

Glad I was able to pull the writing to a satisfactory level. Towards the end of the crunch I wasn't too sure OTL

If I have one regret is that I wasn't able to flesh the game out a bit. Oh well, as an experience it was...an experience (that came out badly)

Aww thank you for that lovely and positive review! <3 It makes those extreme crunch hours of pushing out a game last minute worth every second! (Poor Indrah was so frazzled towards the end!) I'm glad to see you were able to enjoy it.~ <333
