Happy October, RMN!

It feels like, regardless of the fact that game progress has been slow on account of me working on the same freaking location (Lenadia Castle) for going on two weeks now, the game's received a slew of improvements. So while the game isn't being extended in length much at the moment, a lot of changes are being made to make the overall experience better overall for you guys.

So, here's what has been going on in the last week or so!

1. NO MORE DEMOS
Blackmoon Prophecy II will have no further demos because I do not want people to know too much of the game or its story prior to when the game is completed sometime in 2015. I will, however, do big monthly news round-ups detailing all major additions/changes to the game. This will start on November 1. Internal testing will continue as I crack my whip and force Brandon Griggs and Thomas Stout to find balance issues, bugs/glitches, typos, etc. I’m totally open to taking on another tester or two as well if anyone out there is interested, but please do not express an interest if you only intend on testing for an hour every week or two. If interested, send me a message over RMN or contact me on Skype (username is powerfultoaster).

2. VICTORY FANFARE
Brandon has composed some victory fanfare for the game. It's standard Final Fantasy fare in the same vein as the first six games. It's nice to hear an original fanfare theme play after an original battle theme!

3. PAUSING ATB BAR FIX
A solution to the ATB bars temporarily pausing after characters would act was given to me by RydiaMist. No more weird pauses and delays as your ATB bars stay empty for a second anymore!

4. TANKENTAI BUGS SQUISHED
More bugs in the Tankentai battle system have been eliminated. Again, I have RydiaMist to thank for this!

5. STATUS CONDITION COLOURS
Characters will now flash/tint different colours based on the status condition they've been afflicted with. Hasted characters will flash a pinkish red, characters with the flu are tinted blue, etc.

6. ATB READY/TURN INDICATORS
When a character's ATB fills, a little sound effect will play and an arrow will appear over their head. Their name will also light up to signify that it is their turn. This little addition has added an even greater Final Fantasy feel to the battle system. Who do I have to thank for this? Yes, RydiaMist again! He/she is tremendously helpful and has given me some awesome Tankentai changes/fixes in the past week.

7. THE ARENA
I was going to hold off on making this until much later so that I could get teh balance right, but I decided to go ahead and add it in now. The Arena, which is connected to Mystic Mysidia and can be accessed from the town or the world map, has a design that is strongly based on the Colosseum in FF6. In terms of how the Arena functions, lots of inspiration was taken from FF7's Battle Square. The area of the Arena you fight in is called the Battle Square, the same music plays from FF7, and the party runs into a square area where they engage an invisible enemy party just like in FF7. There are also battle modifiers at the start of each battle. Battles are also randomly determined and get more difficult as the player progresses. The player can progress until they either lose or choose to stand down and exit.

8. WORLD MAP LOCATION BLIPS/DOTS
Locations on the world map can now be toggled on/off on the mini-map. To do this, simply use the world map controller. The item now toggles both the map and the blips on and off. I don't have an image of this at the moment, but I was watching Thomas Stout testing it over a Skype call and he was very positive about it. As he said, "now I can see where I'm going."

9. X-MAGIC COMMAND
To prevent clutter and endless scrolling later in the game, X-Magic is now its own command for Carina and Hautley. The only other character who learns X-Magic, Bolt, does not have an X-Magic command. His versions of the X-Aero spells will appear in his magic menu.

Here are some random screenshots and videos that are not currently on RMN.

Also here is an FF5 edit just because.

Yay for progress! I'm really happy to have been helpful! Though just a note to anyone watching the ATB changes video: The overhead cursor's behavior has been fixed and it now disappears at the start of actions, so it looks a lot nicer~

I've also fixed up a few more ATB issues that UPRC found, like being unable to run away from Back Attacks. Also, Pre-emptive and Back Attacks now have the expected effects on the ATB of characters and enemies.

Again, thanks to UPRC for letting me help out!

Exciting, but ultimately pointless.

Pft, thank YOU for offering to help! How I have Tankentai running now compared to when I started the game is crazy. The difference is night and day!
Do you still need help with maps? I got your tiles before, but I had some trouble using them(mostly because there were millions of grass/cliff tiles that looked the same, but had different purposes).
I'm certain that I could figure them out somehow if I just tried hard enough.

All in all, can't wait to hear more from this projects! Good luck on what's left of the game!
These sound pretty awesome. Especially glad to hear the ATB bar is fixed!

Nah, I've made a lot of progress since I made that blog post. I appreciate the offer though!
