QUESTION TIME.

Hi guys.

So I changed the status of this game from hiatus back to production. Things still aren't 100% for me and a lot of my time is focused on fixing some real life issues, BUT I am going to try to work on the game when I'm able to.

First on my agenda is to just replay the game from start to finish again. There were some issues reported with the last download by some people, and I don't know how many of them may have potentially impeded players from reaching the end of the download. My personal tests, and that of Thomas Stout who has been immensely helpful in testing (as I watch him test over Skype, which I think all devs should do as it beats getting testing reports SO MUCH), have not had any severe game halting issues like some of what I heard of back in May. I didn't have time to address them, but I'll be doing so now that I'm playing through the game again.

Anyway, I'm trying to optimize things and generally fix anything I happen upon that I don't like or seems incorrect. I've already fixed several issues relating to events and items, and I merged some parallel process events since supposedly VX Ace sucks at handling a few of those at once.

The big thing that I want to know, and the reason for this blog post being called Question Time, is because I want to know how those who have played the game feel about the Mode 7 scripts. How would you describe the Mode 7 effect in the game? Does it increase immersion or detract from it? Does the world map run smoothly, or is it choppy and prone to stuttering? I've never had any major issues with it myself unless I have several applications running when I play the game, which makes it seem like the Mode 7 script might be pretty memory intensive. Since I'm not just making the game for myself, but for you guys too, I want to make sure that it at least runs well.

So, any feedback on the Mode 7 scripts would be awesome! I don't expect there to be any progress on the game in terms of new content in the next little while, but I'm working on getting there.

Mode 7 is good for me because it gives a good FF6 feel to the game(I think that was intended). So, in my case, it adds to immersion.
I have a decent laptop, so I never had any performance issues on the world map. But i have yet to complete the newest demo, so if I find mode 7 problem, I'll edit the post to say it.
I had a few slowdown issues on the map, along with some crashing even with the fix. It didn't bug me a whole lot, but it's there.

Wondering if the pre-boss event on Mt. Houzell has been fixed? I'm still unable to get past this game since the game locks.

There should be a fix for that on the last (or second last) page of comments on the main game page. Not sure how/why that even happened since myself and testers passed through without issue, but it was reported to fix it for at least one person.
I like the mode 7, and with the fix I PMed you it shouldn't crash anymore. I don't think the lag on the map is caused by mode 7. In my own game, people were experiencing a lot of world map lag, especially on weaker PCs, and my solution was some very aggressive anti-lag. If you'd like my script I have settings that worked really well.

I also feel that aesthetically the mode 7 is kind of needed, since FF6's world map tileset was basically made with it in mind, and stuff looks kinda weird to me without it, like the trees and mountains are at odd angles.

Anti-lag script? Sounds good to me! I already combined all parallel events on the world map into a single event, so that should help a little as well in terms of what the engine is trying to process when the player is roaming the world map.

If the anti-lag script is that effective, maybe I'll use Mode 7 in the remake of the first game, too.
Hmm, I saw a fix for Mt. Zahg door on the comments page, but not the Mt. Houzell event.

What happened in Mount Houzell?
When I enter the boss room on top of the mountain, the event starts with the music and my character stepping forward. Then, instead of progressing the event immediately restarts. Music restarts and main character moves forward. Infinite loop and the game locks up. I wish I could provide an image but I'm having issues with saving pictures on my PC right now.

Hmm... what character do you have leading the party?
Spoilers...
Well it was Cid. I changed the character to someone else (Trigger) and the game progressed normally. Thanks. Now I understand why I may be the only one who could have encountered this problem.

OH! Cid is still in the party at that point? I'll have to address that then. There is different dialogue depending on who is in the lead, and I never wrote any for Cid since I totally forgot that he rejoins the party again for a little bit.
