Hey everyone. Hope you're doing well. The past two weeks have seen me work my butt off in designing the characters for the Adult Arc. I've been drawing, erasing, redrawing, erasing again, smashing random objects in frustration relaxing with a cup of tea when I get irked by the lack of progress. Today, I finally have something to show you. These are the concept art for each of the party members you will be controlling. I'm posting them here instead of on the images page because these are just CONCEPT images. They still require some tweaking before I'll call them done. Alright, here we go:

In Soul Sunder, you will have a three-man party. The first member needs no introduction:

This is the main character, Zero. She's a martial artist whose role in the party is the damage dealer. I designed her to look like a typical martial artist, then tried to rough up her outfit a bit to make her look more travel-hardened. As a warrior who fights with her fists, Zero can equip a different fist weapon on each hand, giving her a wide variety of Drives to chose from. Her fist weapons will inflict Strike damage, the first of the three physical elements.
Some of you may have noticed something different about Zero since the last time you saw her. Zero now carries a backpack with her. As this is a survival RPG,I wanted all the characters to have packs. It helps give the impression that each character is more of a survivor than a hero. There will be scenes when the characters are without packs, usually when you decide to make camp for the night (More on that in a later post!)

This is Isaac West. He will be the first to join the party. Isaac is a thief by trade, so he is not really capable of doing lots of damage, like Zero. However, he more than makes up for it with his unrivaled speed and debilitating drives that can inflict status effects. Because he is capable of stealing lots of items, Isaac has many many pockets in which to store items in. Use Isaac for your utility purposes, as he can cover a wide range of uses. Isaac's primary weapons are knives, which inflict Slash damage, the second of the three physical elements.
Note the red tattoo on his arm. Isaac has a unique ability to use blood magic by cutting his arm at that tattoo. By sacrificing some of his HP, he can use incredibly powerful magic depending on what Catalyst he has equipped at the time.. It's a high cost, especially since healing items will be hard to come by. But if the benefits outweigh the cost, it's a worthy addition to his arsenal. But how did he come to get that tattoo in the first place? Is it related to his blood red eye? Find out when you play the game!

And now for the final member. Returning from the Childhood Arc, we have:

Myra Whitewind!
Events of the Childhood Arc has robbed Myra of the use of her legs (Oh come on, that's not a spoiler! It was given away in the first sentence of the first paragraph on the first page of the game!), and therefore has real trouble getting around. But Myra has proven to be handy with building materials, and has built an all-terrain wheelchair to help her get around. Her affinity for construction is more than just a staple point for her character. Once you get Myra into your party, speak to her when you set up camp, and she'll be able to fashion items and equipment from materials you've collected in Purgatory. She doesn't really have to worry as much about weight as the others, and can afford to hold even more items than Isaac does.

Myra brings a bow into battle. Her arrows can inflict Pierce damage, the final physical element. But you can swap out her arrows with ones that inflict fire, ice, etc. as the situation demands, making her the most useful at exploiting enemy elemental weaknesses. She is well in tune with the forces of magic, so she would probably get the most use out of magical items and spells you may have. The downside is that she has an almost complete lack of speed and flexibility. Her wheelchair, while very helpful, has plenty of drawbacks. Myra has almost zero evasion, and her frail constitution means she doesn't have a lot of health. But as she has many functions for battle, she is still a worthy addition to the party.

And that's it! These are the party members that you will control over the course of the adventure. I haven't quite finalized their faces yet. But when I do, I'll make sure to add them to the Character list page. I also didn't talk much about their personalities, as I feel it could give too much away, especially when development is as early as where I am now.

Some of you may have noticed that I didn't do a lot of shading around the outsides of the bodies. That is because when you see these pictures, a lot of the outside parts will be cropped, so you can't see them in the first place. Here's how they look in the Pause Menu:

Anyway, that's what I've got for you now. I've been slowly chugging along at making the intro and first part of Purgatory. Now that I've got these done, I'll put away art for the time being and focus on making Purgatory. Thanks for reading this (rather lengthy) post. As always, any feedback is appreciated. See ya!

Wow, awesome! I think this is the first time I've seen a wheelchair user as an RPG party member, not to mention a thief who wears glasses :D

These characters seem really interesting! Can't wait to see how their stories develop!

Thanks! I never saw a wheelchair bound party member in an RPG either, so I wanted to fix that.

Maybe just a nitpick, but it would be damn near physically impossible to use a bow and arrow from a wheelchair.
A crossbow, on the other hand, makes perfect sense. She could even have a reloading mechanism built in.

Believe it or not, I've actually shot a bow from a wheelchair before. At a Disabilities Awareness event in a campout back when I was still in Boy Scouts, there was a Wheelchair Archery event. I learned at that event that there is actually a professional Wheelchair Archery sport! As long as you turn your body 90 degrees to the side, shooting a bow from a wheelchair actually isn't that hard.

It's certainly not convenient, and you won't be pulling off Robin Hood-esque moves anytime soon. But it is definintely possible. Just Google wheelchair archery, and you'll see what I mean.
oooh :o You learn something new every day.
Myra has all the badass potential right now.
