We're halfway there, and I'm not slowing down!

Hey, how are you doing?

So you may remember in my last blog that I went... more than a little crazy on game making. It was a nasty episode, you see. I suffered from Gam Mak withdrawal, so I overdosed and completed most of the 2nd Stratum in a day, as well as redesigned Arya. Well, you'll be happy to know that I have since recovered from that psychotic episode. I had an intervention, went to rehab, was given medication, and slowly but surely I got my life back together again.

Every now and then I get those urges to work for 8 hours straight. But I have to learn to ignore them and continue working at a steady pace. But I can hear them whispering... taunting me... "Come, Red_Nova. Put away your summer schoolwork and open up RPG Maker... you know you want to..."

So if you haven't hit the back button yet, thank you. I promise I'm not actually insane. At least I think so.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you an update so here it is: After polishing the second Stratum and sending it to unity for testing (Thank you again, by the way!), I can now sit back and say that the second Stratum is completed.

You know what that means? It means that, counting the Childhood Arc, Soul Sunder is now at the 50% completion mark! Yay! Release the balloons! Oh wait, you already knew that if you read the title.... Nevermind.

You may not believe this, but I actually starting working on this game about a year ago. Most of that time went into planning and preparation, figuring out how this game would work and the characters and all that fun stuff. I know the demo doesn't really look like a year's worth of time went into it, but I was learning how VX Ace worked, and I've never really drawn much on a computer before, so yeah. It doesn't look that good.

Okay, with sentiments out of the way, here's my plan from here on out:

I plan on doing a graphical overhaul of all the characters. I just finished redoing the Childhood Arc portraits, and I plan to redraw the faces for them too. Here's what I've got so far:

Arya:

Alex:

Myra:

What do you think? Certainly better than the original art, that's for sure. Take a look at them all if you don't believe me. Go ahead, I'll wait. When the next part is released, I'll update all these images to reflect the new art. I'm thinking about redoing all the art from the Adult Arc as well. But I'm a lot happier with that than with the Childhood Arc art. So I may not do that until after the next part.

Speaking of the next part, I will complete the third Stratum of Purgatory first before I release a new demo. The feedback from everyone is wonderful, and I want to do that one more time before releasing the finished product.

And that will be the last demo I release before finishing the game. Thankfully, I know EXACTLY what I want to do with it. How it ends, how it progresses from Stratum to Stratum, everything. These last few months have seen me really stumbling around, going, "What if I do this here? No, rather, how about this here?"

Yeah. That part is done. I've got it all planned out. I just need to do it.

I've noticed that my blogs tend to be long-winded compared to other blogs on this site. I'll go ahead and let you go before you guys start to get bored. If you read this to the end, thank you! See ya!

Thanks! I can always count on you to be the first one to post!

Also, for everyone: I'll leave a little challenge for you guys. I haven't gotten any feedback from anyone about it, so I'll assume no one has found it yet. Arya has a secret weapon you can find: the Frying Pan. It's much stronger than the Wooden Plank.

The first person to find it and PM me the location gets... uh... special recognition!

The character graphics certainly look cleaner. Also, I've been meaning to pick this game back up after the blog about bombs you made a while back. Though, to be honest, I haven't actually gotten around to it.

*Edit: 'Til now, that is.

I love how Alex is wearing overalls and a tie. It's a revolutionary fashion statement.

Never! I will never give in. You have failed, emperor. I am... uh... not creative...
That sounded a lot cooler in my head a moment ago...

Apparently I was more right than I thought. I wasn't creative enough to be able to clearly define a shirt with a simple red streak down the middle, and NOT a tie... whoops.
