On difficulty, items, and a possible walkthrough.

So I've gotten, uh, more than a few complaints about the lack of items found in the game. Specifically, the lack of items in the Childhood Arc. I'm not gonna lie: I still don't believe I didn't give the player enough items. What began as an (admittedly arrogant) assumption that players didn't look hard enough quickly became the fear that the items are too obscure.

It's more than just the items, you know. I realized as I was developing that I did a lot of things wrong with the Childhood Arc. The biggest offender was how HARD it was. I mean, it was supposed to be the hook that draws players in! The let you learn the mechanics on your own with as little hand-holding as possible! You don't learn nearly as much if you make one small mistake and get destroyed because of it!

With that in mind, there are two things I want you to be aware of concerning the next update:

1: Orias will be expanded with more areas to go into and more items to find. Remember all those homes that you couldn't go into because Arya thought it would be rude? Well, the craving for more candy has driven Arya to desperate measure, and she doesn't care anymore. Now you can go into those homes and find more NPCs and items! Arya's on the hunt for candy, and personal privacy of other people's houses no longer applies!

2: The enemies will be SLIGHTLY easier. SLIGHTLY less HP, and SLIGHTLY less defense. Also, the enemy placements will be changed around a bit to have the easier enemy troops attack first so you can get a handle on the battle mechanics a bit better.

This should turn off fewer players to the rest of the game. I mean, seriously, the Childhood Arc is much harder than the Adult Arc. I know that the characters are children, and monsters should be more than capable of destroying children, but there's a line between challenging and fun that I feel like the Childhood Arc may have crossed a little bit. Don't get me wrong, it'll still be challenging. The base strategies are unchanged, and simply mashing attack will still get you killed. But the Childhood Arc is going to be a little more forgiving with its difficulty this time, and you should feel a bit better in learning the mechanics of the game.

Now, this is all well and good, but there are still plenty of items that I haven't gotten any feedback about getting. Have you found Arya's Frying Pan? Or Alex's Hero's Headband? If neither of these items seem familiar, then you might want to read on:

I'm thinking about making a walkthrough for the game. It'll point out a lot of things that you may have missed, and would make your experience that much more fun. Is this something you would want to have? Please let me know.

As always, thanks for reading!

Itagaki: It was done intentionally of course. The testers who tested this game went nuts. At first it was easier, but when the testers said "this is too difficult", I made it even more difficult.

Well, I like to think that I'm not nearly as... eccentric... as him.

I need to play the Childhood Arc again, because I missed the Frying Pan ^^;;
Arya's frying Pan? I didn't know such thing existed. Eitherway I didn't attack with Arya with anything other than rocks.

Anyway, childhood arc is indeed harder than the adult arc. But I don't think that makes players quit, I never feel like it and I got stuck with the hideous monster boss. Maybe making the adult arc harder? :P

Oh don't worry. The Adult Arc will have it's share of challenge.

The Childhood Arc was short, so I tried to include enemies that could REALLY hurt you, especially since the characters were frail children. The Adult Arc is more focused on resource management, and the areas were designed to be more of an endurance run.

So don't worry, the Adult Arc will be plenty challenging!
