Thanks for the playthrough and for the honest feedback!

I have to admit, though, I was semi-crushed when you said "I don't care" during the twist and your general dislike for the story, because I thought I crafted it well (albeit rather cliched out of necessity). I thought I had some strong characters set up here, relative to most other RM games.

Edit: actually, is it really that cliched? A lot of the facts are kind of up in the air. The Gyth might not be "evil," for all we know. I'd call it more like a blank slate with the potential to be cliched in the long-run...or the exact opposite.

Edit 2: I completely forgot about changing party leaders and the associated sprite issues. Whoops!

:(

Remember when I bought up the Tales of series?
You can only do so much at the start, and with all that said, you provided a really good starting point for other devs.

My criticism towards the game is jaded, and my standards for a storyline with no unique/custom graphics/scripts is unreasonable. Excluding the storyline there isn't a whole lot that stands out from other games, other than the fact that you're a skilled developer. And that's what really bugged me about playing this ATM.

But, honestly, I wouldn't expect or recommend doing anything to remedy that. It would make the project too ambitious.

tl;dr C_C is a hater.

I wouldn't call you a hater; it's a legit issue that I also run into when playing too many RTP games in a row. That's been one of the consistent criticisms of my work. I play it way too safe when it comes to graphics and other custom stuff in my solo/lead projects. I need to branch out eventually, but yeah, this isn't really the project to do that. My goal with this one is to make a fundamentally excellent game using what VX Ace has to offer, with a few twists like yanfly/some RTP edits later on/maybe some RMW resource packs that fit with the RTP.

So what you're saying is that it's not a fault in the writing, but with the limited scope of the first chapter + the "default" nature of the graphics. This makes it hard to care for the characters and the goings-on, especially when you've seen these characters in 20 other games and when there are technical issues in the opening cutscenes, such as a sprite not fully fading out and the "clone" issue, which detract from those critical character-bonding scenes.

It is what it is, I suppose. I hate making comedy games unless it's a bad 24 ripoff or something XD
Brilliant playthrough, CC. Always love how fastidious you are when you play.
we got to fix the changing party leader thing -_-

Loved your play through for the first game, though. Hope this will be as good. :)
