The setting behind Titan City is heavily influenced by the paper and pencil game of Cyberpunk 2020 Role playing game, Deus Ex, and some influences from Shadowrun. It takes place in a near future setting when corporations have gained control of nearly every infrastructure of government and daily life. Fewer regulations in human rights and the ever expanding advancement of future technology has resulted in a hybrid of man and machine. Grafting of metal to man in numerous ways has become common place and fashionable. Corporate greed and espionage is out of control and gangs run rampant in the streets.

Titan City will be about character development. Any character you play will essentially be an open class with the only exception being the special ability each character starts with. Currently there are over 50 skills to pick and develop as you play the game. All can be learned and maxed out as the player chooses via training. Training requires money and improvement points that are collected by killing enemies, questing and a few other ways that are still in development. Players will further develop their characters with cybernetic augmentation choices such as arms, legs, torso, head, and eyes. Of these choices, each augmentation will also allow a certain number of enhancements available to further develop their play style.

Finally an update...

As the title states. It's my first update in quite some time and as such I don't have a descriptive log of events to run down all the changes. However...
-The most notable change to this update will be the addition of lighting effects which I hope brings a new depth to all areas.
-There are a few new maps added to the random hacking list bringing the total to 25. -On the downside of things my attempt at creating side quests revolving around hiring a party of mercenaries has hit a wall. As a result there hasn't been much progress in that area and if there's going to be I'm afraid it will have to be a fraction of what I had hoped for. Despite the fact it may not be fully realized, I believe it can still be a part of the game. If you get far enough into the main plot you may come across this section and will undoubtedly see that it has very little content.

As always thank you for your feedback and support!

Hello Nestalious! More than two years without new post, but I do not forget to look at here from time to time. I hope that the project is not abandoned and that you will find time to work again on it. Best regards.
Dear MrFrench,

Thank you so much for your continued support! I couldn't help but notice a few extra downloads over that last few days which I must credit to your review. Thank you very much! I really wanted to see what you had to say, but I don't know much french. I'm hoping I will be able to find someone to translate for me.

While I may not have the best reviews I try to keep an open mind and prioritize accordingly. Some of my early builds could have used more polish before they were released, but regardless I think the game continues to make forward progress.

Thank you again for your support. I am continuing to work on the last few game mechanics. Progress has been very slow lately due to real life and work, but I have not given up. I hope I can get a new build for you soon!

Nestalious

Hello Nestalious,
news on my side : i've just made a short review of Titan city on the best french rpg maker comunity / website, oniromancie ; http://www.rpg-maker.fr/tests-153-un-projet-cyberpunk-titan-city.html .
Hoped it help to find players.
Other thing; definitely your US critics are very rude !
The guy who put 3/5 stars who's reproach you influences you acknowledge...
Or Max McGee who think for exemple first fight to hard (Hey man ! It's a big run! ) and seems not understand the interest of a wealth gameplay system (do you more than an hour ? ).
In my side I persist to think you made an awesome work for the gameplay, and you chose the best strategy for made a great/big RPG project alone.
First the system, second the story and last when you can or if you find contributors graphics.
I never said all was perfect but if i can play a complete good game, in a scarce genre on rpg maker it's the main thing.
For justify my opinion; the best french rpg maker game AĆ«demphia (very ambicious and long projet) know a lot of versions same way to complete; first the system and the story and after, more recently graphic reboot.
No choise to made a lot alone; be logical critics !
I don't said Max mac Gee point of view was not interesting...just to rude.
Sure best screen title image choise...or best screenshoots can serve the game, with no time lose; be confident.
At last hope i can put a four/five star for encouragement and compensation.
Thanks for your work and the result; waiting next upload.

Enjoy the demo Max McGee. It sounds like you might be a fan of the genre so I hope the work I've done so far meets your expectations.

Um, a bit more than that XD. I write for Shadowrun.

Gonna play this now, my thoughts soon.

EDIT: Ok, so my initial impression is that this game has a LOT of potential but it needs a LOT of work. First off, I want to say that I understand the demo I played is not current so some of the following has probably been addressed--but some of it is so fundamental that I would be surprised if it had been entirely addressed and resolved by now.

I'm going to start by giving my general impressions of the game VERY BRIEFLY (okay not that briefly) in the form of a micro-mini (ok not that mini) review then I'm going to make an offer--by PM--you may want to think about for a while.

Story: I did not get to experience much of this due to some pretty fundamental issues with the gameplay discussed below, so I haven't really formed an opinion yet. I have noticed that there are a lot of typos and spelling errors, far more than I would consider acceptable even in an amateur project. As one egregious example, the boilerplate text of "Your hightened awareness lets you notice" has the word 'heightened' misspelled in every single example. Besides major presentation issues, the story has some other problems. Obviously, I played as Johnny Li. The game seems to want to depict Johnny as being an elite hacker (which is not reinforced mechanically at all see gameplay below) while simultaneously treating him as being a total noob with no idea he is doing for the purposes of the tutorial. You can't have it both ways--the attempt to comes off as not just awkward but really awfully tortured and lame--you have to pick one and stick to it. Additionally, I found the introduction of one conflict--between the multinational Megacorps and the US Government--shortly before we're thrust into another street-level conflict between rival criminal gangs--to be sort of baffling. I know that it will probably all connect later on.

Pseudo-Score For Present Build: 30/100

Gameplay: I didn't even play around with the character creation system since the game recommended I use the pre-built "Johnny Li" but I can tell that there has been a ton of effort put into this and it is trying to accommodate a ton of interesting ideas that are very non-standard to RPG Maker games. That said, this is one of the most sprawlingly, exaggeratedly over-ambitious RM games I have ever seen and was obviously crippled with the burden of overwhelming scope creep before development could progress beyond a rudimentary stage. For starters, 14 fully customizable playable characters with their own story paths is a wildly unattainable goal. While I respect the youthful ambition, you need to reign yourself in and be substantially more realistic in the expectations you set for yourself. Making matters worse, there is a seemingly total lack of polish and presentation here that is really off-putting.

At present, the demo is actually basically unplayable.

After an insanely difficult VR fight with the DEMON 5.0 Intrusion Countermeasure program in the Matrix node of a simple security panel, I was left with a mere 6 Health. For starters, that fight is much, much too difficult to be the first fight of your game. I barely pulled through and it took all of the skills I have developed over 10+ years of playing RPG Maker games AND excellent luck for that. The fact that the fight is optional doesn't help. You are effectively just punishing the player that chooses to have their hacker hack. Evening out this issue is as easy as putting a full heal after the Matrix fight inside the security panel node.

Anyway, you have only a couple healing items and moments later you are forced into a fight "in the meaT" with two Hammer gang members...I still had 6 Health, so needless to say, I died, and I quit playing there out of frustration. I obviously experienced very little of this game, far less than would be ideal, but even in that short time I encountered multiple game design decisions that I found to be ugly, problematic, stupid, and/or indefensible.

So if your Technical stat is higher, you can DRINK THIS JUICE IN A SMARTER WAY and get more hit points from it? I am sorry sir, but that is retarded. This mechanic makes perfect sense with a medical kit or something of that ilk. But when applied to a can of Red Bull it is just painfully dumb.

Pseudo-Score for Present Build: 20/100

Graphics: Man this area needs a whole lot of work.

First off, I should not be able to access the menu during character selection. Disable yer damn menu, youngster. Secondly, that face graphic is ffffffuggggggggleeeee.

The tilesets and map graphics are...adequate. The mapping is not great but for now it will serve. The title screen could be a LOT better. The Game Over screen is default when it really shouldn't be. The icons used in the menu are pretty good. The windowskin used is completely lame and inappropriate. Where this area of the game is simply entirely inadequate is in the character sets and battle graphics which just do not look like what they are supposed to. Almost none of the 14 playable characters you can look at in the beginning looked anything like what they were supposed to look like--by dint of the fact that they are from the RTP which is designed for lite jfantasy. Character sets are one area of the game where just a little work and effort can provide you with a LOT of benefit.

Pseudo-Score for Present Build: 40/100

Audio: Awesome work on the soundtrack keep doing what you're doing XD.

Pseudo-Score for Present Build: 90/100

So overall if I were to review the game in its present state I would give it something like a 40/100 (2 out of 5 Stars) (not an average) at most. But I think it has the potential to be much, much better than that and I want to see it be better because it's in a genre that I love and it has admirable chutzpah and moxie.

Enjoy the demo Max McGee. It sounds like you might be a fan of the genre so I hope the work I've done so far meets your expectations. The demo is still in an early form in some ways so things can change pretty quick as noted by my last blog post.

Again, thank you for the support guys!

I was wondering which knowledge skills are boosted by education and which ones are not since it seemed to indicate not all of them are effected

This is a good question. I kept the descriptions short for some of the skills for various reasons, but in this particular case it is very unclear as to how this skill directly effects game play.

At this time every two levels of the Knowledge skill will increase your damage output in web combat by +1, your health gained from Biology skills by +1, and your defense in web combat by +1.

Once I have completed my next goal of new additions to the game it will also raise your interest rate total by +1 for every two levels. I also have other plans for the skill to come in to use during game play with things like dialogue options, and I will likely extend its applications to a few technical based skills as well. My goal is to reflect that a good education can make other skills more powerful or successful and to let players effect outcomes to certain situations based off this skill selection.

In this version after leaving the net I was still effected by the warlocks virus status it inflicted died just trying to walk outside of the net, no items i tried could get rid of it either and i don't think a computer status effect is ment to keep effecting johnny out after exiting the net and trying to walk

Thank you for reporting this bug. No status effects the player receives while hacking should linger after the player has disconnected. I will get this fixed.

The patch is now available for download.

Okay... so as I said before RPG Maker hates decimals and is refusing to work with the equation that I was using. Long story short is I'll make some adjustments and add a character in the game that you can talk to so you can get your appropriate interest rate without starting over. I placed this individual at the Chop Doc, Police Station in the Slums, the Park and the Safe House in Neutral Territory.

I updated the description given in the skills menu (I forgot to adjust those) to properly explain how much interest you gain off each skill.
-Investment = 1% every 2 levels.
-Stock Market = 1% every level.

I missed an important line in my script to make the interest payment loop over itself properly. I fixed that so it works every morning now instead of just once (which is the issue you were actually describing Dante.)
As it stands it takes 24 minutes to cycle a full day during game play, minus a few key events that stop time.
The idea behind the rented rooms and housing was to give players the ability to choose when to be somewhere for specific events. The quest that can only take place at a specific time is only one example of a few ideas I have floating around with this type of eventing. At this time I'm not convinced about speeding up the progression of time.

I will get this patched up here quickly and have an update in a few hours.

Sounds good thanks, I didn't realize that every 24 min is a new day since i only got interest once i was thinking it took longer than that. i'll be sure to grab the patch

your welcome for the suggestion, i downloaded the new patch picked my skills learned nanosurgens all good there, tried investment and it said it increases +.50% per level i spent 2 skill points and it told me i have zero levels in it (minor bug here) after i'm in the game and get the credit chip it says I earn 0% interest (before everthing is set on fire) in the skill menu it tells me investment increases rates by .25% per level(so the amounts listed are inconsistant) went into the city deposited 100 credits into my account and now it it tells me I have 800 and I earn 2% interest, then i use the foot locker key i saved from the house that burned to open the the chest get 1300+ credits (lucky) pick up so cash on the ground pick some pockets deposit credits till i have 2500 in my account total and wait.. so how do we tell when its 5:01am in the game?

edit
I git a message tellin me i gain 50 dollars interest so other than the sklls description having different amounts I am gaining interest of 2% at skill level 3.

edit 2
a very random odd bug, the npc that walks around near the police station just walked up the front wall of the police station on the far left, I was able to walk up and down it too

edit 3
Time progression day/night/day etc is a bit slow... in 2 hr and some min and investment has only activated once. doesn't seem to be to effective so far.. being able to sleep at the safe house make it happen more fequntly but i'm not in to much of a hurry to get and run out of things to do in game. Speaking of which for that mission (last playthourgh last patch) to change idenitiy were you have to go during the day it was morning just stoped being dark and i could talk to the guy tried waiting..waiting then i finally just went to the safe house to sleep till afternoon
So my suggestion would be to speed up the day night progression and maybe add a way to tell time in game, since theres only one data stream right now which would be a logical place to tell the time, maybe let the in game time be checked at the atm since theres one or more in every area

suggestions
- could there be a way to re-equip/change your weapon during battle, otherwise i tend to stick to one weapon and brawling or kung fu currently.

I managed to find a script by Yanfly that allows players to switch weapons or armor during battles. It has a 2 turn cool down. I think this will work beautifully with the combat system especially since I just added another script that allows player to freely choose a counter attack skill of their choice. Coupled with the different types of skills/abilities I think this will add a great dimension to character development and decisions during battle. It will need some fine tuning and play testing, but I'm rather excited about it. Thanks for the suggestion Dante.

That's as far as I got with that particular quest line. Sounds like it all worked though. Yes, there is a way in to the Joker Gang without streetwise. I'll keep plugging away. I really want to finish out the joker gang quest lines to move the game into open territory (let players decide where they go). All in good time. I have other promises to fulfill as well. I should have a patch up by today or tomorrow.

Nestalious
Your welcome, no problem

Continued on in the game, got in joker area with streetwise, is there a way for players who didn't train in streetwise too? I rather not go without that skill myself. Handed out the samples completed fine, bought 5 synths from each dealer just fine and got into the prophets computer and took the recipe..and Now i'm supposed to find a dealer which it hough it would be the guy sitting on the bench(located upright from safe house) since it says dealer where name would be but i get no conversation, i have streetwise and persuade at lv 3, so i'm not sure where to go from here or am i just on an unfinshed quest?

Dante,
-I found the bug with Codebreaker 2.0. While you weren't seeing it in the correct skill tree (Interface) it would still work properly in a blitz (in other words you can still take down 2 codegates even though you couldn't see the skill). I moved this skill to appear in the Interface skill tree.
- I didn't try it in a blitz yet but when i went on the mission to change Johnny's identity i could not open both codegates and it told me i only had codebreaker 1.0 even though i did purchase it. i think the problem was it not being "installed" on Johnny like when click item in inventory then click on Johnny so he recieves the skill like all the others.

- on another note, this could be a matter of preferance but wouldn't pickpocket make more sense as a relflex skill? I can understand how picklock can be considered technical as it can be a more detailed procedure depending but pickpocket seems like it fits best as the dexterity type of skill it usually is the focuses on being quick and unnoticed.

bugs I forgot about
- If you persuade slick to "drop" the credit chip and give the code, it does not add the code to to your journal entry like it does if you bribe the guy.
- the code to get to the second floor on the identity change mission is also not added to your main quest journal entry.

-I found the error with codebreaker 2.0. The item was not set up properly to let you select a player to teach the skill to. I got it fixed and will be part of the upcoming patch.

-Pick Pocket IS a reflex skill. I changed that a long time ago, but never moved it from the Tech Stat during character creation. That's just me being lazy, but it is also miss informative to players. I'll get that cleaned up. The Reflex list is just going to be really long. Actually... that reminds me that I did find a script that can increase the number of choices a player can have on screen at one time. I'll have to dig for that.

-I found the missing script that should have been showing the door code in the quest journal and fixed it. Good find... that particular script was really really really long.

-I didn't take time to flesh out the quest journal for the identity change mission, and now I'm regretting it. That particular part of the quest line is a new addition that wasn't there prior to this patch and I rushed to push it out quickly. I made a quick patch so that you can talk to the person again and get the door code until I update the main quest journal.

You've been incredibly helpful. Thank you very much Dante!
