Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a yuri (lesbian romance) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.

Characters:

Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...

Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.

A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.

The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.

Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

Scripts used:
  • Yanfly's Ace Core Engine, Message, Menu, Equipment and Battle systems!
  • Kread-EX's Animated Battlers!
  • Fomar0153's Compatible Customisable ATB/Stamina Based Battle System!
  • Coelocanth's Item Crafting system!
  • NeonBlack's No AutoShadows

And a special thanks to Red Nova, LockeZ, Crystalgate, Archeia_Nessiah, GreatRedSpirit, and everyone else in the Rpgmaker.net forums for their fantastic suggestions, advice, and general help!

Happy Luxaversary!

It's the fourth anniversary of Luxaren Allure being complete! (and wow, like nearly 6 years since I started the project!)

Before I continue further, I just wanted to share some really awesome stuff, like this super cute artwork I got from ebeth recently! So adorable!!!

And as anyone who's been following the comments is no doubt aware, Error recently completed this really incredible fanfiction about Merel's continued research after the events of the game, and if you haven't checked it out, I urge you to do so, because it's really well written and enjoyable! :D

If you'll indulge me, I'd like to ramble a little about Luxaren Allure and future plans for games. I replayed LA recently this year, and I'm still pretty darn happy with how it turned out! My favorite part is probably the Hotenshin Contest of Love, as what started as a silly idea also happened to wring out a lot of funny character moments and some drama and just a lot of fun.

While I still get a lot of great comments both here and on Luxaren's itch.io page, I still felt like maybe I went a bit overboard with the density of RPG battles in the game, not to mention the game has a very slow pace, as I prioritized exploring around the isles over really investing players with a deep plot right away.

At the same time, I kinda like that more relaxed pace, but I can see how it didn't gel with some players and I could have done more to hook people right away. And it means people who primarily wanted yuri content had to power through all the exploring and battling just to get to content they wanted. Some even cheated to get there (which is fine, you do what makes you happy :DDD). Makes me think I could have done better, though.

As you probably know, I've been working on Weird and Unfortunate during the years since LA's release, but I've been longing to do more projects like Luxaren, with fantasy settings and cute lesbian relationships. During RMN's Rainbow of Positivity event, I got that chance, and released a demo of Date Knights, a short RPG with a focus on a Holy Knight and Dark Knight who used to date and meet again for a mission years later.

I really need to go back and flesh this demo out into a full game, but if you haven't checked it out, please feel free to give it a play and let me know what you think ^_^

And there's also the matter of what I work on next after Weird and Unfortunate. It'll probably be a remake of Lilies of Vanigale (a game I almost finished in RPG Maker XP over like ten years ago) or I'll work on Eye of Uzola (a game I started in RPG Maker 2000 as a teenager).

What sort of game would you like to see from me in the future? :DDD While I can't say it'll absolutely influence what I make next, I am curious XD

The Lilies Cast, as drawn by Sooz!

Okay, that's enough rambling and reminiscing from me! Time to get back to work on RPG making! Hopefully I can finish Weird and Unfortunate early in 2020 and get to make even more games! A huge thanks to everyone who's following me and cheering me on! Seriously, it means a lot to me!

I PLAYED A BIT OF THIS and it was really cute! I had a good time!

Thanks so much for playing ^_^ I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your feedback!

...like I'm gonna be straight up with you I'm mostly here because I saw "lesbians" and my lesbian senses went "LESBIANS??? LESBIANS IN GAMES???? LESBIAN GAME????" and thus I hit download at a ferociously speedy speed.

Haha :3 My main inspiration for this game (and another one in the works) is the lack of lesbian characters in media (and RPGs in particular). That and girl/girl romance is just about the best thing ever, in my opinion XD

But, like, hey, after that? I legitimately enjoyed myself. I really like the quirky, humorous tone the game takes and the cartoony art style! The battles were fun! I liked exploring the dungeons because they were filled with treasure! The only thing I really had to complain about was the 10 minute cutscene that opened everything up -- it was a little strange, and showing what happened 2 years ago was a little weird to me! It didn't exactly feel natural, y'know?
...yeesh that is super unclear. Lemme elaborate: I feel like things woulda been better if we'd revealed the whole "Aurelie is Karuna's BFF AND ALSO THE BAD GUY AAAAH~~" in a different way! I would have started with Karuna's mission to the Naga Territory instead, and given her some different reason to go rather than "YOU ARE THE HERO DO THE THING~"! I feel like having her bump into Aurelie there and then having Karuna become the hero woulda made things more mysterious, y'know?

I agree, I could have handled the story a lot better in this regard. To be honest, I still feel I have a whole lot to learn about how to tell a good story, and this game started out with the idea of "Let's make a real simple game with the standard Dragon Quest-esce plot of hero and villain but where the hero loves the villain."

I completely cop to the "you are the hero, collect the doodads and stop the villain" plot being both overused and an easy crutch to build an RPG around. I also want to learn how to tell more elaborate stories that suck the player in, without annoying them with too-long intros ^^;; Hopefully what I learn from making this game will help me do that (and I've certainly learned a lot from all the great feedback I've gotten).

Anyways, I'm defs gonna play more of this, and I look forward to the final release! Really, if only because party made up entirely of ladies and lesbians. THAT IS MY JAM, MAN.

Thank you so much! I'll do my best not to disappoint! ^_^

It has yuri?

Yep! To clarify, there's no explicit content, but it's full of ladies who love ladies, so if that's what you like, please enjoy :DDD

My critique defs comes with that grain-of-salt, "I don't expect you to go back and change everything about this game"...thing. At the end of the day, I would rather see this finished than have you obsessively go over the first few hours with many different coats of paint, y'know? I mean, you can always carry lessons you learned making THIS game forward to future things!

And, y'know, simple plots for games aren't inherently bad, either. I am personally a bigger fan of a simple, straight forward "this is what the character wants and this is what is in their way" plot (e-especially if it leaves room for a lot of character fluff), as opposed to "LOOK AT ALL THESE COMPLEX FANTASY POLITICS~~". Then again, I am a simple kind of gal, ah-hahaha.

Ah, I see ^_^ Thanks, I'll do just that (take the lessons I learn here and make the next game better) :D
I have to say that exploration as been a pleasant and rewarding experience so far: chests everywhere! I found myself spending the first 30 min exploring and talking to every npc, rather than following the main quest.

The only thing that i would like to point out is the running speed: It never felt slow, but i'd rather die that use walking considering the size of the maps!

Yeah, that's why I have Auto-Run set as the default ^^;; Hopefully my maps and areas aren't too huge.

So, I've been re-playing through this (and will be for the next while), and I'm slowly being reminded why I'm nominating this as Most Promising Demo of the Year. Also, did I ever mention how bad-ass this soundtrack is?

I'd do the same for Remnants of Isolation.

EDIT:

Ever since that day, I've been trying to figure out the problem. Unfortunately, out of all the 15 people in my area, no one has the troubles you're having, so I can't work out a solution.

;_;
Don't sweat it, guys. =) Once I get a new laptop, RoI and LA will be the first Ace games I'll play ( and review ).
