Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a wlw (women who love women, lesbian romance, yuri, etc) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.

Characters:

Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...

Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.

A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.

The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.

Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

Scripts used:
  • Yanfly's Ace Core Engine, Message, Menu, Equipment and Battle systems!
  • Kread-EX's Animated Battlers!
  • Fomar0153's Compatible Customisable ATB/Stamina Based Battle System!
  • Coelocanth's Item Crafting system!
  • NeonBlack's No AutoShadows

And a special thanks to Red Nova, LockeZ, Crystalgate, Archeia_Nessiah, GreatRedSpirit, and everyone else in the Rpgmaker.net forums for their fantastic suggestions, advice, and general help!

I didn't think there'd be this much confusion as the upper icons are the same ones that appear before your characters elemental moves.

Wait, what?

*checks*

BAHAHAHAHA! Okay, I totally didn't notice that!
Just popping in to say that this game is depriving me of sleep.

Game updated with the fixes to the first Riddlemonger's puzzle!

Buttons now tell you which ones they are before pressing, and if you get it wrong enough times, the Riddlemonger will start dropping hints. Big thanks to Marrend for the idea to use the elements colors in the text! :D

Screenshots under the cut.

Unless you plan on replaying after getting beat in the head repeatedly to the point that you have lost all memory and possibly some IQ points, no, probably not.
I've been playing for a few hours now, but haven't actually made much progress (because I was instinctively grinding ;p).
Thoughts so far:
I already have the first crystal from the dirtbag king, and am on my way to Parvian.

I JUST LOOOOOVE CHISA!! Er.. I mean, gameplay wise! H-Hey, don't look at me like that...

When I play rpg's with multiple charas, I usually put down a 'precedence' of sorts that determines who gets equipment first, priority in exp (if applicable) and what-not. Well, Chisa almost immediately took top spot for me. I have yet to meet Lynnette though, so this *might* change, but Chisa just seems to be the most well-rounded compared to Merel and Karuna, despite lacking Magic attacks (so far). She's currently my main physical damage dealer.

That said, Karuna hasn't been very useful for me. This might just be my playstyle conflicting with her design, but... Suffice to say, she got relegated into a mere Buffer/extra meat shield.

Merel's okay though. Eye of Dhath is just too good to pass off. Though I do hope this skill isn't the *only* AOE skill available.

Nitpicker Nitpicking:
The music in some areas don't loop properly (the one in Erdengard, for example)

Roses and skeletons block passage (they look flat on the ground, so I assumed I could walk on them)

I'll probably have more later :)
I just had to say I'm a few hours in and this game is just fantastic. I really mean it. I feel like I'm playing a commercial-worthy game for free. Great story so far, I love the characters, battles are fun and engaging (love the sprite animations), graphics are custom and nicely done, soundtrack is pretty awesome, and gameplay-wise it plays spot-on for me so far. Really well-done. I'll likely do a review of this game once I've completed it.

Id have one up, but these days I like to LP a game first before I do a review, and I don't always get the conditions I need for doing LPs with audio commentary (sowwy).

I didn't think there'd be this much confusion as the upper icons are the same ones that appear before your characters elemental moves. But I will label each one so future players can avoid the confusion.

Yah, in retrospect, I should have realized the connection between the elements in the puzzle and the spells I could cast. But for some reason, when doing the puzzle, I wasn't even thinking in gameplay terms, just in terms of the story the tablets told, so I didn't notice the icons matched.

Puzzle aside, I have a few general thoughts on the game. Some of my comments are the same as what others have already said, but I figure the more voices you hear and the more complete the feedback, the better.

First of all, I liked it quite a bit. It's been a while since I've played any RPGMaker games, or any old school RPGs that inspired the style of a lot of RPGMaker games, but this game definitely scratched that itch.

Story stuff in spoiler tag:

I do feel that at the start, we could have used some more time to get to know Aurelie before the timeskip. The dream sequence from Karuna later on helps flesh it out, but overall, I never really cared about Aurelie and Karuna's relationship as much as I felt I should.

This was contrasted by Chisa and Meral, who were both very cute, and I really enjoyed watching them. I was definitely a lot more invested in their relationship than that of Kuruna/Aurelie.

I noticed you tried to include a fair amount of humor and lighthearted elements in the game. I think, for the most part this worked, though I remember it clashing with the more serious elements at times.

(Regarding the humor, my personal favorite moment was during the love contest, when they had to recognize their lover by their feet, and Chisa's reaction to it. :D )

Speaking of the love contest, one touch I liked was the idea that the people of that town HAD to follow their bizarre traditions with incredible strictness, because the magic that protected them was powered by them. It gave king a reason for requiring you to complete the labyrinth other than him just being an asshole and/or scatterbrained, and it was an interesting idea. I kind of would like to see the idea explored more.

Lynnette, oh Lynnette. I get she was supposed to be a bit of a douche, you've mentioned you like characters like that. And I do think her dream helped humanize her a bit. But overall I found she was a bit too douchey for my preference at least.

Also regarding Lynnette, an incredibly minor nitpick, but I was hoping that when we fought the sea monster, she'd be in the party. Since she was the only character with a history with that monster, it would have made sense.

I understand though that the boss was strong enough where we could only reasonably fight it right near the end, and by that point Lynnette was out of the party. But it was a minor detail that stuck out to me, partially because it felt a little like Lynnette's story arc was a bit incomplete. She screws up and wastes her one use of holy power by trying to beat up the good guys, and after that she does realize her mistake and try to fix things as best as possible, but it felt to me like there was a little something missing.

Overall, I did like the story. It didn't hit me with OMG TWISTS but it was executed nicely, and most of the humor worked for me.

Moving on to gameplay, I thought the system was decent, and playing on normal, provided a fair challenge at times. Especially the final boss.

That does lead to a potential issue. I liked how you had the monsters visible on the map, and how once defeated they wouldn't respawn until you left the dungeon/area. This removed a lot of potential tedium, especially considering some of the dungeons were fairly complicated.

But this meant that, since it is impossible to leave the final dungeon, that if you get stuck on the final boss, there is no way to grind and level up because there is no way to find new monsters once the dungeon is cleared. Now, I suppose someone could just drop the difficulty level down (unless you're already playing on very easy, in which case you're doomed) but if you're hoping to beat the boss on a specific difficulty, this could be frustrating. Yah, it's incredibly stupid pride really to rather grind several levels than simply drop the difficulty to easy, but I know when I was stuck on the boss, I was more inclined to do the former (though eventually I beat him on Normal).

Don't have much else to say, other than that I don't recall it ever being mentioned that using Guard increases your Impulse, which is a useful thing to know.

Finally, I discovered a small bug. The Bone Helm says it increases Agility by 5, but it doesn't actually do so.
So i have played a hour so far and the game is fun the plotline is fine for the start of the game yeah the only complaints i have so far is.

1.Based off what this site says in "characters" there is not one male hero character that can join the party. Before anyone says anything i like having at least one opposite sex character in rpgs be it if the game has only one female or one male.
I get that the maker may have wanted to exude a male do to feeling like if there was one it may feel odd do too....well here is my 2ed issue with the game i have.

2.It seems so far 4/5 of the main heros are gay or bi not sure anyway before people say i'm being close minded i want you guys to know i am fine with Karuna loving aurelie that is realistic however i'm getting the hint Chisa and Merel are also gay by doing that if feels like the game is saying "Look i have gay chicks cool right?"
Or maybe I'm wrong and the game just makes it look that way.
Anyway so far the game as been fun besides the few hangups i have.
@ryan7251 I think you kind of forgot to read the game description on top:

The game contains yuri (lesbian romance) themes.

So expect a number of them in this game. And since that's the case, it's also expected that females are dominant in the game.

(well, actually, I didn't read the game description before playing the game either, so I was taken aback at first as well ^^" But I'm cool with it.)

I do feel that the relationship between Chisa and Merel is a little abrupt, though.

Look i know what yuri is ok but there is a line between having some yuri (Like say having the hero be gay) and so much to the point the game feels more like it's just making the heros yuri because it's a gimmick. Anyway like i said i have no beef with the main character being yuri it adds to who she is but making all the heros girls and yuri just feels forced.
As for the description i thought it said that do to the main hero being yuri i did not think "Oh i bet this means all the heros are gay"
Anyway like i said it's a fun game and i know this is MY issue with the game.

@Mad_Scientist: Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm still very much learning about what makes a story work and what doesn't, so feedback like this is super useful! (I'm also still trying to balance that whole 'silly vs serious' thing too ^^;;; )

As for the last dungeon respawning issue, I meant to make the monsters respawn if you used the teleporter or backtracked to a certain point, and I'm super shocked and embarrassed to see that I didn't implement it properly. I'll be fixing that right away (along with the Bone Helm) so thanks very very much for catching that ^_^

@ryan7251: Sorry if the lack of male characters and an all-gay cast isn't what you were looking for. However, the choice was not in any way to make any sort of statement or to lure or trick anyone. I just made the kind of game I wanted to exist.

Now, you have a good point, as perhaps I don't make the facts obvious enough to potential new players who may not want that sort of thing. What does everyone else think? Do I need a big WARNING: ALL LADIES. ALL GAY ROMANCE. FINAL DESTINATION! tag at the top? Or should I modify the line about the yuri to be more obvious that the theme of the game is the gay romance?

Warning: This game is gay as shit and only has girls, so only play it if you've had your cootie shots.
@unity I was afraid of this you seem to think i was attacking your decisions for your game. Look it's not my game and i respect the fact you worked hard on a game i know it's not easy.
Also i want to make it clear that i am still playing the game and the issues i have with the game are not big issues just something i wanted to bring up.
As for the last part i can't tell if you are being passive aggressive or not :)
But really all i would do is put something on the lines of saying all pc's are yuri or bi or whatever anyway as a gay male maybe deep down I'm just jelly of the fact there is no good gay male rpgs will not without them wanting to hump every moveing thing with a dick that is why can't there be a deep caring gay male in rpgs (Well besides the ones you make in some open world rpgs) :)
