Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a wlw (women who love women, lesbian romance, yuri, etc) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.

Characters:

Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...

Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.

A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.

The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.

Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

Scripts used:
  • Yanfly's Ace Core Engine, Message, Menu, Equipment and Battle systems!
  • Kread-EX's Animated Battlers!
  • Fomar0153's Compatible Customisable ATB/Stamina Based Battle System!
  • Coelocanth's Item Crafting system!
  • NeonBlack's No AutoShadows

And a special thanks to Red Nova, LockeZ, Crystalgate, Archeia_Nessiah, GreatRedSpirit, and everyone else in the Rpgmaker.net forums for their fantastic suggestions, advice, and general help!

The guard's name is Garrison... Umm... Okay...
If you don't like my weird humor, then things are just going to get worse for you the farther you progress XD

I have no room to complain. I want to name a Fire User "Blaze Infernoheat", and justify it.

So, getting through training means you're at LV3? What does that mean about everyone else???

It means that A) Karuna's training isn't simply represented by her level, as she learns a wide variety of skills that only she gets because of her training, and B) while I like adding touches to the story via gamplay, they shouldn't be included when it is detrimental to balance and pacing.

If Karuna was both an unstoppable badass and a temporary party member, I could justify giving her tons of levels at the start of the game, but she's the main character. I wanted her to grow at a somewhat steady rate.

Could have used more levels to show more differentiation? ... RPGMaker only allows 99 LVLs? No? Oui?

And seriously, the whole "final dungeon" took me 3 hours... I took longer fighting the last boss at Breath of Fire 4, people lied to me.

Give Level, Difficulty, Inventory, and Equips. Else is almost worthless without things to compare... Sorry.

I don't remember the last boss of Breath of Fire 4 to be that hard? Of course, I cheat with PS1 games like hell (CodeBreaker is a Godsend, I tell you), so...

It was clear that unity put her? heart in the game, and it translated nicely, i believe it was more of an idealized love story than a plot. Not even once i felt bored or unwilling to go for the 100%, i really did look for all trasures and special stuff. This is a game that all yuri lovers should play. I keep everything i said before in my other post, and armor ignoring damage is op.

Some things to add are: You did awesome at the diversity and length of the dungeons, everything was straight foward, but with items hidden on secondary rooms, no bs respawn, each dungeon took 1-2 hours to finish; The game became increasingly easy instead of harder, the op items by the end of the game were overwhelming, at some times, Chisa and Karuna could instakill all enemies using the 3X impulse skills (yes, i abused the luck build), everyone had stat preventing and impulse refueling items and by god... I made Merel deal 37k single damage, not even combined damage from multi-hit skills got close, basically, by the time enemies got stronger, the characters got a new op skill/item; The dialogs could have been a little more mature between Chisa and Merel, i thought the game would be all light-hearted, but then... Lynette, she gave some maturity to the game, which made me think back about those 2, i mean Chisa defending Merel at the beggining was very good, and the sleep part was cute, but i don't know, i felt like Merel was trying too hard to impress.

tl;dr: Loved the game, can i be your fan?

Yep, "her" is correct ^_^ I am so glad you liked it! :DDDD I will certainly admit that I have a lot to learn about writing, and I'll try to keep improving as I make games.

It's not about the available levels as it is overall progression. If Karuna starts at Level 15 and Chisa at Level 1, it means that for monsters to be effective, they'll be able to easily kill Chisa while Karuna will be able to endure more hits. It also affects getting skills. Does Karuna just start with a huge skill loadout to make up for the fact that since she's at Level 15 she won't be leveling up very often?

I'm not saying I couldn't make it work, and I might even do something similar in the future, but overall I found it undesirable in this situation and in the end I chose to put my own spin on things rather than having Karuna with a massive head start in Levels.
@Malandy
Remember that Chisa spent more than a year training along Karuna. Sure Karuna had more history, she could have gotten some more skills from her past like Chisa, but she joined the school like 3 years before the game, so yes, Karuna is stronger, but Chisa is not that far behind, not to mention the time Karuna spent grooving. Also, on Hero and Daughter, the hero is permanently at level 1, and by the end of the game, he gets stronger than the lvl 400s.

The weirdest of all is Chisa's weapon, she is a healer that uses an axe. I would accept staff, sword, mace, bow, even nunchakus, but axe... She also boasts the title of "healers have insane damage".
Dragnfly
Beta testers!? No, this game needs a goddamn exorcist!
1809
I was so happy that the healer had something like an axe. I'm always all for breaking the norms when it comes to stuff like that. Normally the healers have such powers because of religion and that same religion prohibits bladed weapons. Basically D&D rationale. But I've always found that to be kind of overdone and usually not even supported in the story.

Seeing Chisa's training (if I remember correctly) was still in fighting a front-line weapon like an axe works for me because front lines are where the damage is happening the most.
Sooz
They told me I was mad when I said I was going to create a spidertable. Who’s laughing now!!!

Yeah, there's really no reason other than tradition for healers to be limited to certain weapons or fighting strategies.
Karuna's Sprite's eyes seem weird to me. Just me?

What's special about the blue armor guard? ... That might have been asked already... ... Feel like making a FAQ page?

... Chisa doesn't bring any supplies or Vei with her??

... Hmm... Do monsters respawn? Perhaps triggered by resting? ... I'll find out soon! ... Yep! ... Hmm... Might need to make myself a bestiary...

I think after the Creeping Monstrosity, you say Unwaivering, I think it's Unwavering?

Gonna keep adding to this until I get a response, and then I'll move to text files for reporting...

Flashback cutscene: "Exta help", and the Faces seem weird 'cause it's like she's standing, but she's supposed to be lying down?

The "I love her" petal scene, makes Karuna look a bit high? Or something? The relaxed eyes, the loose mouth...

Bit weird that I can take Merel back into the cave with me immediately, and no one says anything, especially since Sharon gave her the scroll to take back into the temple. ... But, did that Sharon leave immediately after the cutscene, so she can't make any objections? I dunno...

Karuna's "Until ... ring back" message doesn't use her Face. Weird that way...?

... How is the scroll not a Key Item???

... I thought the Lake Eye Temple was monsterless, 'cause the Naga live there! Why would they live in a monster-filled temple??

(Is/Are) Goddess Statue a Unique Item? I guess not, and I can build all 3 Auto-regen items?

Sort of annoying how you can lose Impulse if you don't take enough damage during a battle such that the 20% post-battle drop renders you at a lower Impulse than before...

Hmm... the Chisa and Karuna sleep chat... in the forest house. I went there before going to the castle... What does that change?? ... Also, there's only 2 beds... Who sleeps with who, and/or who sleeps on the floor? ... I guess the cutscene is that specific area only? Else it would've happened in the Cave Rest Point...

Should I be able to go into the Forest before the meeting the Naga Queen??

... What happens to humans without Naga escorts???

How'd you come up with your people and place names?

Hmm... Does it make sense for Karuna to know to call Mardelen Castle that, instead of something like "The Naga Queen's Castle"? ... Perhaps have Merel butt in and say: "It's called Mardelen Castle"? ... There is also that guy who tells you to call it that...

I am very happy that you get so in depth with questions when it comes to games I've made, Malandy. It's very flattering ^_^

However, please don't expect me to have an answer to each and every question or comment you have as you play the game. I've completed this project, and barring any major bug-squashing or a future decision to go back and make a remastered version, I consider the project completed and closed.

You're free to discuss anything with anyone else on this topic, of course, but I'm busy working on other games, so that's going to be my focus.

Thanks again for your interest! ^_^

*nods* Makes sense.

So, what is Lost for a little while when I talk to the Naga Queen? Like how defeating the Creeping Monstrosity locks me out from the Town?

... Wait... Are there PointsOfNoReturn? ... What things are LostForever? I know about the Crystallized Hope, but what else?

Item Stack limit is 99, right?

Optimize doesn't work for Accessories? 'Cause I have to manually equip my Naga Boots.

And now for some nitpicking...

Lastly, the Mardelen Castle shop, should it have more than just consumables? I expected equips due to the Fashion Naga to its right, and an Alchemy shop, due to the talk about Alchemical Nagas back in First Town...

EDIT: And I missed the lower level! Wow.

And there's more than one...

Wait... You can interact with chests after you opened them??!? Yes, and the message cycles every time you interact. Expect many repeats until you get the ~5 messages.

"I hear the Naga/humans are using alchemy these days. It's about time that they figured out how it works!" LOL!

... Do drop rates lower as you level??

I might be able to answer some questions, but certainly on all of them!

Optimize might have been coded so that it leaves out accessories, since there is a much wider array of things that category of equipment can do for a character. That is merely a theory, though.

I'm almost sure there was an equipment shop in Merdelen, somewhere. Isn't that were you get the Naga Boots? Or has my memory totally been fragmented by time and my own projects?

Naga Boots are from a chest behind the consumables shop on one of the upper levels.

But they might also be from the shop as well...
Chests closed themselves in the Fairy Forest after I got the Sprite Mirror...

And no, that was just the Lunatic Gem chest, which seems to refill itself every respawn...

And while that is a bug... It's not gamebreaking. *sigh*

Err... Nevermind. It's not just the Lunatic Gem chest... ... Or it might be, if the chest to its left is a Mirror-revealed chest... The repetitive nature of the Fairy Forest makes that hard to discern... But I did get Bones from it...

... And the monsters in each area seem to change after certain points.
So, what does changing the difficulty do, precisely? I know it changes Tidal Times, and something about damage or something, (what the change is, precisely, I dunno...) ... But what else, if anything?

Also, are all enemies eventually encountered as normal encounters? Or if I sell my Rat's Gold, then I've lost it forever?

Don't have much else to say, other than that I don't recall it ever being mentioned that using Guard increases your Impulse, which is a useful thing to know.

YES. I WISH I KNEW THAT.

But, hey, I'm on Very Easy. so Guarding is sorta silly!

EDIT:

And it's said by some guy in the Paravian Inn... Feels strange having info on a mechanic that's been there since the beginning, only explained like... a third, or halfway along the plot.
I had the same worries about alchemy materials, i saved all dropped materials for late game to find out they were mostly useless unless for end game and usables, but the main end game materials will only be found on chests and the crystalized hope shrine, unity penalized the lack of exploration because she put too much work on drawing things, agressive blade for example is an item that should be stored at least 3 of it, just look at the recipes at the end and save what you need/want.

The game was also made in a way that any person experienced on JRPGs would be able to understand everything after the naga dungeon.

About respawn, they only happen if you sleep/change locations (like dungeon>city>back to dungeon), didn't see any chest respawning items either.

And the only time i used guard was on a battle that had to wait for X turns, so i just guarded/healed.

Seriously, games don't need to be spoon fed to people, experiment things, use your head, you didn't need tutorial and in-depth understanding to play Mario, Sonic, Pokemon or Final Fantasy. I thought Dark Souls had taught that back to people. I finished Pokemon Red when i was 10 years old and didn't know english, i had to get through the first Zubat cave blinded because i didn't know how to get Flash.

Well, I know that there's a Point of No Return near the end, and so I'm trying to get all my equips and stuff, 'cause I'm sort of a collector?

But are there enough Aggressive Edges, Elemental Cards, and etc. to craft everything at least once? So that I don't have to pick and choose what I want? ... I could assume that's that true and craft willy-nilly, but that assumption is risky!

What do you think I don't understand?

You have to clear the Fairy Forest, throughly, before going to Naga Castle, and then the Mirror makes a few enemies respawn and some chests refill.

On that note, the Forest doesn't respawn...

Well, good for you, but I don't see the comparison here...

Hmm... Maybe I'll start a Luxaren Allure Trope page... ... Started: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/LuxarenAllure

The question about the effects of Difficulty is just wondering, 'cause it's sort of pointless, as I'm gonna just stick to Very Easy... ... No... If I change, I want to know if there's something fun, like enemies get extra abilities or something.

And now gonna go back to grinding for Bestiary Data and stuff...

I wanted to report a bug. The game crashed a few times during battles. The error message said: "Script 'animated Battlers' line 824: NoMethodError occurred. undefined method 'item' for nil:NilClass" Other than that, the game was nearly perfect.

But also I wanted to just thank you for making such an amazing game, and especially to thank you for making a LGBT friendly game.

Warning: Game may on occasion crash when trying to load battles. This seems to vary from computer to computer, and I've not yet been able to pinpoint the cause.

...is known, but the solution is, sadly, not known.
* psst…it’s not a bug, it’s a feature. *

Yeah, just save your game whenever you get a chance, or after every few minutes, and you should be okay.
