Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a wlw (women who love women, lesbian romance, yuri, etc) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.

Characters:

Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...

Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.

A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.

The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.

Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

Scripts used:
  • Yanfly's Ace Core Engine, Message, Menu, Equipment and Battle systems!
  • Kread-EX's Animated Battlers!
  • Fomar0153's Compatible Customisable ATB/Stamina Based Battle System!
  • Coelocanth's Item Crafting system!
  • NeonBlack's No AutoShadows

And a special thanks to Red Nova, LockeZ, Crystalgate, Archeia_Nessiah, GreatRedSpirit, and everyone else in the Rpgmaker.net forums for their fantastic suggestions, advice, and general help!

I saved after every battle, but, that's just me.

I wanted to report a bug. The game crashed a few times during battles. The error message said: "Script 'animated Battlers' line 824: NoMethodError occurred. undefined method 'item' for nil:NilClass" Other than that, the game was nearly perfect.

But also I wanted to just thank you for making such an amazing game, and especially to thank you for making a LGBT friendly game.

Thanks so much! :D As for the error, Marrend's got it right...

Warning: Game may on occasion crash when trying to load battles. This seems to vary from computer to computer, and I've not yet been able to pinpoint the cause.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to stop that bug. It's appearance and frequency seems to vary from user to user as well. ;_;

* psst…it’s not a bug, it’s a feature. *Yeah, just save your game whenever you get a chance, or after every few minutes, and you should be okay.

Yes, I hate to say it, but the best remedy is to just save often >.>;; I hope it doesn't happen too much or get too frustrating -_- I think next time (for the eventual spin-off game) I'll use Galv's script for battlers instead.

When it happened to me, I never saw an error message window. It just crashed to desktop. ... Or was the error message in a debug file somewhere?

It usually just crashes, now that I think about it. Huh.

I'm almost certain I saw an error message like that when playing this game. It's been a while, though, and it's possible I could be remembering something completely different that threw a "nil::NilClass" error.

Home-brewed scripting does that, on occasion!

It only happened to me twice during my entire playthrough, but no damage was done. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about it too much now, as what's done is done.

Something to check would be how long into a battle it happens (you probably already did get some data on this.) because I never got the bug but I was cheating so my battles only lasted 1-2 actions with the exception of the optional boss who still took 10+ turns easy.

Not a single crash.

Mine always happened when going into a non-boss battle. The battle background appears. A slight delay without any characters appearing, IIRC, and then *crash* without message.

Nope, just a name I made up ^^;; Sorry to disappoint! ^_^

The one Shout-Out I recall coming across was sometime during the Hotenshin sequence. I may not recall the exact content of the reference, but, I'm sure it was weird and unfortunate.
I made an account just to say that I have finished this game and it is awesome. I described it to someone else as "the humor of Lunar: SSSC, a combat system reminiscent of Lufia 2, and a cast full of gay." I love it.

...Since gushing's not useful, some hopefully-constructive criticisms:

  • It would have been nice to see more of Merel the would-be scholar over Merel as comic relief. Merel was my favorite character and I feel like that aspect of her was under-emphasized outside of her flashback sequence.
  • Lynette was a little too unsympathetic; her flashback helped a bit, but not really enough. She needed more pet-the-dog moments. I found myself feeling more resentful than grateful on the occasions she saved the day.
  • I loved the combat system, but it seemed to get easier towards the end of the game -- I think because the cast gets a wider array of options but the enemies don't really come up with any new tricks (I had it set to Difficult). This problem seems very common in RPGs.
  • The final dungeon. It's not exactly too long, but it has a much lower story-to-everything-else ratio than the rest of the game. I kept expecting the space to get used for
    more character development for Aurelie
, and it kept not happening (much).
  • This one I'm not sure how to describe, but: The combat visuals move fast. I found it easier to follow what was going on by just watching the stats panel. ...but then I miss out on actually looking at the pretty visuals and unfolding drama. And that feels like a shame.

And some specific good stuff:

  • The impulse system (and impulse decay in particular) was very well done. It solved a problem way too many RPGs have: Creating a limited resource that you actually use, instead of saving it for the boss.
  • Enemies using stronger attacks over time is something I don't think I've ever seen done outside of boss fights in other games, and I like it.
  • Loved the shoutouts. The Lavos-spawn expy was particularly amusing (CT is one of my favorite games).
  • The writing was good all around. Did a great job of taking a simple story and making it engaging.

I went in expecting something where the "game" was an excuse for the yuri. Instead I got a genuinely good game that just happened to have a yuri theme. For something that's (as far as I can tell?) purely a hobbyist project, it's amazingly well put-together.

Is there a patreon or tip jar associated with LA? The world needs more good yuri games and I want to support it.

Thank you so so so much for getting in touch and giving me all these comments and feedback. "The humor of Lunar: SSSC, a combat system reminiscent of Lufia 2, and a cast full of gay" is pretty high praise, as those are all amazing games :DDDDDD

Yes, this is very much a hobbyist project! I made this purely for fun and for others to enjoy ^_^ I am so glad it holds up!

Like Marrend said, I do indeed have a Patreon for those who would like to support me as I go forth and make more RPGs, both yuri and non-yuri (but there's definitely gonna be a lot more yuri in my output as I love it XD).

Thank you again for the wonderful words and feedback! :DDDD

I try. Good criticism is hard to get sometimes.

I'm curious if Impulse was intentionally modelled on Lufia 2's IP system, or if it's just a case of convergent evolution.

Cookies have been placed in the cookie jar, assuming I worked the site correctly. It seems Patreon has no way to make a one-time payment, and I get antsy about monthly payments, so in the interests of honesty I should say it probably won't last forever.

I see a fanart page up in the banner. I can't draw, but I do write sometimes and people tell me I'm good at it. And I see a grand total of zero LA stories on FFNet and AO3. That cries out to be fixed. I think I will make with the fixing.

On LA Fanfics, what do we know about the mainland? Note that I haven't gotten to the second Broken Bridge, so if it's spoilery, then nevermind. ... What is the girl-thing you fight in the temple? A Wooden Golem??

What will be amazing is if I finish in less than a year. :-P I have a terrible history of writing at a pace that envies snails. Dead ones.

...I've been trying to break that history, though. Let's see if I can. After a couple days to think about it, I'm pretty sure I know what I want to do.

(is there a way to export the game's script? It would help with checking canon compliance. I can write a program to do it if I have to, but figured I'd ask before possibly reinventing the wheel)
