Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a wlw (women who love women, lesbian romance, yuri, etc) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.


Characters:


Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...


Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.


A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.


The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.


Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

And just a big thanks to everyone who wanted the game on Steam, you're the real heroes XD Given this game's age I was little hesitant to put it up but enough people contacted me about it after W&U's release that I figured why not ^_^

This is going to sound kind of silly, but: What's the intended spelling of Handarein/Handaria? It's referenced twice in-game, but with two different spellings.

(I used 'Handarin' from memory, so I got it doubly wrong)

Unrelated: I just noticed the main room names in the last dungeon. I don't remember if they were visible in-game, but I see what you did there and I like it. :-P

They weren't visible in-game, but yeah, I named a lot of them after last bosses. For those interested:

Right after posting that I noticed Lake of Blood -> Terminal Dogma -> "Don't Be Here". Nice.

You know, here's something that might be useful.

I and (I think?) a couple of others complained that the final dungeon was too long. I'm looking at the way it was organized in RPGMaker, and I note that "Gate World" and "The Final Dungeon" are categorized separately -- but when I was actually playing, I felt like they were one and the same. Actually, everything from Darkloft onwards felt like a single dungeon, and I'm pretty sure it was in that sense that I felt like it was "too long".

But looking at the game internals, it doesn't seem like that was your intent. Was it? Maybe the issue was never "final dungeon too long" but "insufficient break between multiple dungeons that were intended to be logically separate".

Just a thought.

Yeah, I think that's true. I meant for them to be separate, but they come one right after the other, which creates the feeling of a huge slog. If I ever do something like that again, I'd need more of a break area between them (though given the setting, that would be hard XD) or have a larger scene at the end to separate them in the players' minds.

I feel like I've learned a lot about dungeon-pacing and what to consider when I make final dungeons, so hopefully future ones won't feel so incredibly long XD;;;

The final dungeon is supposed to be long and difficult. It's the last challenge. It's the culmination of everything you, the player, has fought for and acquired. It's there to put you to the ultimate test because, god dammit, the holy grail is right there.

But I'd better, since I'm partially to blame for all the complaints about your last dungeon.
Make a dungeon that is ten floors and every map is 500x500, that is how a true final dungeon should be xD

Nah, if you don't like it, don't play it, I say. ^_^ I don't want you to force yourself through it if its not going to be something you enjoy.

And no worries, my friend. I'm responsible for my decisions. I took your suggestion because I like long final dungeons :D It's not something you deserve any sort of blame for. It just so happens that I am also a worrywart who wants to please everyone, so you have to put up with me trying to think about how to improve things when players don't like my decisions. XD;
Yeah, I'm not sure how it would work narratively either. Fortunately I get to punt that question because I'm not the creator. :-P

Dyhalto: I'm all in favor of difficult; I was really happy to see a Hard mode and even happier when it actually killed me once or twice. Long is considerably more questionable.

I'm not sure why it bugged me in LA and not in, say, FFIV, where the finale is structurally very similar (Lunar caves = Castle Darkloft, upper core = Gate World, lower core = Final Dungeon, only one minor break in each sequence). Maybe it's just because FFIV was a longer game overall.

But no, seriously, it's on the list. I'm just pouring a lot of time into VE right now because I want to actually finish it. Other people's RM games are the kind of thing I like to set time aside for, for immersion's sake.

I don't think the story elements need to put anyone off if they're interested in the gameplay; you can always just mash the button until everyone shuts up and you can go back to killing things. :V
Hey unity, this might help with your crahsing problem. I am at pehl mountain path and when I go back and forth from there to the rest stop to farm the monsters that respawn the game crashes. In order of events, I kill the monster, go to the rest stop, get the items outside and talk to everybody before going in. Get the cutsecene, talk to everybody inside then go back to pehl mountain path to farm the monster but first I save then load the battle and the game crashes. After that I load up my save file, kill the monster, go to the rest stop to respawn him in, then I kill him and respawn him in and the game crashes. I don't know if this has anything to do with the crash but I was facing 4 bloodlust slugs before it crashed and I can provide my save file if needed and if I knew how.

Hmm. Not sure if that would help or not, but it might be good to see if the same battle will crash, regardless of what computer its on. If you're able to provide the save file, that would be great! I know back when I was playing the game crashed near that rest area too. So who knows. Sucks because I had not saved for awhile...not the smartest thing on my end. I need to play through the game and actually beat it this time. Might do that tonight. Good luck finding whatever is making your game crash Uni! :D I am rooting for you!
