Karuna and Aurelie were friends. Then Aurelie went off and found the infernal armor of Ellicide and became the Evil Overlord Darkloft. Karuna is the only one who can stop her. But Karuna loves Aurelie, even now.

Luxaren Allure is a medium-sized RPG (12-20 hours) that follows Karuna and her allies as they explore the isles of Luxaren and confront a former friend who now wants nothing but destruction. This is a wlw (women who love women, lesbian romance, yuri, etc) game with an all female playable cast.

Also included are:

  • Title Screen Art, Face Portraits and Illustrations by M-3-1 (http://m-3-1.deviantart.com/)
  • Side View CTB Battles, with animated heroes and (semi)animated enemies!
  • New tilesets and battlers, made just for this game!
  • No random encounters. All enemies are visible on screen, and each triggers a different enemy party.
  • No RTP needed! Most resources are custom, and everything's included with the download.
  • A simple crafting system.
  • A short, character driven story that plays with the standard RPG formula.

Characters:

Karuna has been training with the School of the Unwavering Blade for years, and is considered the best choice for defeating the evil of Darkloft. She's serious, strong-headed, and confident, but her reasons for choosing to be a hero might not exactly be selfless...

Chisa is Karuna's self-proclaimed squire. She's timid but very strong, if a little naive. Her loyalty to Karuna is unquestionable.

A mage from the Naga clan, and one of the few of her kind that does not view humans with suspicion. Carefree and laid-back, she quickly finds herself fascinated with Karuna's quest and even more fascinated with Karuna's squire.

The great-granddaughter of the paladin hero Estes, Lynette is a well-balanced warrior from Rezael who has trained for years to master both the physical and magical arts to make up for the fact that she didn't inherit her family's holy magic powers.

Now known as Overlord Darkloft, the evil one who has placed the isles of Luxaren in dire peril. Karuna has so many questions for her. What will happen when they finally meet again?

Scripts used:
  • Yanfly's Ace Core Engine, Message, Menu, Equipment and Battle systems!
  • Kread-EX's Animated Battlers!
  • Fomar0153's Compatible Customisable ATB/Stamina Based Battle System!
  • Coelocanth's Item Crafting system!
  • NeonBlack's No AutoShadows

And a special thanks to Red Nova, LockeZ, Crystalgate, Archeia_Nessiah, GreatRedSpirit, and everyone else in the Rpgmaker.net forums for their fantastic suggestions, advice, and general help!

Sooz my have been more than a little sarcastic with that post.

*Edit: I dunno if there is a "right thing to do" in this situation. Being more transparent about the game's content might help it find the audience it wants.

maybe deep down I'm just jelly of the fact there is no good gay male rpgs will not without them wanting to hump every moveing thing with a dick that is why can't there be a deep caring gay male in rpgs (Well besides the ones you make in some open world rpgs) :)

Be the change you want to see in the world!

@unity I was afraid of this you seem to think i was attacking your decisions for your game. Look it's not my game and i respect the fact you worked hard on a game i know it's not easy.
Also i want to make it clear that i am still playing the game and the issues i have with the game are not big issues just something i wanted to bring up.
As for the last part i can't tell if you are being passive aggressive or not :)
But really all i would do is put something on the lines of saying all pc's are yuri or bi or whatever anyway as a gay male maybe deep down I'm just jelly of the fact there is no good gay male rpgs will not without them wanting to hump every moveing thing with a dick that is why can't there be a deep caring gay male in rpgs (Well besides the ones you make in some open world rpgs) :)

No worries, Ryan. I didn't mean to come off as defensive. And unlike Sooz, I wasn't joking. I was honestly wondering if I needed to label it better.

I would also like to see more RPGs with deep caring male gay relationships. I may try to make one of those in the future myself ^_^
I think you can highlight it as a warning, but you don't have to make it too explicit (and definitely not like Sooz's...).

I think the game's transparent enough about it's theme to be honest, and I don't see a need for any kind of disclaimer.

I can't really take ryan's point of a lack of a male character seriously as valid critique considering the cast list is right there on the front of the game page. That's like playing a horror game and complaining about being scared. I can understand the second gripe, though, even if I don't agree at all. Ryan, for what it's worth, there's a lot more depth to Chisa's and Merel's relationship as the game goes on, so no, there's nothing "gimmicky" about it.

That being said, unity, if you really want to do something, I'd suggest just adding a quick sentence about Merel's affection. It IS a pretty significant part of her character after all, and that would send the message across without feeling like a warning/disclaimer.

Again though, I don't think any warning or explicit disclaimer is necessary.

EDIT: Congrats on 100 subs, unity!!

ryan, it's against site rules to multi-post. In the future, hit the handy-dandy Edit button below your initial post and add to it.

The new version that fixes the glitch is now live. Just download it and move your save files from the old one to the new one. ^_^

Ryan you might want to factor in that there are not many blatantly homosexual games out there, and this game's focus on it as a "gimmick" isn't really that bad of a thing in that regard?

Also, Sooz, you win the internet.
LMAO SOOZ I LOVE YOU

I have a lot of Words to say about what's going on atm, but given that this isn't my game page, I'll refrain. What I will say, though, to unity and all other creators who make shit without an audience of Dudes in mind:

It is okay to make something that not everyone is going to like. It is great to make something that YOU want to see, because there will be other folks like you who want to see it as well. You will get flak for making something that goes against the popular model of games, especially if the thing you make is really good (since, like, why would you make something GOOD for audiences other than the dominant one????).

You don't have to even acknowledge that flak if you don't want to. Not all feedback is created equal, and when the feedback is stuff in the same vein as "why are there no BOY PONIES in MY LITTLE PONY, a CHILDREN'S SHOW SPECIFICALLY CREATED FOR LITTLE GIRLS", it is mad chill to sweep it into the bin if you don't want to engage with it. I say this as someone involved in a project that has gotten flak for not being immediately accessible to people outside the audience for whom it was intended!

Basically, unity: you have done nothing wrong here and there is 0 need to justify yourself. You made a cool thing here that people outside of what I assume the intended audience of 1) women 2) who are LGB have been able to enjoy, despite it being about women who are LGB. If there are people outside the intended audience you CAN'T enjoy your game for this reason, that's their problem, not yours!

ANYWAY THAT'S MY 2 CENTS

EDIT: and then I read the rest of what ryan wrote and YEAH MAN LOOK: you go make a cool game, pal! You can do the thing, I would play a wicked cool RTP gay game okay ;___;
This is a Cool Community and I'm sure if you asked for some pointers on how to get started, you'd be able to pull it off! LA is a v inspiring game since YEAH it is an example of a game about marginalized peeps being made and being successful anyway!

The rest of my post still stands, tho, since while I HOPE this is the last time something like this comes up wrt LA, it might not be. OTL Anyway yes everyone go out and make cool games, your Aunkle Em believes in you.

i've been avoiding notifications on this since i didn't want to get anything spoiled but i accidentally clicked one just now and all i can say in response to this is 'wow'

also everything emmych said, i'm backing up

edit: one day we'll be playing Gayvians, emmych and i's gayme about gay birdmen.* clearly. so you can look forward to that?

*there is nothing in development aside from a pm chain. but who knows...

You're magical to me.

Thank you so much emmych! ;_; And you too, Craze! I guess I get a little worried about things like this and want to make sure people know what they're getting in to, and it's very comforting to hear words about not needing to justify myself when I make the kind of games I want to make. Seriously, THANK YOU! ;_;

And I would totally play a game about gay birdmen!
Sooz

Yeah like I can totally sympathize with the desire to have More Gay* but doing it in the context of wanting More Dudes in a lady-centric game is kinda bleh. (Like, if I rolled up in a gay-centric game and demanded some hetero action, that would be me being the douche there, no matter how delectable the dudes may be to my hetero libido.)

I would recommend some Gay Dudes games but I am totally uninterested in romances not involving at least one ladytype, so I AM NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I hear Craze has some kind of supply there? Maybe? SOMEONE FIND SOME GAY STUFF FOR THIS POOR DUDE.

*
Spoiler my main desire for more ladyromance is probably mainly due to a desire for more ladytypes in general.

ETA: Gayvians = Best title ever proposed.
I might be planning awesome gay game~ MAYBE. (I am, but no one will see it for forever~)
LOOK CRAZE u still wanna make Gayvians? We can make Gayvians. You say the word, I write up a story steamy enough to make cloacae quiver across the globe. I IMMEDIATELY REGRET PHRASING IT LIKE THAT

but yeah man hmu let's make a gay bird game

AND HEY UNITY I'm happy to say the thing! <3 Glad it helped <3333

@Gourd_Clae: look, pal, now that you've said it, you HAVE to share it~ >W>
Hmm, lots of posts since I last posted.

First of all, Unity thanks for the quick response and the fix. Some day if I have enough time I might replay this game on Hard, and if so the changes will be helpful. And even if I don't, they'll be available for others.

Now, regarding the cast and the double yuri romances, I don't really have an issue with either.

Yes, the cast is all women. But there are plenty of games with all (or mostly all) dudes, and overall the video game industry is still lacking a bit when it comes to quality games with decent female protagonists (I mean specifically female protagonists, not games that let you completely customize your avatar in all ways). This is also really a bit of an issue that goes beyond video games, but I digress.

So there's nothing wrong with a game focused on women and relationships between women. Heck, it's kind of nice to see.

And same thing with the yuri romances. If there was a game with two het romances, I don't think anyone would bat an eye. Well, I say "if", but there are plenty of games that do have multiple het romances. Change Chisa and Karuna to guys, and no one would think them both having romances would be a "gimmick," or that Luxaren Allure needs some special warning to let people know there is more than one het romance in the game.

It would just be a game with a bit of a focus on romance, nothing more.

Yah, people can point out that in the real world, there are more straight people than gay/bi people, but this is a fantasy game with magic and dark lords and nagas, a work of fiction, and there's no reason it has to conform to real world demographics.

I do think there is a fair point that there aren't exactly a lot of games focusing on gay men and their relationships out there. There is a serious lack there.

And I also think that, in the AAA gaming world especially, companies may be more likely to include female x female romances than male x male romances. The reason being the stereotypical straight guy reaction to them. IE two dudes kissing: "GROSS!", two girls kissing: "HOT!" I definitely wonder how much of a role this played into stuff like the very first Mass Effect having a lesbian romance, but it not being until the 3rd game that there was a gay romance.

But, well, that's another issue entirely. The lack of gay men in video games IS an problem, but it's not the fault of free RPG maker women-focused lesbian RPGs. A game like Luxaren Allure isn't the problem. (Rather, it's part of the solution to a different problem).

Anyways, I may have rambled on a bit, hope it what I said makes sense.

You can't expect any level of reality from a game with an enemy called "Disco Inferno." You just can't.
