Announcement

A new year, a fresh start! or "How I found my motivation after a year of not doing shit."

It's been a while.

I guess that's a resonable statement, though still a vast understatement, all things considered.
'Soon' - yeah, sure. How soon can soon be?
Or, rather, how much time can pass before 'soon' starts becoming nothing but wishful thinking?

Why am I even writing this much feelsy stuff?
Because I still care.

You see, life is rough and life loves to see me and my sarcasm suffer.
Always has been this way, always will be. Stuff happened.
My friend got better, but other things got worse.
I finished school, which is a plus, but the rest of the year was very...unfortunate, to put it lightly.

But my motivation came back, will probably come back even more after I finally hold my tiny kittens in my arms.
Two wonderful British Shorthair boys. They are pure sugar, I tell you.

I got better at drawing. And I think after all this waiting I can finally say what direction this project will take - I owe you that one.
And thanks to my New Years Resolution plan, I have figured out a safe way to work on everything that I want to work on!
Exciting.

From today onwards, this project is back in action!
Slowly, but surely, it will evolve into what is well-known under the name of 'Sidescroller'.
(Kind of. Like Dreaming Mary. The side without the scrolling. You get what I mean.)
2D.
Awesome backgrounds and sprites.
Completely reworked.
The Haunted World 2.0! ...or something like that.

Hope you stick around.
And Happy New Year!

Long time no see!

...this project isn't dead!

I just had a lot of stress during the last few months and had to come up with a solution for a problem that I would have to face sooner or later: Tilesets.

What to do if you need a ton, but can't fit all of them into your game because of the engine? You upgrade, of course!

The Haunted World: Hell's Gate will move from RPG Maker VX, to VX ACE.

This means a long time of waiting for you guys, of course, since I have to redo almost all of the events whilst re-creating what I have so far. But it makes it easier for me to implement all the new stuff and get rid of the bugs.

The next update will be the complete first chapter. This might take a long time (a few months), but it will solve a future-issue and will give you wonderful people a better experience of the game! Stay tuned!

Voice Acting Auditions: Now Open!

Voice Acting Auditions start now!

First, I will state what you guys need in order to participate in the auditions! Then we will go on to the roles, and at the end you will find all of the details regarding the process of Voice Acting for this game.

The Basics:

- have Skype

- have enough freetime

- have fun (!)

- do not spoil anything about the role you voice, if you get a role

- have a program that lets you record your voice

- send me your voice sample through the ask box on tumbl/mail through rpgmaker.net

The Characters:

Fukui, Lucy - 17
Voiced by me.

Tsukino, Aiko - 18 Audition line: "Hey there~ Come on, this will be fun!"
Rather high-pitched voice, energetic and a bit loud. Sounds excited about almost everything but Priam.

Takahashi, Priam - 18 Audition line: "Tch, whatever. Do what you want. But...you know...forget it."
Rough voice, a bit on the dark side. Mumbles a lot. Uses some sort of slang.

Sato, Haru - 19 Audition line: "Did you see that? Woah, just...woah! So cool!"
Energetic voice, quite cute for a guy. Can be voiced by a girl. Speaks like a kid and gives almost everyone nicknames.

Kagome, Kazuma - 19 Audition line: "Uhh...what do you mean? Didn't get it, I think. Ehehe..."
A goofy voice, low-pitched. Speaks like his intelligence matches his math skills...he does not have any math skills.

Kagome, Kazuna - 19 Audition line: "What happened? Are you alright?"
A gentle, soft and quiet voice. Very polite, but wants to get to the point as soon as possible.

Wakahisa, Hisao - 18 Audition line: "...how long, Doctor? Please, tell me. Everything is okay, right?"
Coughs a lot. Sounds sick all the time and a bit emotionless. Almost never uses short forms, speaks politely and uses words that seem a bit awkward.

Hayate Audition line: "A haunted world it is indeed..."
A dark, low-pitched voice. Sounds sarcastic, but speaks like a gentleman.

Chieko Audition line: "Yup! There are maaaany different dimensions."
Young, loud, but in a way, mature. Not softspoken, but rather cocky.

Kin Audition line: "This? This is purrfect...I'm not kitten you, you know."A golden cat with a voice that sounds like honey. Purrs like a cat, speaks like a cat and makes his own cat jokes.

Secret Male Character Audition line: "I'm walking on this earth for a long, long time now..."Sounds a bit depressed all the time and has a rough voice.

Secret Female Character Audition line: "I do not know what you want, but I know what you need."
Has a gentle voice, one that sounds a bit ghostly.

Voice Acting Process:

As soon as I know that your voice fits the character you auditioned for I will let you know through your ask box and give you the details of my Skype name, so that we can stay in contact. Should two of you be perfect for a certain character I will contact you and provide you with more lines, so that you can show of different emotions.

As soon as we have a few people ready to voice act I will open a Skype group - we will hold meetings every now and then where I will provide you with more lines and information for your character. You do not need to attend these meetings if you can't, but it will help a lot. Do not worry: I will let you know when the next meeting starts - you will have at least a few days to let me know if you can make it or not.

Since I live in Germany I'm living in the Central European Time Zone. I will give you information based on that time zone. When I state 10:00pm that means it will be 10:00pm in Germany. You have to look what time it is in your country.

Should you spoil information regarding the game and/or your character, you are immediately out of the Voice Acting Group. Speaking with fellow Voice Actors about the upcoming events/your characters is fine though, but ONLY in our Skype group.

And the most important thing: Always have fun voice acting!

Love you, guys!

Game Design

Character Sprites - Cute or 'Realistic'?

Hello there, guys! I've got another question for you - and this time it involves the artistic side of the game. There are a lot of different styles for horror games. Especially RPG Maker horror games. A lot of them are cute, some are a bit more realistic when it comes to sprites. Others are just plain weird. I like to keep away from the plain weird ones, but the choice between realistic and cute is still there, nothing is finally decided just yet.

So, why the sudden blog entry about sprites when I used the more realistic ones up until now? Because my artist just send me a sprite sheet for Hisao - he told me he could need the practice in pixel art and that he would gladly help me with the sprites. Which is wonderful, since that takes a lot of pressure away from me. We have different styles, though.

So, have a comparison picture:

Left side - LunaElto: Here you can see LunaElto's sprite of Hisao. It's cute, it's cuddly. Needs a final few changes to not clash with the tiles so much, but...it's so darn adorable. And, in a way, it all really fits. But then you realise that the game features gory elements, deaths and just straight up not so nice things. Do you think a chibi-like sprite would take some of the atmosphere away from the game?

Right side - Schwer-von-Begriff: That's my sprite of Hisao, as you already know. I use rips of a game that I can't remember the name of right now as a base - and then I change more or less everything that once was the base. I just need the basic walk animation, that's all. The walking animation isn't as smooth as the one from LunaElto, but the sprite is a lot more realistic. Can you live with a walking animation that seems a bit robotic in exchange for more realistic graphics?

What kind of sprite do you prefer?

Collectibles - Memories

A feature that I would like to implement into the game are collectibles that will grant you interesting rewards if you collect enough.

I'm not a fan of pointlessly finding stuff, though, so I'd like to give them an actual reason for being there. The point is I want to give each collectible a memory that the character that finds it relives.

This will:
- give the characters backstories and personality
- show different aspects for each character that the story alone can't provide but isn't actually needed for the game experience
- give rewards for side-quests
- give the player a reason to explore
- unlock extra features (example: bonus chapters, bonus scenes and a CG gallery to name a few)

So what do you guys think? "Hell yeah!" OR "Oh God, no!" ?

Request

Menu Savepoint or Fixed Savepoints?

I am here today with a small question regarding the save option of the game.
It is simple, really.
All I want to know from you guys is one thing:
What do you like more?
Please comment down below what you would like to see.

1. Menu Savepoint
Save through the menu, simple and easy.

2. Fixed Savepoints
Find tables with journals to save your game.

Miscellaneous

Last Main Character

Because the game obviously got a lot of views + new subscribers in the last few days I decided to show you guys the last main character.

Hayate

A demon that watches over the Otherrealm. It is his job to help ghosts fulfill their last wish so they can move on. His powers are three times larger than those of normal demons - and his ego matches his strength perfectly. Despite this Hayate is an honest man, a smooth talker and someone that understands even the deepest fears of the living. He refers to himself as a noble man. His spoken words have an aura of mystery. Some say if you look him into his dead eye your soul will forever remain in his hands.
