This short game was done for the 2-Day DO SOMETHING Challenge.

This game was build on the demo of Saba-Kan's Random Dungeons script for RMVXA, and it's the only custom resource it uses at all. Rest of it, it's 100% RTP - Except for the horribly composed town theme wich was made by me.

There are two versions. If you're looking for the small, non-rtp one, just look at the downloads section.

Heheh, expect a tiny bit of bugs.
Also, expect it to be hard. ;A;
And rather grind heavy >< (don't sue me. But I guess DCs are about grinding after all-)

A few things about the system:

ºEVERY TIME YOU LEAVE THE TOWER YOUR LEVEL IS RESETTED TO 1. But you do keep the stat-ups gained through fragments, so use this to your tactical advantage.

ºMost equipment give percentual boosts to stats, instead of the more-commonly used point increases.

ºThere is a sort of class-mix-and-match system included, in the form of Shards, Souls and Tomes - and races. You get two humans, a monster and an Esper. They can equip Shards, Souls and Tomes, their respective "classes".

ºRandomness is a heavy factor. The floors of the tower are randomly generated through Saba-Kan's Random Dungeon systems.

ºA majority of the equipments offer temporary skills - especially classes. Use this to make the perfect build to your character.

Well, play it and have fun! It was just I playing with the script, but I do plan on making a serious dungeon crawler eventually.

Saba-Kan bug?

I want to rebuild this, but for some reason the demo I have upped to the site won't work properly ):
Precisely, Saba-Kan's Random Dungeon Generator is bugging on me. And not only with this game, Charlotte is bugging as well. I have no idea why, though. They all worked perfectly fine in the past.
It'll be hard for me to work on them if that happens. And the dungeon system is pretty much the backbone of the gameplay, it's absolutely impossible to scrap it ):

I found a bug when playing where I couldn't exit the skills menu for the second character for some reason. As they had no skills in there I couldn't do anything but reset the game. So... that's a thing. It was in the fight, first floor, far right room with slime and bats, if that helps.

Turns out it was my computer.

While I enjoy the battle aspects of the game, the mapping in the town definitely needs quite a bit of work.
Heheh, I really didn't care about the town at all! I should've.
I'll rework the town when I release the next version.
I'll also make the NPCs actually coherent and make actual quests.
And give you the ability to name the characters. Perhaps...Pick races? Hm.
Thankies~

An interesting game. Here are my thoughts.

-The dungeon crawling part is great, with the map and the roaming monsters that move when you move.

-I like being able to customize my skillsets and the different "races" who use different items to do that is a cool idea.

-Like you said, it's a bit hard. But I can't say that's really a negative as it's a dungeon crawler, after all.

-It seems completely devoid of story, aside from the townspeople's gossip. I didn't expect much of one since it was made in two days, but it def. feels weird to just be put into the game without any introduction of who these people are and what's going on.

-The characters' personal info in the status screen doesn't seem to match who they are.

-I can't seem to use healing moves from the menu, which is frustrating.

-There are a lot of text boxes and equipment descriptions where the text gets cut off.

Overall, I'm interested. I'll definitely check it out when you make a full-fledged dungeon crawler, because there are a lot of great ideas here.
Adressing your extremely insightful thoughts (only the negative ones, thanks for bringing the good points as well)

I got a lil` bit nervous at the battle formulae. Battles become crippingly easy with a few stat boosts. @_@ this is making me crazy. It`s meant to be hard, but it`s a bit harder than what I wanted at level 1, and once you overlevel a little it becomes ridiculously easy.

As a matter of fact, the game throws you at the town pretty much the same way that Diablo 1 did - even the town layout is plainly stolen from that. That`s because I really didn't really wanna bother coming up with a decent town and stories. I shall adress that in future releases.

YEAH I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO CHANGE THAT HAHAH i'm not used to VX Ace

Actually you can - only magic, though. Skills use TP, and they're battle-only thanks to that.

I thought I got rid of them all, but it was just the beginning omg @-@

Thank you very much! I really appreciate your thoughts, and now it made me think on reworking carolyne instead of moving quickly to a proper full fledged DC. Hmm. Thankies! ~ <3

I don't think it being hard at the start is a bad thing if people are expecting that, because fighting against the odds in a dungeon crawler can be a lot of fun. But becoming too powerful too quickly, yeah, that could def. be a problem.

Now that you mention it, you're right. That sort of thing really isn't uncommon in this sort of game. I just found myself saying "I wanna know who these characters are and what they're like." But I'm a sucker for character-focused games, and a dungeon crawler usually isn't that, so it was more a bias on my part than a good critique, in retrospect ^^;;

Oh, whoops! Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

You're very welcome! :D I've subscribed and will be following this game. Whether you want to rework this before you move on to something else is, of course, something you'll have to decide, but I'd honestly be happy playing either, so I think you should do what you find most interesting ^_^

Actually an old project of mine had practically this as a main design law - I made each and every NPC completely in depth, with complete, lively personalities, stories (even since childhood), relationships and etc.
...but I lost the game files after I finished the first dungeon. This makes me horribly sad. I even had multiple Power Point presentations, for my characters - now very little of what I've done remains in my mind.

This town theme you've got going seems oddly reminiscent of "Kata Verdance" from Draug's Resurrection (Whose gamepage is down, sadly). I mean, there are differences, obviously, but...

Anyway, I guess I gave the game a few attempts. The low starting HP/MP seriously messes with me, I must admit.

Perhaps. If you analyze the chords, they're simplistic and overused - my musical knowledge is pretty low.

I was thinking on giving a slight boost to initial stats... Heh.
Perhaps only to Hp? To tell the truth I need to remake stats and battle formulae, they're too prone to unbalancing.
A weird hybrid you have here. I really didn't expect going to a battle screen with this layout!
The random number of enemies may make for an overly strong ambush (which is perfectly fine), it just makes me wonder what the battle concept is supposed to be about.
And additionally, once you flee from battle, the number of enemies in the group changes. So technically you can run for any strong encounter until you get groups of only one or two enemies.

A dungeon crawler utilizing neither real item usage nor party building has - imho - the weaknesses of both. Difficulty is not a problem as long as you can either
A: use tactic to your advantage // defeat enemies anyway
or B: have ways of securing better weapons/items for your next run. (passing them one, warping them out of the dungeon like in baroque).

A dungeon crawler is not solely about grinding.

As it is you can do neither. You can't build yourself a party, you can't skill your character, you can't get any equipment (hell, the stuff you can buy in town is pretty worthless most of the time).
As a sidenote, why does the buckler have the same defensive properties as a steel shield double the price?

Status upgrades are too much of a luck factor, imho. And there lie too few weapons/armors .. potions alone in battles where you die with 1-2 hits have little purpose in it. Only outside of it.

Some traps may bring you to a floor above you. I happened to step on two right after each other and was left in a pitchblack area and had to restart the game.

I may play through it and write a review, I love me some dungeoncrawling.

.... aaaand I've got a whitescreen after I return to Felsam. Defeated that knight, brought guy home. But can't do a thing (except open the menu and save, lol)
Can you tell me how to fix that? I could go kill this guy again, but it saps on the motivation...

Someone understand how this dungeon works .. I realize the randomness in placing special areas is neat, but going down continously means you get up again! Kind of confusing to reach 2F by leaving 10F.

Anyway. It gets ridiculously easy once you have a full set of armor/weapons. And shards do the rest, I guess.
There is no real progression in the dungeon as the few more difficult areas are easy to avoid and are only one stage to begin with, not multiple levels.

Edit2: Yes. It is broken. You cannot complete your first quest.
mehhhhhhhhhhhh yeah I made it in 2 days for a game event D:
thanks for all the feedback, i'll keep in in mind as (and when) I work the remake lolo

There are a looooooooooooooooot of flaws, so many it's basically impossible to fix them -- 'tis why I decided to simply purge the project and start anew :D
Well, despite all its flaws, it's pretty fun! You wouldn't think it was done in two days. Kudos for that alone!
Good fast battle animations (which is a MUST) and the dungeon generation itself is pretty nifty.

The way the stairs work is just a little bit confusing at first. Specifically the ones up.
I will write a proper review I think. I've had this one on the list for so long.

Edit: Review will be up soon! It contains a lot of general rambling, I hope you can take something from it.
