Part of the RPG Maker Classics Archive: an initiative to upload classic RM games so they are not forgotten.

Developed by: Flare
Date of Release: 2001

Romancing Walker is a romantic RPG that follows the story of Ryle, a young man looking for his purpose. Leaving on a journey of self-discovery, Ryle eventually uncovers not only the secret of his past, but one of world-shattering importance. Joining Ryle in his travels are a bevy of lovely ladies who he may choose to romance and bond with through interactions within the story.

Romancing Walker was made in rm2k and utilizes hand-drawn anime sequences in battle, as well as pictures during important cut-scenes. The biggest draw of the game, however, is the dating simulation which allows you to bond with the other party members. The choices you make during certain scenes will either draw them closer or push them away.

While the game does suffer from 'Engrish' and bad grammar in some parts, it is considered a classic and one of the few games of its time that is complete, with a decent epic tale, interesting characters and interaction between your party. Add in the back-then great graphics in and out of battle and you have a game that is well-remembered as one of the best.

I've never had an issue with this but I know some have. Try right-mouse clicking and choosing Properties, then choose the compatibility tab and change the compatibility to an earlier Windows module. (XP should work, 2000 definitely should)

And remember to download the RTP files for RM2000 and install them too. They also shouldn't be hard to find on the internet via google. Make sure to grab the English ones, though, or the names won't sync up properly. Good luck!

I found two threads that might be relevant:

RPG Maker 2000 Help?

Mind, I only briefly skimmed these. I'm not sure how much help you can get from either of them.

*Edit: How did I miss Liberty's post?
kelp guys, "cannot open file Royal." What is Royal and where can I get it?
Royal is the name of one of the System sets. It should be part of the RTP (which is required to play many of the older games). You'll have to do your own search for the RTP as it's a site rule that we cannot post links to it. Google RM2K RTP and you should find it.

(If you already have the 2k RTP installed, it may be that you have a different version. If this is the case you'll probably need to download the other version, too. The thing is that because the game has so many RTP files used in it, just giving you the one file won't do much good as the game will keep asking you for other ones.)
Oh wow! I remember this game. One of the 2k games I enjoyed back in the day. Have to write a review sometime.
Man, this game sure has aged pretty well even after all these years; I’m really having a blast reliving this sucker again for the umpteenth time, now. Sure, it doesn’t have any fancy overlays or even any well cleverly coded mini-games in it like today's stuff – but it's still a bucketload of fun. :)

I think I’ll try getting an ending with Caris or Mariel this time around, seeing how I’m already done so with Hayumi, Orubia, Latyss, Fina and Lucitta, so this time I have something to shoot for.

(Also, too bad there wasn’t a custom costume option to switch Ryle’s normal attire with a pimp’s attire and just change his name to “Mackdaddy” for the whole game. Hmmmm…then again I could always just put in there myself… *malicious laughter*)

(Yeah...that could work, lol.)

I installed another 2K RTP because it kept on getting the Royal Error every time I read a sign, and now the text won't even show up. It doesn't show up no matter what I install. And The Royal Error keeps happening. What is going on?
I originally had this problem too, even after installing the RTP.

What you can do is just go into the “System” folder, copy the “Material” file and just rename the duplicate “Royal” and that should fix the problem. For some stupid reason, the royal systemset wasn’t included with the game but everything else here was. Weird, huh?
There is an issue with the version I downloaded (which I downloaded the day I sent this).

When I click the RPG_RT.exe icon, an error message pops up, reading "harmony.dll not found".
Google harmony.dll > download > put in folder > profit.
I remember this game. I liked it a lot. =D If I recall, I choose Orubia.
I just tried playing it and I got an error, DirectDraw Error(DDERR_UNSUPPORTED)
i just finished the game. good. i like the ending of hayami
Need some help - i have finished the scene in the Abyss and returned to Lavas but cannot enter the underground room- had no problem before going to the abyss- tried re- installing the game but still the same thing happens - any suggestions as I would like to finish the game- thanks- went back and now game is working - BUT can anyone tell me where to find the Holy Sword - it says in the castle but which one and where
Hello, new to RPG maker games and I'm having a problem with it, I'm at volcana island just after saving the castle near the beggining, after I leave my party and go to the inn I talk to the inkeeper, but my character then proceeds to run into the wall behind him and just stops with the music playing in the background. Anyone know what's wrong and can tell me how to fix it?
You will have to start from your previous save point and then talk to the innkeeper facing her from the front- not to the side or the game freezes- this should then work
Well, that doesn't make me feel stupid at all.
Thanks for your help
Question!
I can start the game and everything, but I can't do anything but hit the "Alt" key as a select. I can't move the selection bar either. When I get into the game, again I can't move. The only thing I can do is hit the X, C, V, B, or N keys which opens/closes the pause menu. I am unable to select anything--I can only open and close it.

Is this a problem with the key bindings or is it something to do with the OS or something else entirely?
Odd. This game should only work on a Windows PC. It should allow you to use the arrow keys to move around (or the number pad arrow keys) and enter/space for confirm and INS/0/Esc for cancel. Not sure what the issue might be.

Oh, do you have a game pad plugged in? It might be messing with the key bindings - that's been known to happen. Also, try pressing Insert or Home keys - that can sometimes fix key issues. Otherwise also check that sticky keys is off.

If there's still an issue, try another 2k/3 game to see if it's just this particular game or something to do with your computer set up.
Nope, no game pad. Home nor Insert did anything. Sticky keys is off.

I tried a different 2k game (Sunset Over Imdahl) and yea, same issue. Zero clue sadly...
