Part of the RPG Maker Classics Archive: an initiative to upload classic RM games so they are not forgotten.

Developed by: Flare
Date of Release: 2001

Romancing Walker is a romantic RPG that follows the story of Ryle, a young man looking for his purpose. Leaving on a journey of self-discovery, Ryle eventually uncovers not only the secret of his past, but one of world-shattering importance. Joining Ryle in his travels are a bevy of lovely ladies who he may choose to romance and bond with through interactions within the story.

Romancing Walker was made in rm2k and utilizes hand-drawn anime sequences in battle, as well as pictures during important cut-scenes. The biggest draw of the game, however, is the dating simulation which allows you to bond with the other party members. The choices you make during certain scenes will either draw them closer or push them away.

While the game does suffer from 'Engrish' and bad grammar in some parts, it is considered a classic and one of the few games of its time that is complete, with a decent epic tale, interesting characters and interaction between your party. Add in the back-then great graphics in and out of battle and you have a game that is well-remembered as one of the best.

I've never had an issue with this but I know some have. Try right-mouse clicking and choosing Properties, then choose the compatibility tab and change the compatibility to an earlier Windows module. (XP should work, 2000 definitely should)

And remember to download the RTP files for RM2000 and install them too. They also shouldn't be hard to find on the internet via google. Make sure to grab the English ones, though, or the names won't sync up properly. Good luck!
I was able to find RPG Maker 2000, but when I run the file I get an error that says, "Not compatible with operating system", or something along those lines. From my own searches I found that there is a troubleshoot compatibility option when right clicking on the file, but it didn't help my situation.

Do you know how to fix this error? I am running Windows 7 on my laptop.

I played through the scene again. It stops right after Ryle says, "Well that kind of "zap" spell won't take my life away.". Lalyss turns around to face Dierro and nothing happens.

From what I can tell, after that line, Ryle is supposed to move down a tile, and Latyss turns down. The event is supposed to continue after those move-routes are done.

Can you tell me how to take a look at the code of the game? I'm new to RPGmaker in general, but maybe I can find something.

The most efficient way to do it would be to have a copy of the game engine that this game was made in, and open the game in the editor. We are not allowed to give links to RPG Maker 2000, but, you should be able to find something via a Google search.

I figured something like might be caused by an event that is attempting to move, but can't. However, I'm not really seeing how that could be, based on the code of Dierro's event.
I am having a problem with a part of the game. I am at the elf village looking for the metal to upgrade my boat, and talked to the one guy there who actually has useful dialogue (Dierro is his name I think). During the dialogue though, the characters stop talking and everything freezes. There is no battle or ability to move, but the music continues to run.

If anyone can help me resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. I am loving this game so far, and want to continue playing.
I'm glad to hear the project has your approval. I'm currently busy working on the dialogue for a couple of other games, so I'll probably be holding off on Romancing Walker until I can give it the attention it deserves. Once those are out of the way, I'd be happy to get the chance to work on it.
oh forgot to mention midis from JUGON which I could not find good place to use.

Hi,

This is rmxpfan, used to be known as rm2kfanboy.
First of all, I have to thank all those who spend their valuable time to play the game as well as the support for the game for so many years. I was away from the rpgmaker community until 2 years ago when rmvx came out, and bought the rmvx ace on the steam.

Forgot how many years have passed since the Gamingworld and rm2k.net era. Didn't realized the game was still floating around the net until I saw lets play youtube videos.

I came to say hello and just wanted to clear out some points from this board.
1) FLARE, the original author is a guy from japan who made the original With Walker which I shamelessly borrowed from and translated into engrish version.
What I added was more battle animations, Mac'n Blue tilesets, original midi from JUGON and Muumuu san. + 2 songs from Falcom's Legend of Heroes 1 (PC engine).

2) The last time I saw FLARE's website, F-Walker was more than 8 years ago, which was shut down for personal reasons. He was in the middle of development for With Walker 2 which is the prequel starring Flare, Rain, and Flare's mentor, featuring custom made side view battle using rm2k engine. I had the demo version but it was 4 desktops and 2 laptops ago...because of that, I don't think it's a problem for someone to improve the game with better grammer and spellings as long as FLARE gets the credit, in case he claimes in the future.

I'm looking forward to see more excellent rpgmaker projects in the future. Wish ppl support more games like Skyborn at the steam.
I think that it should be a mandatory rule that everybody here should be subscribed to this game.

Unless they’re a hipster, or something. :|

Do you know if the other people whose emails you provided can speak English? I don't have any evidence that Flare does, so it might be better for me to contact someone who can pass along a message.

Not that I know of. You can, however, try your luck with those emails. I tried my luck when I asked the creator of Seraphic Blue in English for permission to translate his game, and thankfully, he replied and spoke decent English :)

EDIT: Here's a better idea: Try emailing the translator of Romancing Walker, rm2kfanboy: rm2kfanboy@sbcglobal.net He just might still have contact with Flare (hopefully).

Is Flare still involved at all with the gamemaker scene? I'd definitely want to get her permission if I'm going to work on the game, but I don't really know how to get in contact with her.

I think it will be difficult, but if you can find the original Japanese version of Romancing Walker, and then try to find her contact from there.

Maybe I can try to find out, since I'm a casual RPG Maker Japanese to English game translator myself.

EDIT: Haha looks like I just found the Japanese version of Romancing Walker!

The Japanese title is actually called "With Walker". Unfortunately, no official site/contact so far...

EDIT2: This is the best I could fins so far with regard to Flare's contact. Unfortunately, since this homepage (in fact, the original homepage for the original Japanese version of Romancing Walker) was created like 13 years ago, it has already gone defunct... http://homepage2.nifty.com/FLAREHP/FLAREHP.htm

EDIT3: Perhaps this is your best bet: cs65126.ppp.infoweb.ne.jp. You had better hope she can speak/read some English if you really want to get in contact with her, though.

If the above email doesn't work, you can try these emails to people who have connections with Flare: iwayoshi@mvc.biglobe.ne.jp or Yoshimura_Jouichi@hotmail.com

If anything, I would love to translate the original Japanese version of Romancing Walker (With Walker), but I still have Seraphic Blue to finish translating first...
Oh man, was this not already on here? This brings me back... hmm, maybe I should try this again and aim for the other endings.
I wonder if Flare is up for Concept Art Commissions?
I like the face set style. It's very classy anime.

I wonder if he/she has a Deviant Art.
It should already be in the folder... did you download a few days ago? The file was updated then, so...

If not, it's easy to find via google search. It's a file that helps with the sound/music I believe.
Can anyone tell me what harmony.dll is? Everytime I try to play the game it says I'm missing that file. Thanks.
No idea but there's bound to be some way to initiate contact. Perhaps look at other places where the game is hosted and see if there's any information there?

Worked for another game which should be added to the site soonish.
