Too hard?

Is this game too hard? I am getting the feeling that it is, but I'm looking for some feedback :(

And is it exactly an hour like I planned?

I didn't have any other testers before release, after all.

I've just beat Cerberus and that puts me at 32 minutes so far. I'm finding the game somewhat challenging but not frustrating. The characters have a good variety of useful moves that keep battles interesting. I'll try to beat the game this evening to give you a full difficultly and time rundown.

I noticed a few small errors. First, I'm not sure if Natalie's Channel ability actually increases BP. It didn't seem to, but I may be mistaken. Also, both her Flame Fist and Freezing Fist claim to do Fire damage in their descriptions. Also, many of the signposts in the game don't seem to be read-able.

You've got a really solid and fun game here so far and I'm interested to see how it ends :D
It's a little rough when you bite off more than you can chew and can't run away, but I didn't have too many problems overall. I did find myself having to return to the inn every couple of fights, until I wised up and bought a bunch of fruit. By the way, oranges don't seem to come up in the "field" items tab; I had to go to "battle" to use those. The other fruits were fine.

My biggest issue was with the optional boss (the hard one). I was at the point where I was ready to finish the game and he was wiping the floor with me. Terence was too slow to heal.

For the sake of longevity, it's usually good to have optional content that you can work towards, but in such a small game I think the idea of grinding for stat ups when you've run out of all other content is unpalatable, even if it's a fairly brief grind. I didn't fancy it, so I left the game incomplete (and the entrance to the final area rubbed my nose in it).

I think being able to willingly initiate encounters after you've run out of battles in the dungeons would make the grind more tolerable. As it is, you have to wander around a very small area waiting for something to attack you.

As far as the optional boss goes, it's possible that I was just unaware of some special strategy, but it didn't really seem like there was a whole lot else I could have done.
Sorry, I pressed quote instead of edit.

Thanks for the feedback!

I fixed the things Unity mentioned and I nerfed the agility of the optional boss so that Terrence can heal before it moves at lower levels. Its agility was 60 and with heavy equipment Terrence really only got that kind of speed at level 19. Some enemies now drop agility buffs too.

I also nerfed the heal slimes; their healing is about 25 percent less effective now. Same goes for the fire slimes and their fire spells. They've gone from about 80 damage to 55-60.

Build 1.2 is live.

I updated to build 1.2 and continued from there. I beat the optional bosses (unless there was more than the second Cerberus fight and the Demon Prince Clone), got all ten not-so-tiny medals (:3) and then beat the main boss, clocking in at an hour and forty minutes on my last save, though I'm also the type of gamer who tries to poke and prod every nook and cranny, so my play time's probably a lot higher than the average player.

Overall I very much liked the game. A nice light story with some great battle mechanics and excellent mapping.

If I had to list shortcomings, I'd say that while Natalie's BP system was really cool, actually accumulating the BP in any manner other than her 100 TP move (Grand Fist, or something similar?) felt like a little bit of a waste, with not nearly the damage payoff for the turn investment in raising the BP. Also the Yaoi was a bit weak in my opinion, especially since we don't get Noah, the second half of the main pairing, until half of the game is already over.

These are ultimately minor nitpicks, though, and I want to say again that I found this very solid and really enjoyed playing it. Thanks for the great game :D

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, Natalie needs another way to accumulate BP; Charge is great if you cast provoke on her, but other than that, Channel isn't particularly great. I should have made Channel a steal ability or something - an ability that accumulates 1 BP, does light damage, and allows you to steal an item. That was kind of the original idea but I got lazy (err ran out of time).

Totally understand the weak yaoi due to Noah being so late in the game and because I haven't even written a straight romance before XD

Yeah, Steal would have worked there, but like I said, still a great game and quite an accomplishment for just a week's work :D

Also romance is the hardest thing to write believably, in my opinion XD
