Have you ever wondered what the RM heroes do in their down-time?

Like any of us, I'm sure they just want to kick back and relax with a good book and a cold drink. And with all the questing, adventuring, dragon-slaying, monster-battling, damsel-saving antics that they put up with, who could blame them?

Unfortunately for Eric, things don't quite go according to plan on this particular vacation.

The story:

Eric, looking forward to finally getting a good night's sleep away from the hustle and bustle of daily life as a hero, instead manages to stumble upon yet another intricate plot to destroy the world. Or possibly enslave humankind. Or something nefarious, anyway. Vacation or no vacation, the world isn't about to save itself.

The team:

Me (DuncanS) - programming, mapping, sprites, writing
Taka (AKA. kindcoffee) - artwork, mapping, sprites

Features:

After thinking about thatbennyguy's suggestion for a bit, I wrote an extension for Yanfly's Menu Engine to allow the player to set the encounter rate (based on the base of 8 steps on average per encounter) right from the menu! Just put in a percentage from 0-999% and your encounter rate will be immediately updated.

Thanks to thatbennyguy for the suggestion ^^!

Edit: For those of you who encountered an issue with the dialogue boxes not appearing, it is now fixed :S. It was due to a variable conflict with Yanfly's Message system TT.

Bug fixes and a small update!

Thanks to help from Makio-Kuta and Racheal, the issue a couple of people mentioned where the game would crash randomly is now fixed ^^!

Let me know if you encounter any issues with the new version!

Thank you, and sorry to anyone who ran into this error when they played TT.

Looks nice it for real out tomorrow?
Should be, it's for the RM Venture contest so it's going to be under an hour of gameplay ^^.

Looks cute! I'll try it when you release it ~
Brilliantly funny with nice polish. The sideview battle system is a bit slow with the animations, though. And 8 steps for random encounters? Seriously? Way too many. I'd make it 16, more like.

Also, there is one fatal flaw: the track for "Swamp Resort 2" is missing. So you might want to fix that bug for the contest.

But other than that it is hilarious, with a nice ending and clever dialogue throughout.
Oh wow :S thanks for the feedback! I removed a bunch of BGM tracks to shrink the upload size - forgot that I was using that one TT...

The 8 steps for random encounters is, I agree, too often, but I felt that it would be better to get the grindy aspect of the game out of the way along the way rather than having to backtrack if you have a hard time on the boss. I guess maybe it needs some more balancing ^^;

Agreed that sideview is slow, but I like having more variety in battles - so much time in RPGs is spent in random encounters that I like them to look polished even if it slows the pace a bit.

Edit: A new version with the missing track is being uploaded now ;n; sorry

Edit 2: Updated the download once again to include an encounter rate modifier so you can decide how often to have encounters!
This thing was funny as hell...ahahahah
Good job man.
Hope you will create a sequel one day (and post it on rpgmakerweb too!) it's one of the funniest games I've ever played.
Thank you so much! *^*

I'll definitely think about a sequel; I'll need some time to recover from RM Venture (~ Z___Z)~ *reaches for coffee*

I plan to put it on rpgmakerweb once the RM Venture contest results are in, and after a bit more balancing and so forth ^^.

If I do end up making a sequel, I'll be sure to let you know!

I love the story and the amazing dialogues, characters make me feel like I'm watching an amazing anime series!

I DO ALL THE EVILINGS ALL DAY!!!!

PS: I literally did almost nothing on this, Duncan is like my hero, basically; God? yeah Praise Duncan *bows*
Most of the time when I set an encounter rate either before or after the next fight, the game crashes. Also I am having trouble moving those damn boulders. Aggravating.
Interesting, I'll look into that. Yeah, some of the boulders are hidden, but there are two ways of getting to the exit ^^.

Edit: I've been testing, and haven't been able to reproduce a crash when changing the encounter rate - can you send me a screenshot of/steps to reproduce the error if it happens again? Also, let me know if you need help with the boulder puzzle ^^.
@Roy -
Spoilers for the puzzle:
Move the closest boulder to the entrance right, then the next one (below it and to the right) one square to the right. Go around and move it back to the left, then push the boulder above where it was up, the boulder to the right of that boulder to the right, the boulder below that one down, and the boulder to the right of that one two squares to the right. If that's hard to follow, let me know and I'll provide some screenshots ^^.
DS RPG. Decent writing, but it was extremely short. Project file appears to be available. Not bad.
