Razed are the Powerful

Razed Are Powerful is a game that I've been meaning to play for the longest time now. As Acts of Random Kindness Day came up, I decided to play and review this game. It is made by Gourd Clae, and awesome guy who has been really fun to work with for a McBacon Jam game. He likes to call this game a mess and says it's pretty bad, but it's quite the opposite: It's an awesome little game with a neat concept!

You start the game without any idea as to what is going on. This feels a bit rough at first, but you do learn what is going on after a few minutes. You are Ulrika, a woman who has a passion(obsession even)for fighting, so much so that she can't live without it! However, this worries her husband('s epic beard), who wants Ulrika to stay home instead because he is worried she will hurt herself, leading to Ulrika having to sneak out every night.



Ulrika has some sort of sickness. However, she does not know what her sickness is. She will have random strokes of pain, causing others to worry about her well being.


The dialogue is extremely well written with a lot of jokes and gags. The silliness of it really adds a charm to the game, and makes all the characters quite likeable, even the silent ones! I think the game handled characters extremely well.



Another extremely good thing about the game is it's graphics. The graphics are made my Minnow, who did an excellent job. The maps are very atmospheric and beautiful. The colors are so vivid and really capture the mood well.



There are a few issues however. For example, the game has several times where it has a clash of 2x2 and 1x1 pixels. The most noticeable time this happens is towards the end. It is extremely easy to tell that ''putting hands on chest'' pose has a lot of 1x1 pixels. While it doesn't happen too many times, it does sometimes break the immersion of the art. The font and UI look out of place as they are the only non-pixellated things. There is also a lack of battle animations, which can make it a little hard to tell what is going on in the battles.



Sound wise, I was also pretty impressed. The music is very nice, and once again, fits the mood really well. The final battle music was a little meh as it felt very short and repetitive.
The game is very battle based, so it's a pretty good thing that there are a lot of unique skills and states.
The battles start off a bit slowly, but eventually they start to get better. After a while, they DO start to get really easy though. In fact, the only two times I died in the game were because I did not have the Addle Animal skill. It became so easy that I could win battles without even getting to the ''caution!'' stage(which happens if you drop to low hp, which I believe is 8 hp or so).



For a battle based game, the battles are surprisingly ok. It does have it flaws, but the unique little skills and states are a nice change of pace from the usual stuff.



Overall, I think Razed Are Powerful is a very fun little experience. It does have a few bugs, like this one.

It's a bit annoying that you can't interact with people from all directions. The game does make fun of this several times, and that was pretty cool, but I think it would be better if they got rid of this feature. You can also enter a few places without actually entering them(I know that sentence makes no sense). For example, you can enter the locker room just by going left towards it. So you don't actually interact with the door at all, but you still somehow go inside.

That being said, Razed Are Powerful was still a really fun experience with a few flaws. However, it does not have naked Eric so I must give it a 0/10.

Or four cute guys out of five, that works too.
