So. Much. Potential. So Buggy :'(.

This game was immediately set apart as different from all the other entries I've played so far. First of all, you seem to have hand-sketched little original sprites for everybody. That got a little bit of my attention right away, and then I became excited when I noticed that you'd decided to follow in the footsteps of SMT, rather than final fantasy. But then I had to fix a bug with the Colossus and I started to get frustrated from that point.

Story - A bunch of different heroes across different dimensions wake up dazed and confused in a mysterious cave somewhere, with bizarre monsters and humanoid-type creatures that, while not exactly friendly, seem to be guiding them on their journey. The heroes are thrown together by circumstance, there's a big twist, then another twist, then let's get on with it and kill the true final boss. It felt a bit like Project X Zone for those that have played that. I was led along well enough, waiting and waiting for all these potentially interesting hooks to lead to something, and then I got nothing. Was there supposed to be an ending? Or was it a bug? Why did I get caught in an endless loop of fighting the final battles with repeated dialogue? Was I supposed to lose? I DID THAT ONCE AND NOTHING DIFFERENT HAPPENED. Massively frustrated because I hate when I have to bail on a story right before the end.

Gameplay - Visual novel style; not a bad choice for an hour long game. Since you clearly focused on the battles, no problems there. I loved the battle system. SMT meets Final Fantasy XIII. I feel as though you created something greater than the sum of its parts with that. The equipment system was weird, and it was virtually impossible to create a setup that didn't rely at least partially on luck (thanks to certain bosses spamming ALL the elements), but it definitely worked for me and provided that addictive menu customization that many RPG gamers love, despite the visual novel setup.

HOWEVER: game-breaking bugs. Unacceptable :(. Wall glitches and grammar errors and the occasional endlessly respawning treasure chest are OK, but there should never be a bug that prevents the player from finishing the game in a final release. I had to remove the "resist dead" thing from the Colossus or he was completely unkillable and would freeze as soon as the game got to his turn. I think you may have made him invincible instead of resistant to insta-kills, and the game didn't no what to do because he was locked in the "I can't be dead but my HP is zero" loop. Just a guess. Also the final boss battle against the Demon God sprite (Demon Arbiter I think you called him?) endlessly loops back to the start. Forever. The game has no ending or credits :(. At the very least a "Yay you saved everyone" would have been appreciated so I didn't fight the final boss like 3 times trying to see if it was intentional.

Graphics/Sound/Atmosphere - you did the visual novel thing well, and the actor sprites were cute for the lack of a better word. The music was well selected, the ominous "I seem to be completely lost in a dangerous place" feeling was definitely pulled off.

FINAL VERDICT - 2.5/5 stars. Would have been 4/5 if the game had an acceptable ending and hadn't been broken in the middle. A fantastic battle system, good atmosphere, and an acceptable story up until the part where it didn't have an ending.

Yes ;w;

It was pretty much a rush to the contest deadline, and I have to admit I didn't playtest it at all! I'm glad that you enjoyed the beginning though, and the battle system as well.

In any case, thanks for playing and reviewing!
