Part of the RPG Maker Classics Archive: an initiative to upload classic RM games so they are not forgotten.

Developed by: Karl-Martin Hogsnes
Date of Release: 2004-2006/2010

Clouded Heart is a plot- and character-heavy RPG that follows the story of Marth and Kathrin as they are sent tumbling into a world of lies, deceit and secrets. They must learn to rely on each other and their new-found friends if they are to survive and grow as people.

Clouded Heart was made in RM2k and utilizes hand-drawn anime-esque portraits. The biggest draw of the game is the great plot and characterisation of each of the main characters, as well as the well-connected world around them and the written elements of the game itself. There are issues with some grammar and spelling but for the most part the written portions of the game are very well done and certain scenes stick in the memory for quite a while.

Where the game does falter is the graphical components. Mapping is, in a word, quite lacklustre, but considering the era in which the game was initially completed, it's understandable as to why this is the case. Battles, too, are quite easy on the player but this is not necessarily a bad thing, as it allows easy access to the story beyond.

A classic tale that delves into relationships, learning to trust and the pain of loneliness without preaching to the audience, Clouded Heart has a lot to offer those who can look past the graphical issues and enjoy the game for what it is - a story of a boy and girl learning how to reach out to those around them for the support to stand up to the challenges ahead. Also, pretty neat plot twists.

Maybe, but in this case the game has been uploaded to the site to keep it 'somewhere' because it's a classic and the creator is no longer in the RM community. Thus, it's okay to do a walkthrough of it. No-one is going to say no to it and if they do, refer 'em to me. ;p More than likely they're being asses/joking (because the creator really won't mind.)

Oh I didn't know that. Thanks :D

You don't really have to ask to do walkthroughs or LPs, Serenity. ^.^ People appreciate them (and in this case I'm 100% sure it's A-Okay~)

Better be safe than sorry xD.

Sounds promising. I will add it to my game list. Do I have your permission to do a voiceless walkthrough on the game in the future?
You only have one chance to find Volume 1 and 2 of the books. Near the beginning of the game right after the prologue when you get control of Marth as an adult, before you run out of the village to meet up with the girl and take on those caves, you'll see a red indicator on his bookshelf where the volumes are.

Once you meet up with the girl and enter the caves, it'll be too late to get them and you won't have the chance later.
Just finished the game.
Very nice job.
Lots of surprises.
Never found Volume 1 or 2 of the books
Only thing I really noticed was
the crystal ring didn't seem to improve
my attack power at all, although the stats read higher.
Game is on my "best" list.
Thanks for the game!

Oh wow this game, quite old. I've only ever played it once a long time ago, don't remember much.
I love how the main characters are named after the developer.

This game inspired me to get into mapping and, despite its emo nature, carries with it a strong story of survival and duality, hence why I hold it in such high regard as, without it, I may very well still be a novice mapper. I do, however, enjoy version 3 over 4 as I found the character portraits distracting and took away from the scenes as they took up too much screen real-estate and hadn't even the slightest bit of transparency to allow the player to view Edge creeping up on the heroes in that forest scene, among other things I'm sure.

Also, the characters attack animations and the use of the RM2k3 RTP graphics instead of the 2k really add a special flavor to this game.
I might try this out later. It looks pretty good.
One of my favourite RM games. Yes, the maps are... pretty ugh at times but the story and characters make this game worth playing.

Edit: Just uploaded the first of four media pages of my 13 hour, one sitting LP of this game. Woo~
